Playing Hooky is the perfect place to steal away from the daily grind. Transport back to childhood when the thrill of getting away from your responsibilities could be as simple as ‘playing hooky’. Feel your shoulders drop as soon as you leave the hard road to travel 3 short miles next to the push and pull of the gorgeous, blue ocean. Turn in at mile post 16, for Swan Beach, an area of beautiful, upscale ‘cottages’. Playing Hooky boasts all of the amenities you can think of, for the relaxation and enjoyment of young and old alike. The game room, with living room area is located on the entry level, and has a pool table, kitchenette, flat screen tv with receiver, blu-ray player and Bose speaker surround sound, pub table and chairs, full bath and a large, comfortable seating area for entertaining. This room engages everyone as the place to play, but can also be used as a second living room. Outside is the LARGE pool with picnic table and zero gravity chaise lounge chairs as well as a cabana bath and outside shower. Moving up one flight to the second floor you will find the laundry, and three bedrooms. One is a king master with New Memory Foam/aloe vera infused mattress, another is a king with shared bath and again a new Memory Foam/aloe vera infused mattress and the last is a double duo-bunk room. Duo-bunks have a double lower bunk bed with a single upper bunk. The king bedrooms are equipped with every comfort as well as wall mounted Directvs. The double bunk room has a Directv set up with a PS2 game console. Step outside for the cool ocean breeze or to get to the screened porch, which overlooks the pool and has a 6 person hot tub and card table. Sip a frosty beverage while watching the spectacular evening sky, or watch the children swimming in the pool below. The hot tub's location in the screened porch means no annoyance from flying pests while you soak. Begin unwinding as soon as you top the stairs of the upper level. The lovely sofas and stylish furniture, half bath and comfortable spaces are outdone only by the stunning ocean views. The fourth bedroom, a queen master with New Memory Foam mattress w/ 100% Cotton Cover and private bath is also located on this level. Just past the island with seating for three, is the well equipped kitchen, with everything you will need to create a delicious meal. Every requirement has been filled, with an abundance of implements, tools and kitchen equipment including new ceramic knives. Nice quality flatware and place settings will create a beautiful table for 12. Through the dining area is the bright and inviting sun-room equipped with card table and upholstered chaise for your lounging pleasure. Step through the sun-room to the west onto a wonderful sun deck with Amazing views of the Currituck Sound. Step through the sun-room to the east for spectacular ocean views and decking with picnic table, outdoor seating and access to another level of decking above, the crow’s nest deck located on the roof. Take your favorite cool beverages to the crow’s nest and let all your cares blow away as you enjoy the spectacular sunsets from the built in seating. Look to the south for a view of the Currituck Lighthouse beacon and the Fourth of July fireworks at Heritage Park. Our families had one of the best vacations ever "playing hooky" at the Outer Banks in Carova. The home met all of our needs and wants. The pics and descriptions are accurate. Our teenage girls were "so happy" during our stay. We did a little sight seeing in Carova and Duck, but anxious to get back to the house each time. We saw the wild mustangs around the house all but one day of our stay. The deer were around each morning and a fox trotted through a couple of evenings. The hot tub and pool table were put to good use after adventuresome drives and shell collecting. David and Laura have thought of everything you would need while away from home. They were only a phone call away if a question arose. Words of advice: make a shopping list so you don't forget anything, arrive while there is still daylight, and lower your tires' the air pressure. Also Wink's, the last convience store before the 4x4 area, has decent gas prices and the cheapest air to air back up the tires.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Playing Hooky is a great property. My family has stayed at that house every summer since it was built in 2001. It is in a great location - you will see the wild horses every morning and evening. The pool is huge compared to the pools at the surrounding homes and the jacuzzi is in the screened in porch which makes it great to use at all times of the day. You will likely need to drive your SUV to the beach though - it is a bit of a walk dragging beach gear. If this is your first time to the 4WD section - there are no "roads" - just paths made in the sand. You should take your tire pressure down to the suggested rate and try and stay close to the waters edge when driviing (be careful bc you will be driving through people on the beach - there is a speed limit of 15 mph). Also be careful of puddles - they can be much deeper than they appear. Try and drive around when possible. This house has provided a ton of great memories for my family. We personally have been renting Playing Hooky for 10 years now. We just love it! The home is in good condition and the amenities are excellent. There is nothing to want with this home! Kitchen is fully stocked, great books and games, and the pool is wonderful. There is also a hot tub in the screened porch area. The crow's nest is our favorite. After a wonderful day at the beach and pool, we love going up to the Crow's nest to savor the breeze and take in that million dollar view. You couldn't ask for nicer managing agents who are attentive to your needs. They are great! We actually just booked for our 11th year at Playing Hooky. We thoroughly enjoyed all the comforts of this rental. Couldn't have asked for a better house in the 4WD area. They owners have really thought of everything we could need to have a stress free relaxing vacation. We just got back on Sept. 18th 2011 and we had an awesome time!! The pool and the hot tub are great amenities and it has a perfect location! I would recommend this house to anybody!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This place is great for a family vacation. The very top deck on this house provided the best views EVER. The owners have definitely thought about what we would like to have available at our fingertips while on vacation, for example, the pool table, the swimming pool, the hot tub, the games and puzzles. LOVED IT. Can't wait to go back this summer.....thankfully I already have my reservation. See you on the beach!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
