“The Blue House” is a unique roatan rental home statuesquely poised on the Ironshore, just 60 feet from the waters edge. The smoke-free house rises three stories into the sky topped off with a widow’s walk for spectacular 180 degree views of the south shore of Roatan, the mainland of Honduras and the ocean and the reef below. SEE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE PHOTOS AND INFO.
The Bay Islands, of which Roatan is the largest, is part of the Bonacca Ridge which is a submerged mountain range. The tops of the mountains form the islands which are surrounded by the world’s second largest barrier reef.
The diving is spectacular. It has been estimated that 90% of all the marine life in the Caribbean can be found in Roatan. Roatan also lies on the edge of the Cayman Trench, which offers superb vertical drop-offs of over 300 meters.
The fringing reef around Roatan boasts a coral wall that extends almost from the surface to a depth of 35-50 meters. The visibility is often in excess of 30 meters which offers endless possibilities from observing deep water fish to the diverse reef ecosystem on the same dive.
The reef structure provides swim-through channels and small cave systems as well as spur and groove reef with sand patches. Rays, turtles, dolphins and the occasional shark are not unusual sightings in these waters. There are also a multitude of small reef findings that are revealed to those who are patient. There are numerous dive shops in West End and the diving prices are very reasonable.
Once you have equipment, you can either utilize one of the many dive boats on Roatan or you can dive right off the shore in front of the Blue House house. The reef is accessible and the wall drops off less than 100 yards from shore.
The almost constant breezes from the trade winds keep you cool and comfortable. On a clear day you have a view of the rugged mountains of mainland Honduras from the vantage point of the widows walk or from the second level deck. You can also watch the cruise ships come into the port of Coxen Hole. In this island retreat if you would like a little less strenuous activity you can wake to a perfect sunrise and the sound of birds singing, pass the time reading a book or watching the humming birds, and at night be lulled to sleep by the breaking waves against the Ironshore.
The house has air conditioning in both bedrooms for maximum comfort and there are numerous ceiling fans throughout the house to circulate the fresh air from the trade winds.
The white sandy beaches of West Bay have been voted amongst the Top Ten in the Caribbean, and they are less than two and a half miles away from the Blue House.
You can hike trails along the coastline, some of which are accessible right from the house. You can also enjoy a hike through the rainforest accessible from a number of locations around the island.
“The Blue House” vacation rental is located at the west end of Flower’s Bay, away from any hustle and bustle of the small village, yet within walking distance.
Its location is somewhat remote in that sense, but the friendly people of Flower’s Bay are near by. A RENTAL CAR is usefull and available thru a few agencies, including Avis. There is taxi service as well on the Island but that is seldom as easy as having your own car any time parked under the car-port. The house is about two miles from West Bay beach or West End where there is a lot going on – shops, restaurants, bars, night life, numerous dive shops, tourist activity, a car rental agency, grocery store, Internet Café, coffee shops, an Eco Tourism office, scooter and kayak rentals, a submarine ride and most anything else you will need while on the island.
The blue house vacation rental is a short drive or taxi ride from Coxen Hole which is one of the larger towns on the island and has two well stocked grocery stores..

We arrived just after Christmas and in a matter of minutes it seemed we were welcomed to the community. Tanesha met us and once at the home Jose ws very helpful with luggage and groceries. This is a local friendly community and it seems the owners of the home have done a lot to help as well as partake in the local culture. We saw so many happy children during our week stay, I think part of that was the recent Christmas Party and some thought the owners were still here, Not a problem but it was different for us to be so welcomed. OK, Enough of the mushy stuff, The house is truly spectacular but you will get a workout as well as it is as tll as it looks in the picturs and there is no elevator, There are decks high and low and there is always at least one in the shade and when the sun is out there is always a place for that if you like. We snorkelled right at the house and also went to a small beach down the road that e had to ourselves, During this trip I drank coconut water from a fresh coconut, ate a rambutan, hiked trails among cahoon palms, snorkeled with a bazillion critters, and truly enjoyed the stay The House has a kitchen that has anything you would ever need and lots you will scratch your head thinking why do they have this and i do not. Bayhrooms are clean, there re three, one in each bedroom and a half upstairs, One bedroom has a tub as well if that is needed. There is gas BBQ grill for use as well. This place is NOT for the Cancun, Dominican AI folks, I know it sounds weird but the fondest memories have little to do with the actual home or Roatan but more with how welcomed we felt when we arrived and during our stay, To have someone drop off fresh bananas or avacados because they thought we may like them was unheard of, Many of these folks have so little but want to share with us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at the Blue House. The home and the people of Flowers Bay have a very specil place in our hearts and we are pleased to be able to share them . Thank you

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: We are Karla and Eric and are from Canada and Connecticut respectively. We met many moons ago through our diving and have had many travel adventures. We have our home in Jacksonville Florida as well as our homes in Roatan.
Why the Owner Chose Flowers Bay:
We actually never intended on this being a Vacation rental. We bought the Blue House because we loved the house and the area and thought it would be a great home to visit now and at least semi retire there in the future. We already lived in Florida so the resort touristy areas were not what we wanted. We chose Roatan because it is relatively easy to get to and at the time the costs were extremely reasonable. We chose Flowers Bay mainly because thats where the house was. While the touristy resort areas may be more profitable, that is not what why we bought the home. this truly is a second home and not just a vacation rental We were looking for a place we actually would like to live that was local and that is what we found.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love that our home is a pretty private setting with some very good friends nearby and only a few minutes drive from the most popular tourist areas. When the seas are calm we can snorkel and or dive from our steps, when they are rough we can walk to the beach or just hop in the little natural pool.
We have some Hiking trails on our property across the road which depending on the season may provide different fruits such as mango, cashew, bananas, mamay, avacado and more. Often the local fisherman will stop by selling their fresh catch and if not we can walk two minutes to a little place down the road to grab a bite to eat.
The house is one of the tallest on Roatan and while forgetting your keys upstairs can be a chore it is nice that even on the calmest days there is almost always a breeze un the upper levels.
