Built at the turn of the 20th century, the Old Magnolia Place was renovated in 2005, but the 1900s charm remains intact. It's as welcoming and comforting as Grandma's house, just at the beach.
Located at the popular south end of Tybee, this spacious and beautifully restored boarding house is two blocks from the beach and three blocks from Back River. It's an easy walk to shops and the pier, and other popular island destinations, from the lighthouse to the old coastal battery, are a quick bike ride away. The house sits on the bike route for the south end of the island.
Original flooring, bead board walls, wrap around porches, and a claw foot bathtub remind guests of a simpler time, while central AC, a modern kitchen, wifi, and DirectTV provide all the comforts of home.
The house is perfect for family reunions and large get-togethers. The back porch table easily seats 12, and additional dining space inside seats eight more.
With six bedrooms and five baths, the house sleeps 16, comfortably accommodating multiple families. Each room has it's own entrance to the porch, for easy access to the beach, Back River, lighthouse, or pier.
And if you don't like what's being served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at home, many dining options are available within walking, biking, or golf-carting distance. And for that big evening out, nearby Savannah is home to Paula Deen's famous Southern cuisine, and a host of other excellent restaurants, from dressy to casual, abound in the area.
The house's location and blend of old-fashioned charm and modern amenities will have you coming back year after year and making more memories. Just like Grandma's place.

Fort Pulaski National Monument is less than five miles from the house. General Robert E. Lee, as a young lieutenant, oversaw the design and building of the Fort. You can easily spend a day at this historic site watching the reenactments of life at the fort during the Civil War. Tybee Marine Science Center, a conservation and science center and museum, is 400 meters from the house. Offering nature tours of both the marsh, beach, and back river, the Center is intent upon educating and entertaining both young and old on the beauties of the ecosystem that is Tybee Island. Dolphin tours are available in season, and the world famous Sea Turtles are the honored guests of Tybee from May to October. The Marine Center conducts seashore walks and guided tours during nesting season. Everyone on the island tries to accommodate the turtles by dimming their lights and using specially filtered lighting during nesting and hatching. For the golfers, play the course on the next island inland, Wilmington, that Frank Sinatra and the rest of his Rat Pack played when they were in town. And of course, there's the Lighthouse and the Battery Museum at Fort Screven. One of the last working lighthouses on the East Coast, this structure still guides the big ships in and out of Savannah Harbor.

Why Tybee Island: When my wife and I were young, we enjoyed family beach vacations. Her beach was Nags Head, NC. Mine was Surfside, SC. On our first visit to Tybee several years ago, we were immediately struck with memories of the beaches we loved from our childhoods. The family atmosphere, friendly people, the surf, and the pier took us back to good times in our pasts. In addition, the age and preservation of the property reminds us of the good times we had at our grandparents' houses. Tybee Island is the perfect place to recall old memories and make new ones.
