Pacific Grove studio description
This darling little studio retreat has a bedroom with a sitting area, full bathroom, and a fully stocked kitchen . It is one of three cottages on the property. It sits behind the main house and next to The Traveler's Cottage (http://www.vrbo.com/464633).
The most amazing part about this little place, is that it used to belong to John Steinbeck in the early 40's. He used it as his writing studio, where he worked on The Sea of Cortez. It has been renovated to pay homage to the period and history of the property. It has a masculine and sophisticated, yet romantic feel, with accents that speak to travel and hint at a woman's touch.
Guests will enjoy a private outdoor sitting area, beautiful views of the garden, peaks of the ocean, and walking accessibility to downtown Pacific Grove and Cannery Row, just a half-mile away.
For larger groups, The Writer's Studio can be rented with The Traveler's Cottage next door on the same property.
The Writer's Studio is original 1920's architecture and has short doorways throughout the studio. Tall guests will need to mind there heads when passing through the rooms.

The City provides services to the community including: excellent fire, emergency, and ocean rescue services; an award-winning natural history museum; the lowest crime rate of any city in Monterey County; a nationally-recognized 18-hole golf course; a monarch butterfly habitat sanctuary; sandy beaches; and, the oldest continuously-operating lighthouse on the west coast. My 11 year old daughter and I stayed in this cottage during a mother daughter trip. We LOVED the property. It was such a wonderful relaxing place to stay after being in san Fran for 3 days. The cottage was absolutely the cutest thing...the décor was so unique and interesting. It was well stocked with everything needed from cooking to watching movies. Amy was a pleasure to work with and a delight to meet. Location, location, location. A quick walk down the hill and we were at the aquarium, shopping, restaurants, etc... Parking was a no brainer...steps from the cottage. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a superb getaway. Thank you AMY!! Hope to bring the rest of the family there one day!

Charming stay in Monterey!
Charming stay in Monterey!
My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of staying at the Writer's Studio in Pacific Grove for two nights last weekend. After enjoying the gorgeous drive up the coast highway from L.A., we arrived in Pacific Grove and easily found the cottage. Plenty of street parking in a residential area right in front of the property. The photos are spot on - this place is divine! Cozy, cozy, cozy but not cramped.I absolutely adored it and could have moved in permanently. Small cottage but brilliant use of space and outstanding design made it extremely comfortable. The attention to detail and style/decor is impressive. Amy has impecable taste. Well done! Big bathroom and bedroom and we truly appreciated the flat panel TV and cable access - not typical in most B&B-type establishments but very welcome (and didn't take away from the charm at all.) Electric fireplace provides both heat and flame or flame only for ambience without heat. Worked great at night or early monring to take the chill off. I highly recommend the Writer's Studio and will definitely return. The rest of the property is a work-in-progress but already lovely and relaxing. Three separate cottages (one undergoing renovation now) offer complete privacy. This is a winner and I look forward to many more visits.

About the owner: We have lived in California our whole lives and have always loved the coast. It has been a dream of ours to own a little beach house someday. That dream became a reality in 2102 when we were fortunate enough to find this treasure of a property in the beautiful small beach town of Pacific Grove.
Why the Owner Chose Pacific Grove:
This property is rich in character and history. The cottages on the property have a feel of days gone by, with thoughtful architectural touches and details that speak to the period. The tranquil garden brings about a sense of peace, and one can't help but feel relaxed in its presence. When we come away to the cottage, we are immersed in its serenity, we hope you will be too.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
The historical aspect of the property was a huge draw for us as well. The main house on the property is 100 years old this year. We love that it was once owned by John Steinbeck, and often imagine him walking around this property, being inspired by its beauty and serenity. When he was away from this home, staying in New York, he wrote to his friend who was living here at the time, 'It is a pleasant little house, and we miss it...You'll find you get a lot of thinking done in that house.' (from John Steinbeck, a life in letters)
