                      • The Campbell House is a restored Colony House from 1935, located in the heartland of Palmer, in the shadows of magnificent Pioneer Peak and surrounding farmlands. Palmer is a historic town which grew rapidly when the New Deal Act of 1935 was put into action by President Roosevelt. Colonists from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin were selected to move to Alaska to develop the land thru farming and related industry. The Colonists lived in a Tent City until the lottery drawing took place that determined their homesites. George and Onabel Campbell from Mio, Michigan drew Quarter 54 in the lottery drawing and were assigned the property that the Campbell House is on. Also still standing is the original chicken brooder. Palmer town square has many historic buildings and monuments teaching about this time in our history....moreless

My husband and I went to visit our son in Anchorage, and we stayed in this Charming, clean, easy access to the freeway agricultural town. We had breakfast at the Noisy Goose(very good and great warm service) The listing falls short of how charming, practical, clean, quiet this 3 bedroom home was. We were very pleased with it. I would recommend this place to others visiting Alaska. We were there a week and managed to hike, visit Denali by Air Taxi, walked everywhere, and come back and relax in our clean charming quiet little house. Our nice stayed with us two nights --from Seattle-- she loved it. And our son and his girlfriend also stayed a couple of nights and we cooked, relax, and dined in such peace and quiet. They loved the place as well. Thank you Sheri, and when we are back, we will most certainly look your place up again.

Campbell House is a beautifully renovated, cozy cabin, perfect for travelers looking for all the comforts of home while traveling. The kitchen is fully stocked with all utensils needed to make a home cooked meal, the living room is ideal for family game nights or gathering around for movie night, the beds are comfortable and the room sizes are ample enough for each family member to have space to relax. The setting could not be more ideal with the picturesque mountain view out every window and close enough to Palmer to feel not completely isolate. A very wonderful and memorable stay is in store for all visitors to Campbell House

We found Sherri to be extremely helpful and kind. The Campbell House is fully equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and laundry area!! Traveling with a young infant we needed a clean and well kept living area- this was it. And we cannot say enough about the proximity to Palmer and Wasilla and beyond! Getting to a store or doing a little shopping was only a few minutes away!

We spent a week on work and vacation in June '13. Could have stayed in a hotel - two rooms at $250/night each? Opted for the Campbell house -- close enough to Anchorage and very central to all the places we wanted to visit. The owners? Could have not been more helpful, friendly and they keep a VERY tidy place. Palmer has a lot to offer; stores, restaurants, diversions - we lucked out and were there for Colony Days... As with the other reviews, we couldn't be happier nor could we oversell how much we enjoyed the secluded nature of this place. Might not be for the "night-life" types, but we couldn't have picked a better place.

My two sisters and I stayed at the Campbell House while visiting our elderly parents. We were greeted by a lovely array of Breakfast goodies. The house was very clean and attractive and well equipped with all new appliances. We each had a bedroom and the great room was large enough to entertain family for dinner. Our landlord, Sheri, was delightful prior to our stay and available while we were there. Hope to stay there again next visit and highly recommend it.

This place is clean, private, and wonderful. We walked into an authentic, thoroughly rennovated 1930's-era colony home and could tell from the moment we entered that this had been a labor of love for the hosts. My wife and I have made a habit over the years to get "weekends away" every now and then visiting local B&B's. We have seen about a dozen or so, including the formerly "top-rated" ones and this is the best!. When we entered this place we didn't want to leave. There is a world of history and privacy inside. There are NO negative aspects. Sherri, the host provides a nice selection of foods, and the interesting books and historical anecdotes really leave the guests with a sense of what colony-era Matanuska was really like. I grew up here and felt nostalgic to the nth degree. From the original Dept. of Agriculture home package kit floorboard in the kitchen to the rope swing in the front yard, we love this place! This is an enthusiastic five stars, I can't imagine people being disappointed.

Owner response: Thank you for your kind words - your experience is exactly what we intended when renovating the Campbell House! Thanks too, for the wonderful historic Matanuska Colony book you blessed us with - it's one that has been on my 'must purchase' list :) Come stay with us again soon!

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: We love living in the unique little town of Palmer Alaska! We have called Palmer home since moving to Alaska in the 1980's. Our first Palmer home was near the Matanuska Glacier. Now we currently reside closer to the townsite of Palmer.

                      Why the Owner Chose Palmer:
Our love of Palmer and its history led us to purchase an abandoned colony house. This little gem needed some tender loving care to restore her to her former glory and to continue telling her story. The Campbell House is located on the Springer system of roads ~ a most sought after location! Its a beautiful piece of property surrounded by farms that grow world famous Alaskan produce! It has glorious views of Pioneer Peak - our beloved Palmer mountain! It was a little house that needed alot of love! Just the right house for us - love Palmer, love its history, love the location - win, win, win! :)

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The Campbell House has been accepted to the National Historic Register! So exciting to have restored and preserved ~ and to share the history of the 1935 Palmer Colony project! *Recipient of the Historic Preservation Award 2013 *Member of Mat-Su Convention and Visitors Bureau.
