Exceeded my expectations
We stayed at the villa for 3 nights and hosted out wedding there. Our guests are still talking about how exquisite the location was. The team were wonderful in supporting us through the wedding, even when vendors cancelled last minute and ensuring that we had a pleasant and relaxing stay on the days before and after the wedding. Thank you everyone
Amazing Vacation at Villa Gilgal
We stayed at Villa Gilgal June 16-23, 2018 with a total of 8 adults. From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the beauty of the property and the service of the staff. We were warmly greeted with cool towels and welcome drinks, given a tour (the photos online are beautiful but it is stunning in person), changed into our swimsuits and started our vacation. The house is a 5 star resort in every way. The staff are wonderful and are there to do anything you want but are never intrusive. There was room for 8 adults to be together to watch a World Cup game in the living room but also to find a place for solitude when we wanted. Thank you George (who was at the house to greet us when we arrived, checked on us throughout our stay and arranged an excursion and dinner reservations at a great restaurant, Pushcart in Negril), Katie (who was an awesome butler and helped us plan our days and threw a lovely party to celebrate my daughter’s college graduation) Sasha, O’Neill and Chef Dave! We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to come back! If you are thinking of booking this house don’t hesitate, it was amazing in every way!
house is amazing, staff out of this world
this home is beautiful, lots of steps but still beautiful
paradise by the sea
Villa Gilgal is an amazing place. You can see from the photos that it includes beautiful grounds, an amazing pool, huge covered porch, dining pavilion by the sea, and steps down into the water for snorkeling/swimming. But what you can't see is the attentive staff, which makes it so much more than a beautiful house. David the chef will prepare Jamaican food (delicious!) for breakfast and dinner each day. He will take you to the local grocery store, farmer's market and fish/lobster market to select the best fresh ingredients. He will tell you all kinds of fun facts about the area and tour you around the local towns. Germain takes care of your every need and thinks of lovely surprises such as fresh coconuts from the trees on the property, served out by the pool for their water and their pulp (in drinks!). He will drive you to outings such as the Black River safari and the waterfall park. He is just wonderful. There are more on the team who keep the house clean and beautiful, and open it to the sunny weather each morning. There are blender drinks by the pool (love the swim-up bar!) and music played around the house and grounds. Breakfast by the sea every morning was the best way to start the day, and we won't forget the beautiful fish we saw as we went snorkeling right off the back patio. The house comes stocked with soap, shampoo, kitchen supplies, pool toys, and a large crossover vehicle for driving you around (daily charge, very reasonable). Realize it's about 1.5 hours' drive from Montego Bay, but well worth it when you emerge on the serene and beautiful south coast. Thanks, George, Tina, and all the house staff!
Beautiful location, amazing house & best staff ever!
After spending one week at the villa, all we could say is "when can we go back". The house and view are truly amazing. But by far the best thing was the staff. Jermaine, Dave & Oneil made the week unforgettable. Jermaine is truly a Jamaican jewel!
From planning to finish it was a great vacation. George was very responsive to all inquiries and request and responded to all emails in a timely manner. Upon arrival we were greeted by the entire staff and welcomed into the beautifully appointed home. The view from the back of the house is postcard worthy. Pictures simply cannot do it justice. Everything was better than expected, from poolside drinks to top quality beds and linens, we could not have asked for more.
One of the best things about the villa is the staff. We never felt like we didn't have privacy yet Jermaine found a way to make sure we always had what we needed. Dave made delicious meals and Oneil was an incredible DJ. They made the vacation truly special.
We cannot say much about the area or activities, as we barely left the home. But we can say we have already recommended the villa to others and plan to return one day, hopefully sooner than later.
Fantastic destination house with wonderful staff
I really can't say enough about Villa Gilgal. We spent a week here with friends, 8 of us in total. None of us had been to Jamaica before, but we've stayed in several houses in other Caribbean destinations. I can say unequivocally that this is THE BEST experience we've had.
The house is owned by George, who originally hails from Jamaica but now lives in New York. He completed renovations on the house recently and it's clear he has excellent taste. Luckily George was in town when we arrived so he proudly showed us around.
George has assembled an amazing staff to take care of every need: Junior handles security and was our go-to for any issues we had during our stay (e.g., when our four kids all got ear infections, Junior made arrangements to have them seen by a local physician; when I needed to get cash and the two cash machines in White House were broken, he drove me to a neighboring town to get cash.) If you want an adrenaline rush, have him drive you somewhere. He's got some Dale Earnhardt in his blood. Jermaine was our elegant and big-hearted butler who always made sure we had a smile on our face. He makes incredible drinks, serves meals with panache, makes incredibly creative towel animals, and generally pampers you like you're at a 5-star resort. David (real name Paul) is the chef who prepared us UNBELIEVABLE breakfasts and dinners. No holds barred. 100% authentic. Breakfasts featured eggs, johnny cakes, pancakes, plantains, callaloo, ackee and salt fish, tropical fruits. Dinners included oxtail, goat, lobster, red snapper, and jerk chicken. We are foodies and we were in heaven. The kids loved the food, too. We have never eaten so well in the Caribbean.
The house is itself is breathtaking. It's a double-lot with tons of west-facing beach frontage which yields incredible sunset views. The pool is very nice with ample room to stretch out on lounge chairs and there's a swim-up bar where we had many excellent tropical drinks. The grounds are also impeccably maintained (beautiful trees, green grass, flowering bushes) and we delighted in having leisurely breakfasts outside overlooking the ocean.
Let me say it was very hard to leave. We'll definitely be back!
