About the property

Cabin, 5 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 15)

This charming lake view house is located in Soda Springs just 10 miles before Truckee. Lake access is a hop across the street with no barriers! A green belt sits between the lake and our home. With amazing deck views of Serene Lakes as well as the Sierra Nevada, you can relax and breathe fresh mountain air on our large deck that can easily fit your entire group. If you are coming from the Bay Area, it is a fabulous location as it is less of a drive and minus the noise and traffic of Lake Tahoe. This very friendly family orientated community is perfect for family retreats or just getting together with good friends. With plenty to do in both summer and winter, outdoor enthusiasts will love it here!

Literally just behind the house is North America's largest cross-country ski resort, Royal Gorge. Fantastic sledding is conveniently available along the side of our property. Multiple downhill ski resorts are just minutes away! From Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Resort, Soda Springs Ski Resort to Boreal. Northstar and Squaw Valley USA are just a little further! In addition, we have cross-country skis and boots available for your use as well as sleds for closer to home activities.

Summertime is just as spectacular with activities such as bike riding (bikes available at the house), strolls around the lake (2 miles), swimming, fishing, laying out on the beach (sand toys and umbrella available), canoeing (yours to use and parked conveniently on the lake shore), kayaking (one man kayak located in the garage), BBQing on the deck, hiking, and much more!

So whether you are looking for outdoor excitement or just want to relax, our home will offer you an exceptional experience that you won't forget!

About Cynthia Capone

We currently live in the Bay Area and enjoy the outdoors. We are a family of 4. Living in the Bay Area, we feel it's important to slow things down whenever we get the chance! Visiting the Sierras has always been an enjoyment for us and something we hope to share with our children for many years.

Cynthia Capone purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Cynthia Capone chose Serene Lakes

Having known next to nothing about the Serene Lakes area, we agreed to visit a friend who recently purchased a cabin there. We instantly fell in love and decided to buy a place just down the street. It works out so well for us since we love the outdoors but also enjoy the serenity this place has to offer. It's a few hours outside the Bay Area but just far enough away from the madness at Lake Tahoe. We love it here and especially the fact that it accommodates large groups! So many memories....

What makes this cabin unique

There are so many activities that we end up doing throughout the year on our visits. There's downhill skiing, sledding, crosscountry skiing, bike riding, running, rollerblading, hiking, walking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, and of course overeating! However, the main goal is to relax and take in the fresh air with good friends and family!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you SO very much for renting us your home -- we had a terrific time, despite the little amounts of snow. We've been renting houses up in the Serene Lakes area for several years and we all agreed, your home was the best, hands down -- it's a great location, funky layout that actually works, incredibly well-stocked (generously and thoughtfully).....

Thanks again - we hope to stay there again sometime this winter. Will be in touch!

Great place for multi- generations

  • 5 of 5

This is the 4th time we have stayed here with children and grandchildren and each time they beg to come back. The house is large, comfortable beds, great view from the deck of the lake across the street. There's plenty of kitchen dishes etc to cook for groups up to 15. The owners are very helpful if anything breaks. The location is great for young kids learning to skate or ride bikes and the lake is quiet, no motors. For the mountains the water is swimmable We are going back next year

Large, comfortable, great location and play equipment, a little worn

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful location on the lake, great outdoor toys- sleds, bikes, beach play stuff and boats. We were able to bike, boat, hike, play at the beach and still build a small sled run on the hill behind the house on a 4th of July weekend. Plenty of beds for a big group. The kitchen & dining areas are a bit tight- can't take many cooks, but adjacent living room and deck seating helps.

The house shows some wear- screen door sticks, carpets are old, and most notably, due presumably to groundwater seepage from the very wet winter and spring melt, the downstairs had fans running and a smell of mildew when we arrived. It aired out ok though. No AC, but the house stayed pretty cool despite daytime highs ~80F. Beds were comfortable and linens clean.

Beautiful neighborhood for a family getaway, and a house large enough to fit a good group.

Owner's Response: Yes, the 2016-17 winter had record snow. As a result there was some water that seeped up under the concrete slab in the workshop and game room. In the decade plus that we've owned the house, we never had this issue before. All is well now. We also did a bit of work this fall. We had all new carpets installed throughout the house as well as upgraded parts of the kitchen and dining room. We look forward to your future visit and are glad you had a good time.

Second stay - even better!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we've booked Cynthia and Richard's cabin for group ski trips. The kids had a great time playing outside as well as having their own loft. The adults enjoyed the space, the good heaters, the well-outfitted kitchen, and the proximity of skiing and tubing.
