Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2006
About us - Your hosts Jeff & Marilyn. We relocated to New Mexico 9 years ago from Northern California. Marilyn worked for TWA and operated a corporate travel agency in Los Angeles for 25 years. Born & Raised in Southern California and lived in the South Bay cities of Manhattan Beach & Rolling Hills. Marilyn also kept busy raising and breeding Arabian horses. Prior to Abiquiu, Marilyn lived 15 years at Sea Ranch on the rugged Northern California Coastline and in the Sierra Foothills at the Equestrian community of Cool in Eldorado County. Son Jeff raised in Manhattan Beach and Rolling Hills, Ca. Relocated to Santa Barbara & attended U.C.S.B. Moved on to Davis, Ca. where he attended the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Jeff changed professions and worked for several commuter airlines in Santa Barbara and Qantas Airways in San Francisco & Air New Zealand in Los Angeles. Jeff also lived at Sea Ranch and owned and operated an Ocean & River Kayaking Outfitters, lessons, tour & Rental shop in Gualala on the Mendocino coast. He sold the business to become involved in Hotel and Restaurant management, decided to get well rounded in the profession and went on to be a Chef. He attended The Culinary Academy in San Francisco and worked in many well known restaurants in San Francisco and Maui, Hawaii. Jeff was an avid Sailor on the San Francisco bay and owned several sailboats, for which one he lived on. He traded in his life on the water, for a life in the high desert. We bought a quaint quintessential "Santa Fe Style" Adobe home in Santa Fe. Jeff became a Personal Chef and a Caterer.
Why the Owner Chose Abiquiu
We decided we needed more wide open space and discovered Abiquiu! We bought our Northern New Mexico style Pitched Tin Roof home in Abiquiu, January 2006. We remodeled the North Wing of our home and converted it to a Vacation Rental Casita. Our occupancy rate has been 90%-100% each month ever since! We enjoy the company our American Paint Mare "Valentine". Our 2 Llamas "Cusco" and "Cinder", and the mini Donkey's "Shawnee", "Daisy", "Sunny" and "Lolita". (They stand only 3 feet high) ! In addition to our 2 Jack Russell Terriers, "Maddie and Spicy" and our Cardigan Corgi named "Soloman - a.k.a. "Sully" and our precious Cat, "Pumpkin". For those of your with allergies, the Horse and Llama Barn is located downwind 1000 feet from the Casita. Our friendly dogs are only allowed in the common areas if invited by the guests. We are all quiet and keep a very low profile and are around only when you need us. We have plans to build another Casita soon!
We both enjoy travel, cooking, wine and our Horse, Llamas and Pets. Jeff likes to Ski in winter and Sail in other places than New Mexico in summer!
We enjoy meeting the wonderful people that have visited and many that have revisited from all around the country and some from other countries that have stayed at our Casita de Chuparosa here in Abiquiu!
We look forward to your stay!
Jeff & Marilyn

We just completed our sixth stay at the casita, and each time we have begun to plan our next visit before we even finish the present one. Jeff and Marilyn are the best hosts anywhere. They will help you plan your visit if you wish or will leave you alone if that is your preference. The house is immaculate and comfortable. The kitchen and fridge are completely stocked with quality breakfast provisions and are restocked as needed. The house faces Georgia O'Keeffe's beloved Pedernal and you can watch the changing light and spectacular sunsets. Abiquiu is a gorgeous area with endless places to explore or hike. This is one of the most spectacular areas of New Mexico. We have traveled widely and don't know of anywhere more beautiful. There is absolutely nothing that could make this rental any better than it already is.
