"My family of 8 spent a week at this house (called Sanderson House) in February. We also rented the guest house behind it. It's hard to describe how fabulous this house is--the layout allows for many private spaces as well as places the group can be together. Every possible amenity has been provided, i.e., everything for the trip to the beach (towels, boogie boards, umbrellas, etc.), as well as a gorgeous pool on the premises, outdoor grill, bar, TV's in many locations, and a kitchen with everything a cook could imagine. It is clean and well maintained and actually, the photos don't do justice to the appearance of this very special home. The bedrooms are spacious, the baths (especially on 1st floor) are luxurious, and the outdoor verandas and porches are so inviting. Everyone's favorite spot was what I call the "widow's walk" on the very top of the house, with amazing views 360 degrees. Whether it was morning coffee or evening drinks, there was always someone up there. As for getting around, we rented 2 golf carts even though we're all hikers, walkers, etc. The house is not far from the center of the little town yet far enough to be really private. The owner and his family were most helpful with every little detail we asked about, and were available for anything that might go wrong. (Nothing did.) A housekeeper was there to clean every day, which was another bonus. I saw some other rental properties on Harbour Island and I'd definitely put Sanderson House at the top of the list. So look no further, this is the place to stay on Harbour Island."

  • Great Time Staying at Little Arches!

"We LOVE Harbour Island! My husband and I actually got engaged 3 years ago there:) We hadn't been back since, so this trip was really exciting for us! We live in Miami, and now have a 6 month old baby boy:) The hubby flew the us all down (including my mother who was visiting from Minnesota). Little Arches was an awesome VRBO! The three of us stayed in the Honeymoon Suite, which was perfect! Very clean, lots of room and we settled in nicely:) My mom stayed in the charming Studio. It was just the right size for her! She had all of the amenities she needed and it was just great having her down the stairs! The outdoor terrace connected to the Honeymoon Suite was fabulous! Great place to catch some rays during the day and unwind with a cocktail during sunset! Loved it! The location of Little Arches couldn't get much better either. We are beachgoers, so staying just a couple blocks from the beach was a really big perk for us! I highly recommend Little Arches to everyone. We will definitely be back!!"

  • Harbour Island Living at it's Best!!

"From the first phone conversation with Julia, I knew we were in for a very special treat. Her attention to detail and caring attitude to satisfy a guest's every request was very important as we needed to add a few days to the beginning of our stay, had special requests since bringing along a 2 year old, and were there for a very special family wedding. A home well worth the rental price! Everything was immaculate and the staff perfectly professional & polite. When one guest broke a finger, the pool man walked the island to get the doctor and nurse to attend to him... Talk about service! The 3 bedrooms in the main house are very nicely appointed, spacious and comfortable. The view from the master bed/bath has to be seen to be believed! The pool and patio are very well maintained and relaxing. The tucked away guest house made for a nice private suite and was nicely appointed. We had our boat there and the dockage situation was very nice and private. There are quite a few stairs up to the home, so renting a golf cart upon arrival to unload and drive gear up the road to the house is helpful. The kitchen is very nice and has everything you need to cook. There were 8 of us staying there and we had plenty of room to roam and live very comfortably with each other! We will definitely stay there again! It is a true Bahamian Luxury Estate!"

  • Perfect Family Vacation

"Our party of seven, including a 3 year old and two teenagers, had the most wonderful time at Afterthought for a week. The house is well laid out with every vacation rental amenity possible and the convenient location worked perfect for us. We were pleasantly surprised by the bedroom and the pool size, they were bigger than anticipated. The owners were very nice to deal with and prompt with responses. The house is just a few minute walk from the Governor's Dock and we actually walked everywhere, even with a 3 year old. Francine, the housekeeper, was very helpful and kept the house very clean. We can't wait to go back for an extended stay!"

Harbour Island Travel Tips

Tropical Leisure at Harbour Island Vacation Rentals

Harbour Island is rated as one of the Bahamas best beach destinations. That says quite a lot, considering that the Bahamas is a tropical paradise. What sets Harbour Island apart is the three-mile length of the beaches and the unique pink hue of the beach sand. This gives the island an almost ethereal appearance from a distance. The barrier reefs surrounding the island provide safe waters for swimming, snorkeling and diving. With its warm tropical weather, Harbour Island is a year-round destination.

Getting to Harbour Island Resorts

The international airport on Harbour Island is known as North Eleuthera Airport. Commercial flights from Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Nassau land here. If you are flying in from other parts of North America or Europe, a number of international carriers fly into either Nassau or Miami. From there, you can get a flight connection on to Eleuthera. From the airport, it’s a short 10-minute taxi ride to the boat dock and a further 10-minute boat ride across to Harbour Island.

Once in the Bahamas, you can also get to Harbour Island by using the Bahamas Fast Ferries. From Nassau, you will take the ferry to Spanish Wells, Eleuthera and then on to Harbour island. This is a quick and convenient way to get between the islands. If you are on your own timetable, you can make use of both land and water taxis to get to Harbour Island. Once on the island, the most popular way to get around is to hire a golf buggy.

Private charter flights are available from several airlines based in the Bahamas. When making inquiries, ensure that the company you use is a certified and licensed charter airline. This is a great way to do some aerial sightseeing of the Bahamas.

Harbour Island Travel Attractions

The beaches of Harbour Island are undoubtedly one of its greatest attractions. The crisp pink coral sands and calm turquoise waters certainly paint a picture of paradise. Sun lovers can laze on the beach and check out the scene. In the late afternoon, take yourself along to one of the beachfront restaurants and enjoy a cocktail or two as you watch the sun dip below the horizon. The dining on Harbour Island is legendary. You can enjoy fine dining at upscale restaurants or enjoy a more casual dining experience of local fare at a neighborhood restaurant.

Boats can be chartered and you can enjoy a day out cruising on the calm turquoise waters. Dive operators offer scuba diving on both the inner and outer reefs. One dive site in particular is ranked at one of the world’s best. The dive is called Current Cut Dive and only recommended for advanced divers who are experienced in drift diving. The current flows extremely fast along rock walls that run between Harbour Island and Current Island and it is a thrilling experience. Divers can drift as far as two to three miles in as little as 10 minutes. Snorkeling excursions can easily be arranged on the colorful tropical reefs. Anglers can try their luck surf fishing from the rocks or chartering a boat for a deep sea fishing excursion.

On land, you can browse the many street side stalls in Dunmore for souvenirs and crafts. In Dunmore Town, there are several historical sites that are interesting to visit. The town was well known for its sugar refineries, rum distilleries and ship building in the 1800s. The historic Hill Steps were built from stone hewn by local inhabitants. The Titus Hole is a cave overlooking the bay that is believed to have served as a jail at one point in time.

Stylish Vacation Rentals on Harbour Island

Aside from its natural beauty, the island has a distinctly glamorous feel about it. Harbour Island is a popular haven for celebrities. Most rental homes have superb views over the bay. The homes are stylishly decorated and furnished with most modern conveniences.
