Serene Lakes Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 5 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 15)

This charming lake view house is located in Soda Springs just 10 miles before Truckee. Lake access is a hop across the street with no barriers! A green belt sits between the lake and our home. With amazing deck views of Serene Lakes as well as the Sierra Nevada, you can relax and breathe fresh mountain air on our large deck that can easily fit your entire group. If you are coming from the Bay Area, it is a fabulous location as it is less of a drive and minus the noise and traffic of Lake Tahoe. This very friendly family orientated community is perfect for family retreats or just getting together with good friends. With plenty to do in both summer and winter, outdoor enthusiasts will love it here!

Literally just behind the house is North America's largest cross-country ski resort, Royal Gorge. Fantastic sledding is conveniently available along the side of our property. Multiple downhill ski resorts are just minutes away! From Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Resort, Soda Springs Ski Resort to Boreal. Northstar and Squaw Valley USA are just a little further! In addition, we have cross-country skis and boots available for your use as well as sleds for closer to home activities.

Summertime is just as spectacular with activities such as bike riding (bikes available at the house), strolls around the lake (2 miles), swimming, fishing, laying out on the beach (sand toys and umbrella available), canoeing (yours to use and parked conveniently on the lake shore), kayaking (one man kayak located in the garage), BBQing on the deck, hiking, and much more!

So whether you are looking for outdoor excitement or just want to relax, our home will offer you an exceptional experience that you won't forget!

About Cynthia Capone

We currently live in the Bay Area and enjoy the outdoors. We are a family of 4. Living in the Bay Area, we feel it's important to slow things down whenever we get the chance! Visiting the Sierras has always been an enjoyment for us and something we hope to share with our children for many years.

Cynthia Capone purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Cynthia Capone chose Soda Springs

Having known next to nothing about the Serene Lakes area, we agreed to visit a friend who recently purchased a cabin there. We instantly fell in love and decided to buy a place just down the street. It works out so well for us since we love the outdoors but also enjoy the serenity this place has to offer. It's a few hours outside the Bay Area but just far enough away from the madness at Lake Tahoe. We love it here and especially the fact that it accommodates large groups! So many memories....

What makes this cabin unique

There are so many activities that we end up doing throughout the year on our visits. There's downhill skiing, sledding, crosscountry skiing, bike riding, running, rollerblading, hiking, walking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, and of course overeating! However, the main goal is to relax and take in the fresh air with good friends and family!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you SO very much for renting us your home -- we had a terrific time, despite the little amounts of snow. We've been renting houses up in the Serene Lakes area for several years and we all agreed, your home was the best, hands down -- it's a great location, funky layout that actually works, incredibly well-stocked (generously and thoughtfully).....

Thanks again - we hope to stay there again sometime this winter. Will be in touch!

Cozy large cabin in a great location.

  • 3 of 5

The house is very cozy and large enough that everyone had a great time there. The house comes with a lot of amenities but it's a little bit on the older side. There was an additional $120 linen fee that was not advertised. I don't understand why a home wouldn't have clean linen available to begin with and still they didn't put linen on 2 of the rooms. Overall we still had a great time at the house.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. We are glad you had a nice visit and hope to hear from you again. I apologize for not making the linen service very clear. Originally I had it listed just under Amenities (under Additional Info) and our Contract Agreement, however, I did go back in and added it to several other places in our description as to help clarify things. We appreciate your comments as it helps us improve our service to our future guests.

Great cabin

  • 5 of 5

The location is really nice, the cabin is well equipped with pretty much everything you'll need, there's plenty of space and the furnishings are comfortable.

We had three families together for a long weekend with kids ranging in age from toddlers to teenagers. Everyone had a good time boating on the lakes, watching the meteor showers at night, hanging out and enjoying good company. We saw a bald eagle land on the tree in front of the house and also an osprey over the lake and many ducks and geese on the water.

The owner was very responsive and great to work with.

It would be great to come back in Winter.

Great spot for our family reunion

  • 4 of 5

House worked well for us with kids/cousins in the loft and adults in bedrooms. One of the downstairs bedrooms had no window, so no natural light or fresh air. The open living room/dining room/kitchen area was cozy and where we spent most of the time when we were in the house. Enjoyed evening cocktails on the deck until the mosquitoes drove us inside.

Great location for many adventures during the day - an easy walk to the Serene Lake beach for even the little kids, quick access to hiking trail to Cascade Peak, and close enough to Truckee for groceries/shopping/ice cream, day trip to Squaw Valley for the tram ride, hike along the PCT near Sugar Bowl, and swim in Long Lake. Easy access to trains and hearing them pass through Soda Springs was a plus for at least one in our party. Such a great location.

Nice to have use of the beach toys, bicycles, canoe, and kayak. We made good use of them all.

Great place to stay!

  • 4 of 5

We just spent the week up in Tahoe skiing at Sugar Bowl. We were three families and this was a great house that met our needs well. There was plenty of room for all of us. The teens enjoyed the loft and my 11 year old loved sledding down the hill right beside the house. The owner was very responsive. We plan to stay here again!
