My wife and I just returned from a weekend getaway at this wonderful little cottage. The pictures don't do it justice. Our only regret was that we were only there two nights. The view off of the back porches was fantastic and there was lots of shade and nice patio furniture to provide a relaxing spot to enjoy that view. The house was appointed with comfy furniture and a well-stocked kitchen and we found everything to be in working order. As an avid fisherman, we spent Saturday morning with a guide catching far too many white bass to count (but only keeping as many as we were entitled to of course). Saturday evening I wandered down from the house to try my luck along the shore. The lake is currently about 8 ft low and getting down to the waterfront was a bit of an adventure for a "jolly" 41 y.o., but I made it without feeling too endangered. The fishing from the shore was pretty good too as I managed to hookup several white bass, a catfish and a largemouth. This was our first trip to Lake Whitney and we certainly hope to be back and this will certainly be our first choice of places to stay if we do. If you're lucky enough to visit Lake Whitney, we highly recommend Texas Great Cafe and Pie Pantry in Whitney. Take your Crestor and plan for a nap afterwards.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: This a great place to relax. Quiet neighborhood. Close to water. Thsi home can be enoyed year round. Good fishing location.

My husband and I brought my aunt and our 3 small children with us when we came out to Lake Whitney this time. The kids had a lot of fun in the yard and we used the fun chimnea because we had some cold nights. The owners were so nice and very helpful when we needed to call them for things. We really enjoyed to overall experience and would recommend this lake house to anyone going out for a vacation at Lake Whitney.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Lakeside Cottage is a great year round place to stay on Lake Whitney. You can still enjoy the lake view while keeping warm either by chimnea out on patio or cozy gas log fireplace inside.

The listing description is accurate regarding location. || The listing photos accurately reflect the rental's appearance and amenities. || The property was clean and well-maintained. || The owner was helpful in answering my questions or concerns. || I would recommend this property to a friend or relative. || I don't know what nearby activities, attractions, or restaurants to recommend. We had some trouble getting the door open upon a very late arrival (after 12 am) but the owners called back right away and walked us through the trick. Disaster quickly averted. We actually had pretty bad weather during our trip and yet enjoyed a wonderful stay. :-) Thanks again for a great weekend!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: When it's not raining of course there are plenty of water & outdoor activities. But rain or shine your sure to enjoy the covered upstairs deck with a great lake view. Inside you can still enjoy a view of the lake while sitting around the cozy gas log fireplace. Whitney, Clifton and Meridian offer great shops for antiquing, retail shops, restaurants, museums. There is an Outlet Mall in Hillsboro as well. Waco has all of the above and more.

4 friends and I spent the weekend here, and found it perfect for our needs. The view was beautiful, the porch and deck were perfect for cozy conversations, and the rooms were well-kept and nicely appointed. We loved the open kitchen-living room-dining room space, and comfortably spent time there by the huge back windows, watching a storm roll in over the lake. The owner responded quickly to e-mailed questions, and made sure I had her cell number for emergencies. The lake is low right now, making it difficult to ease in to the lake from the rock drop-off, but it was a 10-minute drive to the opposite side of the lake, where there was swimming and folk were jumping in from low cliffs.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The house itself was beautiful, very clean and had all the comforts of home. We had storms blow through while we were there and spent the afternoon on the porch enjoying the mist and breezes off the lake. Fans on the porch would be a nice improvement, but that's really the only complaint we had! For potential light sleepers, there is no carpet in the whole house, so sound travels quite clearly throughout, no matter what room you're in. The lake must be low this year because we had to climb down rocks to actually get to the water. We decided to visit a swimming area a short drive from the house instead. Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend the house for anyone who just wants to get away from the city.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and hope you plan on a visit again soon. We may need to think about adding fans to that back porch, that would be a nice addition, thanks for the suggestion. Depending on the water level of the lake, it is about a foot below right now, it may take a little more effort to reach the water. The steps that are there are helpful but being a corp of engineer lake we are not allowed to do any modifications. They want to preserve the natural beauty of the lake. We are forunate to have access at all since the lake is surrounded by high bluffs. Ours is one of the few homes that do have such access. I'm glad you discovered the swim area by the dam, there is a playground there as well.

We found Lakeside Cottage to be a nice place to stay. The view of the lake from the back decks is great and it's a quiet area. Lake Whitney is off the beaten path, so this is definitely a place to consider if you want a peaceful retreat. The cottage is small and clean and has been recently updated. It's well maintained. I recommend this place, but unless the owner updates the towels and washcloths, I suggest you bring your own.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Lake Whitney is a well kept secret. The lake is seldom crowded, great place to enjoy all water sports and fishing. We're glad you loved our cabin and we will be replacing the towels & wash cloths soon. Thank you for calling this to our attention. We hope you will visit again soon.

The Lakeside Cottage was a wonderful vacation property. The property is nestled in a quiet neighborhood with plenty of privacy. I'm in my 50's and not in perfect shape but the top and bottom decks provided perfect areas to relax and observe the water, birds & critters. The walk down to the lake cliff is a gentle slope. The only thing that was a challenge for me (remember 50 and chubby) was getting down to the waters edge . . . but with practice and a husband installed rope to help with getting out of the water it was conquered and the water was a JOY. We anchored the kayaks in the little cove and enjoyed a couple of paddles up and down the lakeside. We adventured out to the little island but you have to watch the wind strength when paddling that far out in the open. From the fishermen's point of view we did not have much luck .... you would probably need to hire a guide to "learn" the lake's secret fishing holes. We made a trip into Whitney for groceries and wandered through a couple of the antique shops for fun and eveyone was friendly. We also tried 2 of the local restaurants ... Country Cafe and Bosque Resort restaurant both were good. If you have youth on your side there was lots of jet ski action and tube towing on the lake without it being over crowded. If you have young children you would have to be aware of safety around cliffs and deep waters. Hopefully this gives someone a good idea of what it is like. We couldn't ask for any more in house amenities...comfortable, very clean and the views were picturesque. Sandra you gave us plenty of privacy and were available if we needed anything! It was a VERY enjoyable vacation and it was hard to leave.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: My husband and I do our best to make our home comfortable and clean. Lake Whitney is a large and very scenic lake with the cliffs and clear water. The lake is perfect for all water sports and fishing, never over crowded. The neighborhood is a great place to go for a walk or bike ride. There are many trails around the waters edge that are great for walking too. We appreciate the feed back and appreciate our guests.

About the owner: My husband and I have been married for 34 years. We commute from our office in Midlothian to our home at Lake Whitney each day. We have one son, a daughter-in-law and an adorable & active 4 yr. old grandson. We enjoy boating on Lake Whitney with our family & friends every chance we get.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Whitney:
We have been coming to Lake Whitney and Laguna Park in particular since the mid 1970's. My husband use to ride motocross in Whitney and we enjoyed staying at the state park and lodges in the area. After we married and had our son we enjoyed coming here to fish and go boating. We purchased a cabin and became 'weekenders' for awhile. We finally had the opportunity to move here full time in 2003. We love the scenic beauty of the area. The lake is clear and clean. It's a great lake for water sports and fishing. The lifestyle here is relaxed and laid back. The people are friendly. It's near Whitney, Hillsboro and Waco. And just a little over an hour to downtown Dallas. We purchased this home because it's so cozy, comfortable, with beautiful lake views and lake access. It's just a few blocks from our home. A great place for family and friends to stay when we have a crowd or if they need a place to go to relax and getaway.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Lakeside Cottage is a cozy home in a quiet neighborhood. It backs up to Lake Whitney and is shady, private and peaceful. Gorgeous lake view's from most every room. You'll want to spend your time on the upper or lower deck watching the boats pass by. You can walk from the back yard down to the lake for a swim or great fishing. Watching the birds, squirrels, & raccoons is great entertainment. The night sky is wonderful for star gazing. It's close to nearby boat ramps and Uncle Gus Marina.
