Truly one of San Miguel's finest homes, Casa Pina is an authentic old colonial furnished in original antiques. Though just 1/2 block from the center of town, convenient to everything, it is quiet and peaceful. The south-facing outdoor living/dining room combination, filled with winter sunlight yet shady in summer, is popular with everyone who stays here. In the summer the area is cool and breezy, as the sun is further north in the sky and doesn't shine into the sitting area. For al fresco dining, there's also an outside table in the rear patio.
This outstanding colonial residence will give you a taste of luxury living, San Miguel style. Pass through the foliage-framed entryway, cross the flagstoned patio, and into the main floor dining room. Step down into the formal living room with high ceilings and walls lined with colonial Mexican paintings. The warm glow of antique furnishings and a wood-burning fireplace welcome you, and you'll understand the name of this home, Casa Pina, is appropriate, as the pina (pineapple) is symbolic of hospitality!
The three widely-separated bedrooms provide privacy and restful sleeping areas. Over the living/dining room, the master bedroom has a boveda ceiling, with king-sized bed, two walk-in closets and two bathrooms (one with shower and one with tub and separate shower and private outdoor terrace) provide the guests with total comfort and space. A bank of south facing windows keep the room toasty warm in the winter months.
The second bedroom, in a separate building, has twin beds, fireplace, bath with shower, and French doors giving out onto the rear patio. The third bedroom, upstairs over the second bedroom, has a double bed and bath with shower, and a small terrace overlooking the main central patio.
The spacious, but comfortable home is staffed by a daily full-time COOK to shop and prepare local delicacies for you, aswell as a daily
HOUSEKEEPER/LAUNDRESS. A gardener comes in a couple of times a week to tend the banks of flowering plants and vines that grace the patios, outside sitting areas, and terraces. In addition, there is a professional, English-speaking manager to call in case anything goes wrong. Everything is provided to enable you and your family or friends to enjoy a pampered vacation.
This lovely home is only half a block from the "Jardin" (historical plaza) and steps from dozens of wonderful restaurants and interesting shops. Church bells and the splashing of the antique fountain in the courtyard are all you'll hear from the covered open-air living/dining room, everybody's favorite location. Wood-fireplaces are found in front of comfortable couches both inside and outside, as well as gas-fireplaces in the master and second bedrooms for the occasional winter cold snap.
There is a powerful gas heater in the indoor living/diningroom for cool mornings.
A separate apartment (only for rent in conjunction with the main house, if you need more space) contains a tiny living/dining/kitchen area with a half bath. at the entry level, a bedroom with double bed, and bath with shower at the second level. Off the stairway is a terrace with magnificent views of the downtown church, La Parroquia. The apartment is entered from the entry hall, separated from the main house by a wrought iron gate that can be locked. It is not rented separately from the main house, however, used from time to time by the owner.
