Puamana--a Wonderful, Beautiful, Relaxing and Gated Community
"We have stayed in Maui many times and found what we believe is one of best locations to return again and again. If you hear locals talk about how Maui used to be in days past, this location must be a good representation as it is private, safe, beautiful, generally quiet, and relaxed. The condo is part of a fourplex and not too far from the community center. It is easy to locate, just enter the main gate, turn left, cross a little bridge and look left. All bedrooms are upstairs with two bathrooms. The downstairs is cozy but fine for a group of 5 or less. The shared garden area is private and much more quiet than some of the condo's closer to the beach and highway. There is a park nearby and Lahaina is a short walk or quick bike ride away. The owners are very professional and communicate extremely well. Property management requires all guest cars to have vehicle pass, which does not cost extra. Overall, one must consider Puamana if you are a new or seasoned Maui traveler. If you are a small group/family on a budget, this condo and property will be an excellent option."

"We stayed here over Christmas with our two sons, ages 11 and 13. Booking and dealing with the management went smooth and easy. The townhouse is spacious and as advertised.... We enjoyed cooking in the large kitchen, each having our own bedroom, and having lots of space to spread out. I loved being close to Lahaina.... we didn't walk there as it was probably about 30 min walk away with no actual sidewalk, just a shoulder, but it was about a 5 min drive, close to grocery shopping, feast at lele, surfing lessons , Front street etc. The townhouse is in the last section of townhouses before Puamana beach park (public beach) but we didn't notice any issues from that. It is located right on the highway, and at first I thought it would really annoy me, as I am very sensitive to noise, but we found if we kept the door on that side of the house closed, it wasn't noticeable. Our eyes and ears were drawn to the other side of the house, with the ocean!
A couple things I wish I'd known: although the townhouse is oceanfront, you are not allowed to access the beach in front of your townhouse. You have to walk way way down to a common access point, which is super annoying. There are signs and caution tape all along the shoreline saying $250 fine if you go down to the beach at a no access point. But to carry all the gear and walk around is annoying, when paying for a waterfront place..... You have to haul stuff as far as if you were not renting waterfront. The other thing is that the beach is sandy with pockets of big rocks. We went swimming without watershoes and within 15 minutes we all had cut feet, my husbands pretty badly. So if you swim there, be sure to wear Aqua socks.
I'm torn about staying here again.... The place itself was nice, location on Maui great.... But I think I'd try to find a place where I was allowed to access the beach right at my rental."

Lahaina Shores Resort--Great Location, Great Value
"We go to Lahaina regularly and have always wanted to give it a try. We finally got our wish.
Best features--great location within walking distance to the Banyan Tree and all the shops and restaurants. Nice pool, sunbathing area and beach. The owner of this unit went out of his way to make sure we were happy. The Lahaina Shores staff are very friendly and accommodating. It was convenient having the general store next door and we bought food and beverages there. There are also a few restaurants--our favorite was Pacific O. Parking is in the basement garage at 505 Front Street and is a great bargain compared to the other Lahaina resorts.
Only Drawback--it's a little noisy. My wife routinely sleeps with ear plugs all the time. I borrowed a pair from her beginning the second night. After that, all was great. It's a small inconvenience.
Overall--Lahaina Shores is a great value--probably one of the best in Lahaina. Competitively priced with other accommodations that are not right on the beach. If you are looking for a place to spend a few nights on the beach, it's hard to go wrong with Lahaina Shores."
