This charming lake view house is located in Soda Springs just 10 miles before Truckee. Lake access is a hop across the street with no barriers! A green belt sits between the lake and our home. With amazing deck views of Serene Lakes as well as the Sierra Nevada, you can relax and breathe fresh mountain air on our large deck that can easily fit your entire group. If you are coming from the Bay Area, it is a fabulous location as it is less of a drive and minus the noise and traffic of Lake Tahoe. This very friendly family orientated community is perfect for family retreats or just getting together with good friends. With plenty to do in both summer and winter, outdoor enthusiasts will love it here!

Literally just behind the house is North America's largest cross-country ski resort, Royal Gorge. Fantastic sledding is conveniently available along the side of our property. Multiple downhill ski resorts are just minutes away! From Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Resort, Soda Springs Ski Resort to Boreal. Northstar and Squaw Valley USA are just a little further! In addition, we have cross-country skis and boots available for your use as well as sleds for closer to home activities.

Summertime is just as spectacular with activities such as bike riding (bikes available at the house), strolls around the lake (2 miles), swimming, fishing, laying out on the beach (sand toys and umbrella available), canoeing (yours to use and parked conveniently on the lake shore), kayaking (one man kayak located in the garage), BBQing on the deck, hiking, and much more!

So whether you are looking for outdoor excitement or just want to relax, our home will offer you an exceptional experience that you won't forget!

About Cynthia Capone

We currently live in the Bay Area and enjoy the outdoors. We are a family of 4. Living in the Bay Area, we feel it's important to slow things down whenever we get the chance! Visiting the Sierras has always been an enjoyment for us and something we hope to share with our children for many years.

Cynthia Capone purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Cynthia Capone chose Serene Lakes

Having known next to nothing about the Serene Lakes area, we agreed to visit a friend who recently purchased a cabin there. We instantly fell in love and decided to buy a place just down the street. It works out so well for us since we love the outdoors but also enjoy the serenity this place has to offer. It's a few hours outside the Bay Area but just far enough away from the madness at Lake Tahoe. We love it here and especially the fact that it accommodates large groups! So many memories....

What makes this cabin unique

There are so many activities that we end up doing throughout the year on our visits. There's downhill skiing, sledding, crosscountry skiing, bike riding, running, rollerblading, hiking, walking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, and of course overeating! However, the main goal is to relax and take in the fresh air with good friends and family!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you SO very much for renting us your home -- we had a terrific time, despite the little amounts of snow. We've been renting houses up in the Serene Lakes area for several years and we all agreed, your home was the best, hands down -- it's a great location, funky layout that actually works, incredibly well-stocked (generously and thoughtfully).....

Thanks again - we hope to stay there again sometime this winter. Will be in touch!

The property had incredible views! Perfect place for our big family

  • 5 of 5

Our family has spent time in Tahoe for the past 13 years. We love it, but every year it is more congested. We were ready for a more quiet experience. This was the perfect spot!! None of us wanted to leave after our 6 day stay. Our family of 15 ranging in ages from 6 to 69 loved every minute. There was something for everyone. Our 4 grandsons had the perfect spot to sleep in the bunk loft. And 3 teenage granddaughters had their privacy in the downstairs "apt.".

This property has beautiful, serene views of the lake. The kids loved the forest area surrounding the house. The teenagers and young adults loved the kayak and canoe. The swim beach is within a 5 minute walk and there is a great hike behind the house.

The owners were so easy to deal with and quick to respond to any issues. (only a minor hot water issue from previous renters and a screen door needing attention). The house has everything you need, including bikes and scooters for the kids. We were amazed at the generosity of the Capone family in providing "toys". We highly recommend this property....although would selfishly love to keep it our little secret.

It's such a great area and like you said, something that you almost want to keep secret. We hope to hear from you again and hope you have a really nice rest of your summer!

Great location for summer family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Capone's Lake Getaway for our recent family reunion. Serene Lakes is a tranquil alpine lake located in the Sierras. We had a great stay at Capone's Lake Getaway. There were plenty of bedrooms and were pleasantly surprised that they were actually larger than the impression we had received from the pictures. There was also an enclosed loft (very safe and quiet) that the grandchildren slept in. House is right across the street from the lake and we were able to easily use kayak & canoe. Community beach is a quiet 5 minute walk down the road. Owners were very responsive to our questions even though they were, at the time, on vacation themselves. Would definitely consider going back to this property in the future.

Great location!

  • 3 of 5

This place is located just opposite to a lake and it's really located in a wonderful location. The place has all utilities like kayak, bikes, beach chairs, ski, etc for outdoor activities. Foosball was really fun. Has media systems like Apple TV and DVD players. However, Apple TV was disconnecting frequently. Great place that accommodates 15 people easily and comfortably. Top floor has bunker beds and they are arranged very nicely. Nice kitchen and ample space at the patio. Enjoyed BBQ.

I would've given 5 but there are couple of things that our group didn't like.

1) As soon as we enter the cottage, it was smelly. I am not sure what was that smell but we didn't like the smell.

2) There were few mosquitoes. insects and ants in the house.

3) Patio was not clean, especially the BBQ equipment.

Overall, we had a great time with the group! Thanks!!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for leaving feedback. We're glad you had a nice time and enjoyed the house. Sorry about the smell as we just replaced the carpet for the entire house so it is brand new and has a strange smell. I was hoping it would dissipate within a month but maybe it just needs some airing out for a whole weekend. As far as bugs, this time of the year in June seems to be when they are most prevalent. It's really important to try to keep doors closed or use screens when possible to keep these little critters from entering the house. Lastly, the patio is a tough one. Throughout the week, there is pollen and leaves dropping and wind blowing so it tends to gather on the deck even when it has been blown the day before. I will have the housecleaner keep a better eye on it, but I suspect much of it depends on the weather conditions and how close to check-in the deck blowing occurs. Thanks again for renting with us and hope you have a nice summer.

Very comfortable getaway for a big group!

  • 4 of 5

I wanted to say thank you for allowing us to rent your comfortable home for a few days. Everyone had a great time even though it rained a little on Sunday. We had plenty of tools in the kitchen to cook for 12, the grill and kitchen appliances worked great, and everyone loved the huge dining table. One of my nieces learned to ride a bike on Saturday and Sunday thanks to the flat, empty streets of the neighborhood. The kids and some of the adults enjoyed the canoe, kayak, and the foosball table. We love having family come to visit us, but our home is not big enough to hold everyone. Thank you again for making yours available to us!

Winter wonderland for extended family!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful getaway for our large extended family. The size and layout works well for our group from 8 years old to 80. We built sled runs and several snow forts around the house. High elevation and proximity to downhill & cross-country make this our favorite winter weekend.
