*****SPECIAL INITIATIVE!!!***** We have created a program known as "SERENITY WEEKS," which will be offered over a two-week period, once a month between NOW and late March 2012. Great value for the money!

What is SERENITY? No driving nor GPS to contend with, no reservations to make, nor "surprise" costs, nor lines to stand on, but rather... rich cultural and educational experiences, wonderful food and excellent wines, great fun with other guests from around the world... Discover Saint Rémy de Provence and its surroundings. Stay in a restored cluster of 17-th century provençal farm houses, all part of a "hamlet" of holiday homes in a very interesting historical setting.

This progam represents a great opportunity to explore Provence, especially for our snow- and gray sky-bound visitors, anxious to feel some of that provençal sunshine, to soak in our warm and bubbling jacuzzi, to visit restaurants and places of interest without "hassle," to enjoy those wonderful and romantic nights in one of our PROVENCE PARADISE cottages, in front of the fireplace, with a glass of great red wine in hand! Yes, provençal life is great...even in the dead of winter! In fact, provençal life is amazing...anytime! Santé!!!

"L'Orangerie" at PROVENCE PARADISE is a 17-th century stone cottage, best suited for a couple and or a family with up to two small children. This house sleeps a maximum of 4 people and is part of a cluster of six old, provencal farm houses, with a total capacity for accommodation of up to 37 guests in our "hamlet" at PROVENCE PARADISE.

In L'Orangerie, we offer one queen-size bedroom with toilette and shower, plus an area on the mezzanine level two twin- or one queen-size bed. Those on the mezzanine level share the toilette and shower with the guests staying in the queen-size bedroom on the mainfloor.

A big fireplace is a central focal point in the indoor social area. Then, there is a very functional, modern kitchen, with a family dining table for up to 4 hungry eaters. Just outside, guests enjoy summertime, family life on the large, outdoor covered terrace, with private use of a barbeque, comfortable seating for cocktails and games, plus a mosaic dining table seating for everyone. Very comfortable and very private. Something very special, indeed.

The large, 7x10 metre pool, family jacuzzi (heated year-round) and summer kitchen are just down an old stone stairway from this old cottage, as are the family game areas and sun/shade furniture for guests. L'ORangerie is a very private, family living area, with an old Roman wall and tall shrubs and trees, to assure privacy from the outside.

Restoration of this 17-th century property involved two years of hard work, to create full-comfort indoor and outdoor living area which covers about 100 square metres. A true, labor of love!

Property Location:
L'Orangerie" at PROVENCE PARAIDSE is in our restored "hamlet," on a hill just above the old town centre of Saint Remy de Provence. We are well within walking distance of all activities and shops, not more than 10 minutes on-foot along the old canal path or following the quiet, country road into town.
Sunshine guaranteed, a warm jacuzzi year-round, huge pool and terraces. Relax and enjoy! Our guests come from all around the world. We speak many languages and are here ready to help you to LOVE PROVENCE...just like we do!

This house is part of a cluster of six old, provencal farm houses, which we have recently completely restored and which are perched on a hill just over St. Remy de Provence. "La Tuilerie" (VRBO#78417),which sleeps 12 people, is close by. "Le Vieil Moulin" and "La Tour de la Girouette" (VRBO# 80586),which sleep 6 and 8 respectively, and most recently "Le Mas de la Pierre Milliare" and "La Bastide des Micocouliers" are all just down the hill...on the other side of small streams which flow through the gardens toward the watermill and cascade to make the wheel turn slowly.

A Bit of History:
Specifically, "L'Orangerie" was built in the early 17th century, originally as part of a much larger fabrique, where we found large ovens and the remains of what was probably a Roman aquaduct, used centuries ago.

17th-Century Stone Cottage+Large Pool+Jacuzzi in St. Remy

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose St. Remy de Provence

Sunshine, long season for outdoor life, very friendly people, historical attraction of the region and of our specific site, proximity to the centre of Saint Rémy de Provence, the advantage of being in the geographical centre of a region with so many attractions as those offered by Provence,... and most certainly, the challenge: first of the restoration project and now of high-quality innkeeping! We learn something new every day. Discover 14th century town walls. Then, look for the different, historic entries to the city, try any one of them as a starting point for your discovery of the shops, fountains, picturesque squares and historic buildings 'intra muros.' Remember to check out the menus posted outside of the many restaurants, too! Then, be sure to come back on Wednesday, when the whole village comes to life as the Provencal market rolls into town, quiet streets and squares become a thriving marketplace. There are still some bargains! Start out by stocking your kitchen shelves for your stay at Provence Paradise. Anyway, there is a bit of everything and everybody at the market!

And, what you and your family can learn!: The village of St. Remy stands on one of the oldest archaeological finds in Europe. The origins are Gallo-Roman from the 7th century BC until the 2nd century AD, at which time the Roman city of Glanum was founded. This was the origin of today's St. Remy de Provence. Our walls at Provence Paradise were built with stone original cut for Roman buildings and statuary. Then, there are the paintings of Van Gogh. You can follow the artist's path through the town and the nearby countryside, to view things still from his perspective...little has changed! Then it's time to venture away from St. Remy in the direction of Arles--the 'Rome of the North,' or Avignon--'City of the Popes,' or Orange, with its Roman theatre

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

We began our self-catering operations in the summer of 2006. Reflecting on the Guests' Comments available for review on our website , the key benefits to staying with us at PROVENCE PARADISE can be summarized as follows:

*We speak lots of languages, know the local customs and understand our clients' expectations. The combination of these three factors can be very powerful!

*We provide high-end accommodation of reliable quality. Our modus oparendi is "discreet presence," meaning we are there in a flash if you need us for directions or tourist information, for solving a problem, for a trip to the doctor and/or to the pharmacy, for finding lost luggage, and even for going to fetch those who get lost, etc.

*We cater well to two distinct clientèle...young family groups and adult travelers... and know how to keep the two separate and at a safe distance during what amounts to different travel "seasons" throughout the year.

*We greet our guests personally, with true and honest enthusiasm, glad to see them here; anxious to have them dig into the dinner+drinks we have ready upon arrival, at the end of their long day of travel; prepared to offer advice on where to go/what to do, taking into account the specific dimensions of the family. And, we only say: "please come again and/or send us other nice folks like you," if we really mean it! In fact, that’s most of the time and about half of our guests reserve for next year before they even leave this year ... so our "repeat visit" rate is nearly 70 percent.

*And finally, for us, inn-keeping at PROVENCE PARADISE is a pleasure. Showing our guests "where it all came from…starting with Roman ruins,… and how it all got taken down and then put back together..." is a source of great pride to our entire PROVENCE PARADISE Team. If you have some/lots of spare time, ask us to show you the photos and tell you our tales! There is a story under almost every rock!

A
Stadium

Look for the climbing wall, the skate-board track, and the municipal football stadium. We are on the hill, just above these landmarks.

B
Camp Grounds

Another easily-identifiable landmark is the Mas de Nicholas camp grounds... just follow the RV's from Holland. We are up the hill on the right!

Owner's Map of St. Remy de Provence

As a family, we discovered Saint Rémy de Provence, traveling from our home of 15 years in the northeastern part of France. We were looking for sunshine, friendly people, a new "culture,"... and a challenging "retirement project." We came, stayed for a couple of days, then weeks... and now, we hope we are here forever!
Why move when you live in "paradise?" The sun shines 330 out of 365 days a year, we can be outside (working and playing) in the garden about 10 months of the year, and the PROVENCE PARADISE "hamlet" we have built is a place where our children and our grandchildren enjoy coming to visit. After all, that was the objective. Indeed, we are very proud of this "hamlet," created from what was "one big pile of old rocks" only five years ago. A real, 6.5/7 day, 16/24 hour "labor of love. L'Orangerie is the smallest of six long-abandoned buildings, which rose up again from the pile of old rocks! Mission accomplished!
AND, while accomplishing our family "hamlet" goal, we discovered this whole new world of international "innkeeping!" Year-around, thanks at first to VRBO and now often to "word-of-mouth," we receive guests from everywhere in the world. Some just come to relax by the wintertime fireplaces or by the summertime pool. Others want to discover the Roman ruins right here under our feet, to go off to the markets, the beaches, flea markets, auctions, vinyards, golf courses, even nearby ski slopes. All the same things that we also like to do; so we are good at giving suggestions! Never a dull moment at PROVENCE PARADISE... Yes, there is time for a siesta every once in awhile! After all, this is "paradise" and we are "retired."
We take this opportunity to invite you to come to experience for yourselves the fruit of our labor in the restoration of these 17-th century provençal buildings.

What an exquisite cluster of houses in this very special hamlet just outside of St. Remy. We chose to come in early September to avoid some of the crowds and the summer heat. We were pleased with our choices but most especially we were delighted with the accommodation of L'Orangerie. A perfect place for a couple, retired or honeymoon and everyone in between. The grounds are lovingly cared for and the hospitality incomparable. Everything has been thought of so all you have to do is enjoy it all. William and his staff do an exceptional job of looking after the needs of his guests on a personal basis. You won't be disappointed; we certainly weren't and plan to return.

Our family of four recently returned from a delightful week spent at L'Orangerie at Provence Paradise. Our host, William Moore met us at the Avignon train station and drove us to the cottage where a fabulous lasagne meal and a stocked fridge awaited us, along with an excellent bottle of rose. The cottage, decorated in predominantly yellow tones in Provencal style is charming, and includes all modern amenities. We especially enjoyed the private patio where we could relax in chaises longues, or eat a meal at the outdoor table. The pool and gardens are lovely, and since the weather in August is often over 30 degrees Celsius, we made good use of the pool. William provided us with croissants and pain au chocolat for several mornings and gave us lots of information about village events such as the Feria in mid-August where we saw bulls running through the streets of St. Remy as well as white Camargue horses and their Provencal-costumed riders. The town of St. Remy itself, just a 10 or 15 minute walk from L'Orangerie, is an ideal centre from which to explore many areas of Provence. Not having a car, we were able to visit many interesting places by bus. One village we wanted to visit was not accessible by bus, so William very kindly drove us there one evening. The kindness and generosity of our host and his team, and the beauty and comfort of our surroundings made this holiday the best ever! We just wish that we could have stayed another week.

Owner response:WOW! The MESSENGER's are such nice people, sincerely appreciative of everything we could do for them, that we have wonderful memories of their séjour with us! "Come again and/or send us other great people like you!" Need we say more?

We booked one week in Provence at Au Moulin Entre Deux Mas Paradise Provence where William Moore the owner and his family was most accommodating. There are several style houses on the property but we chose the Orangerie as it was just two of us. The accommodation is 1 bedroom with a loft bedroom for 1-2 children. There is only 1 full bath. It was fully equipped with kitchen, well stocked refrigerator, loads of dishes and pots, towels, washer/dryer combo. The den and furnishings were comfortable and each piece of furniture was tastefully selected to blend with the Provence theme. The breakfast table looked onto a private garden with more patio chairs and loungers. The bathroom/shower was excellent and a very comfortable bed. The fireplace would be great in winter. The AC was needed in June as it was warm although we had afternoon showers on several days. They deliver the first night welcome dinner with lasagna, salad desert bread and wine. William delivered warm bread the first morning which was also appreciated. Outside you stepped into a paradise, everywhere you turned beautiful flowers, gardens, little streams and a water mill, well maintained pool and adjacent hot tub, a barbeque and more lounge chairs around the pool. They have a social during the week for guests to meet. We viewed the other larger houses and they were of all furnished with beautiful antiques and done to a high standard. We liked the location and the town of St Remy filled with an excellent selection of restaurants, courtyards with fountains, historic sites and great shops.

Owner response:We are, indeed, very happy that Gerry and Artie were so satisfied with their stay here at PROVENCE PARADISE! We try very hard to assure a very high level of comfort and safety/well-being. Sounds like we achieved our objective! "Come again and/or send other nice people just like you, Gerry and Artie."

My wife and I stayed in l’orangerie for ten nights in May 2008 as part of our honeymoon. For about six months leading up to the trip William and I were in almost daily contact by email with William providing advice and assistance not only about Provence but also in relation to our other locations within France. We were immensely looking forward to our stay and putting a face to ‘William’ and ‘Provence Paradise. To say everything met our expectations would be an understatement. It is easier I think to put a few comments in point form:•The welcome from William was very special complete with a lovely meal, wine, flowers etc•William and his crew maintain a very discreet service, to the point that we hardly saw William for a few days.•Fresh croissants in the morning (or for lunch depending when you wake up) was a real treat.•William can provide a wealth of information and his tip of a wine tour with Francois was greatly received. Spending the day with Francois on his wine tour with a maximum of four other people is a great way to spend a day. Another tip from William that I have never read in any guide book or on the internet saw about 2000 sheep, donkeys, goats etc running down the street as part of a local festival right outside our cottage.•The cottage is beautiful, with all the mod cons yet with the old style Provencal style.•The grounds of the estate are beautiful and very well kept. The pool is very large as is the outdoor spa.•The location is extremely convenient. A ten minute walk into town for market day or just to walk home after too many bottles of wine with lunch or dinner! Otherwise everything you would want to see is within a 45 minute drive in all directions.•William had a dinner party with other guests during our stay and it was a great night, finishing very late in the night/early in the morning depending on your point of view!I could say so much more but you will just need to go and find out for yourself. I am happy to answer any questions that prospective guests may have and I can provide some photos that we took to assist you make a decision.I would finally just add that after months of looking forward to our stay it was very hard to leave. William and I had become email mates before our stay but by the end of our stay it was like leaving family. That is how William treated us ‘as family’

Owner response:My PROVENCE PARADISE Team and I had a lot of fun hosting the young MOYLAN's. They honored us by coming all the way from Australia to spend their honeymoon in our "hamlet." Taking good care of them was a pleasure for us. Kind of "doing what we do naturally." Plus, we love to host "Aussies!" We expect Sara and Paddy back someday... in a considerably larger house, with a good number of little MOYLAN's in tow!

Date of Stay: 11/12/07 Review Submitted: 11/12/07

We searched the internet for a place to stay in the Provence region of France and came across “Provence Paradise”. We have traveled extensively and without doubt, this was the best place we stayed anywhere. The property is magnificent. The L'Orangerie cottage has an almost unbelievable attention to detail. Very warm, very cozy, great fireplace, nicely equipped kitchen, fresh flowers. Best of all, the refrigerator was fully stocked with all of the necessities. In addition, home made lasagna and salad was waiting for us upon arrival. After a full day of travel, it was nice not to worry about trying to find a grocery store or a restaurant. The next morning, a bag of fresh croissants was hanging on our door handle. Proprietor William Moore was the most gracious, caring host that we have ever encountered. You will feel like you have known him all of your life. He goes out of his way to be helpful. If you seek information about tourist destinations, parking areas, restaurants, William can help. He is multi lingual and can assist almost any traveler in their native language. Early each morning and at the end of the day, he visited us just to ask if we had any needs or if we wanted information that might help to more effectively plan our travels. At the end of our visit, he asked what time we would leave so that he could say goodbye. He is truly one of the most memorable people we have encountered. His staff, Bettina and Olivier, are equally attentive and caring. You might find lodging that would be less expensive but you will never find one that offers so much comfort for what we believe to be a good price. If you have the opportunity to stay at Provence Paradise and L'Orangerie, do not hesitate. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like more detail.Bob and Pauline BaillieBatavia,OhioSeptember 29 to October 6, 2007

Owner response:What more can we say? It would seem to the naked eye that Bob and Pauline were related to us.... but no, they are part of our new "family of contented guests at Provence Paradise." They helped to invent our new 2008 logo: "Come as friends, leave as family." Not everyone, mind you, ... but the BAILLIE certainly do!

THE DIFFERENCE IS IN THE DETAILS. Yes, the Provence region is beautiful in the Fall and the weather is perfect. What made our trip extraordinary was our stay at L'Orangerie. The cottage is even more delightful than it appears on the website. The attention to detail by owner William Moore, assisted by Betinna and Olivier, provided a most enjoyable and relaxing stay. It was such a joy to arrive and find fresh flowers in the cottage, a fully stocked fridge and a wonderful dinner waiting for us. The cottage is completely furnished, and if your are inclined to cook some of the wonderful dishes of Provence, the kitchen is very well equipped. The grounds are colorful and immaculately maintained. William so graciously assisted us in planning our itinerary each day, and he was just a phone call away if any problems arose. Saint Remy and L'Orangerie are centrally located, and all of the major sights are within a short driving distance. Yes, there are many places you could choose to stay during your visit to Provence, but why would you want to stay anywhere but L'Orangerie?

Owner response:Yes, we try harder...and it begins to show! Thanks to Mikki and Steven for their visit, their friendship and their support to our PROVENCE PARADISE program. We know that the DAVIS's will be back! And, we will be very happy to see them!

L'Orangerie really was the highlight of our French tour. It was a wonderful experience to have dinner awaiting us on arrival, a well stocked fridge and fresh croissants for breakfast. It made a great base to explore Provence, and William & Bettina were always available to help us with any problems or advice. We look forward to returning one day for more than 1 week next time.

Owner response:Truthfully, RUGBY was probably the great motivator to get the NAHRUNG's this far over the seas from Australia. Then, we were happy to see that they could relax with their twin daughters and enjoy the peace and quiet of St. Rémy and of PROVENCE PARADISE. That is our "specialty." We hope to see David and Patti again soon.

My husband, David, and I had a lovely time at the L'Orangerie this past summer (2007)!We actually arranged our whole trip around staying at L'Orangerie because we fell in love with the accommodations and setting online.I have to admit that I was a bit weary at first booking since I did not know if this "Paradise" existed, but let's just say that David and I were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Not only was the cottage wonderful but the hospitality was superb!Enjoy your stay.

Owner response:Jennifer's comments are those which are in the heads and on the lips of those who, after a long day of travel, ring the bell at our front gate...and then hope someone shows up to open the door to "Provence Paradise" and that what they find is at least as good as the website! We aim to be even better! And our visitors say we are!

The earlier comments do not fully describe what a lovely, comfortable and welcoming place William and his staff have developed. We had a tremendous visit 7-21 Sept. We felt that we were friends when we arrived, and family when we left. The property is lovely, the accommodations beyond expectation, and the location very convenient for sightseeing. I could go on and on .....

Owner response:No need to "go on and on," Sarah and Larry. Just come back and/or send us other nice people just like you! Thanks, too, for all of your ideas about how to make time at PROVENCE PARADISE even more comfortable and memorable.
