Surpassed our expectations.!
"Upon entering Casa Buena Ventura, you are tranformed into another world. This home's architecture is absolutely breathtaking - as is the very carefully selected art pieces.
Everything about Casa Buena Ventura has been thoughtfully attended to. The owners are wonderful to work with...always very prompt in communication and thorough with every detail. Alicia, the housekeeper, prepared two delightful breakfasts for us - (what a treat!) and she keeps the property in immaculate condition.
We whole-heartedly recommend Casa Buena Ventura and owners without reservation. This is an exceptionally magical place for your next San Miguel visit.!

"We spend 14 days in February 2015 in San Miguel and we were delighted with the home, the location and certainly with San Miguel. The house is any easy 10 - 15 minutes flat walk to the main parts of San Miguel but far enough away that the sounds you have in the evening are laughing children. We enjoyed the third floor outdoor area as well as watching hot air balloons come over the top deck nearly every morning. Both the property and San Miguel exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be back. Patty and Dean"

"The Magical Garden House was the perfect choice for a first visit to San Miguel with our 13-year old son. I love color and Mexican folk art, and this place has it in spades! The property includes a two-story, 2-bedroom home on one side of the garden, and "The Casita" - a studio apartment - on the other side. We rented only the two-story house, which has the living/dining/kitchen spaces and a powder room on the main floor, and an elegant curved wooden stair leading to the two bedrooms, bathroom and laundry facilities on the second floor. There are large, handsome built-in cabinets in which to store your belongings, and the entire wall facing the garden has operable windows to let in fresh air and the delightful frog and cricket sounds (and the occasional rooster) of uphill San Miguel!
The furnishings are cozy and comfortable and the beds and bedding are too. The huge bathroom upstairs is a work of art with its colorful hand-painted tile work and I especially enjoyed soaking in the deep tiled bathtub. The central garden is amazing, and features table and chair seating areas adjacent to the kitchen, a large covered seating area facing the garden and another umbrella table and chairs on the roof of the covered seating area. From the second story of the main house you access the Crow's Next -- which boasts a territorial view of San Miguel and the surrounding mountains. It is breathtaking and truly the cherry on the top of this charming house.
The location is very secure on a quiet street with a keyed metal door from the street into the garden. If that wasn't enough, the property is watched over by a lovely Virgin of Guadalupe wall mural across the street! Not once at the property or out and about in San Miguel were we concerned for the safety of ourselves or our belongings. It is an ambitious yet delightful 15-minute walk down hill to the center of town along rustic cobblestone or stone block streets. Everyone in San Miguel -- including the locals -- wear sturdy athletic or walking shoes. Keens would be perfect. Although we did walk back up the hill a few times, we more often opted to jump into one of the many green taxis which are prevalent in town and pip up the hill for the equivalent of about US$2.50. Can't beat that!!
There are many restaurants down the hill, as well as fresh tortillas, rotisserie chicken and other delights on your way to the Mercado des Artisanias. Don't miss the street tacos near the main square at night!"

"I enjoy this part of San Miguel, by the Ancha and parts south. The surrounding area has many activities within walking distance. The neighborhood is safe, and a close walk to the neighborhood church and it's park setting. Fairly noisy, but that is the beauty of living in a local neighborhood. It's something that you get used to. I opened the door one day and a horse was tethered just across the street with the rider dismounting...gotta love Mexico!
The home has been lovingly restored, the furniture is comfortable, the kitchen well equipped with a large refrigerator and all the pots/pans necessary for creating family meals, if you choose to cook. But, there are so many wonderful, inexpensive restaurants within walking distance..why bother? And most importantly, the home is kept clean by a dedicated and sweet housekeeper Christina. A gardener also comes 2x a week to keep the flowers/leaves swept and the fountain & patio area clean. Lots and lots of potted plants and greenery create a very tropical and relaxing atmosphere.
There is a balcony off the master bedroom, but it isn't really private as you walk past it to access the front bedroom and the rooftop patio. Access to the rooftop is up a very steep set of off-set steps and might be difficult for someone with a fear of heights and/or people not able to negotiate steep steps, but there are sturdy handrails to use. There were three, comfy lounge chairs and a table with four chairs/2 umbrellas on the roof top deck. We loved watching the sunset at night and the view of the neighborhood church, lit up at night is magical. No view of the Parroquia, but the nighttime sky and stars are special.
Flor, the house manager is a very special person and part of the house's charm. She takes care of any problems that might happen (internet/phones were spotty on our visit) with a quiet professionalism. Never did the phone situation handled, but vacation isn't a time for all that anyway. There are many WIFI cafes within walking distance as well, so grab a cup of coffee and make some new friends."
