  • Perfect for our quick weekend getaway

"We truly enjoyed every minute of our stay and all agreed that we should have booked at least one night more. Our group included 3 adult couples and our 3 children under the age of 9 months and your home was the perfect location for us. We were able to spread out and each have our own space along with giving the babies their own room to share. On Friday evening we enjoyed drinks on the lawn of the restaurant while the babies played happily in the grass. It was definitely our favorite memory from the weekend. Saturday night the adults sat on the rocks near the beach to take in the stars and we were able to see 5 shooting stars! It was gorgeous. Thank you for opening your home to us and for keeping such a lovely home for guests to stay. We look forward to being back again in the future."

  • A Little "Peace" of Paradise

"We started visiting Door County, almost yearly, over 30 years ago when our children were young. Last year we wanted to return with our three children, their spouses, and our eight young grandchildren (ages 2-8). We spent a week at Craignair and loved it so much that we have just returned from a second visit. We could not have found a more perfect place! The living room, dining room, and screen porch are all spacious enough for us to spend quality time together and the bedrooms allow plenty of privacy (as well as beautiful lake views) for anyone desiring that! The grounds are so spacious that there was room for 8 kids to run and play, and we didn't have to worry about them being too noisy and bothering the neighbors! It was also the perfect setting for nightly campfires, our Family Talent Show, and this year our own Family Olympics. Last year the youngest family members lived on the swing set, but this year their time was spent in the new, big sandbox complete with LOTS of Tonka trucks. The older kids enjoyed biking, kayaking, swimming, basketball, etc,. etc. The adults all loved the opportunity to sit on the deck with a good book or just to enjoy the water. Because we've been to Door County so many times, we have lots of favorite places to go and things to do. The location of Craignair made that so easy! Not only is Craignair a little slice of heaven, but the Mathee brothers are so accommodating and great to work with. They go out of their way to answer questions and to make sure your stay is wonderful. All four of our youngest cried the day we were to leave because they didn't want to go and all 8 grandchildren are already talking about "next year at the Vacation House!""

  • Peaceful spot yet close to town

"My husband and I stayed here with 2 other couples and found it to be the perfect size and location. We walked to Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant most mornings for breakfast then across to the waterfront. The photos don't do the home justice. The decor of the house is lovely, there is an extremely warm gas fireplace, and the bedroom arrangements are perfect for a small family or 3 couples. The upstairs master bedroom was wonderful, with a private balcony overlooking the wooded lot. The loft area with a futon is right outside the master bedroom upstairs, so it might be good for those with small children, assuming you could block the stairs. Even with being close to town, it still feels very private and quiet. The outside deck is quite large and would be great for family meals or just enjoying the peaceful setting. There is plenty of parking for the home as well. Our only complaint was the outside "stairway" you have to climb to reach the front door, which is really just a steep mulch ramp with occasional stepping stones. This is the only way to reach the front door of the home and my 65 year old mother had some trouble traversing it. Unless the owner fixes this, it would seem something to be cautious of for those traveling with the elderly or disabled. We would highly recommend this home for young to middle age groups who want a decent size home in a location that's walking distance to downtown Sister Bay, but still crave peace & quiet."
