Wake to the haunting cry of a loon. Watch the sunrise over the morning mist while you take your coffee on our deck overlooking Castine harbor.Catch a glimpse of seals or a working lobster boat. At night, the moonrise over the still water is truly magical. Or take your kayak around the corner to the phosphorescent waters in Hatch cove. Go biking, hike in nearby Witherle Woods or just walk the short half mile into town. Too much activity? Grab a book and veg out in one of our colorful Adirondack chairs. Our private, newly renovated cottage is yours to enjoy.
Cottage is on a private road 1/2 mile from town center and is located on 1.5 acre property next to the owner's home. Note to parents of young children: there is a small unfenced pond on the property. This has not been a problem with the many young families that have stayed here. Note that the bedrooms are upstairs in the cottage. Minimum stay one week

We recently spent 3-1/2 days in this wonderful cottage overlooking the mouth of the Bagaduce river, and it was exceptional! We had two small children with us, a 3-year old and a 10-month old and the cottage suited all of us perfectly. The two bedrooms upstairs provided plenty of space for all of us to sleep. The balcony provided a peaceful space to sit and watch the activity on the water while the kids napped. The kitchen was well-stocked with all of the appurtenances of modern living (microwave, fridge, range) as well as dishes and silverware and other items for preparing meals. There was a washer and dryer in the cottage so that we could do laundry, particularly useful with small kids. The living area was comfortable and stocked with books, games, and maps of the local area. The cottage and surroundeds were extremely well-maintained, and it was obvious that a great deal of thought went into anticipating tenants needs. There is, for instance, wireless Internet access. But there are also more subtle features like binoculars for bird-watching, or books on local attractions. It is a short walk to the downtown area, where you can get some excellent soft-serve ice cream at the Breeze (I liked the Moose Tracks). Overall, this cottage exceeded our expectations and made for an absolutely enjoyable stay in Castine.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Dear Bob and Sam, I enjoyed my stay in your lovely cottage and the idyllic water location in my favorite Maine village. You did a wonderful job in making the cottage feel like a cozy home away from home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a great retreat & we loved the second floor balcony under the red oak tree. We heard the waves lapping all night, saw a solitary seal, goldfinches & lots of seagulls. Thanks also for a varied library.......Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Very nice cottage. Pat loves to cook and she appreciated having everything she needed from cooking gear to olive oil. We loved the architecture in castine and the history of this strategic location. Overlooking the bay, sitting in the Adirondack chairs with a glass of wine can't be beat.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
