Hale Moana, House of the Sea, is our ocean front home on the beautiful rural North Shore of Oahu. A flight of 10 sturdy steps takes you from our grassy lawn to the lovely beach. The ever-changing, half-mile-long beach is perfect for exploring, swimming, snorkeling and stand up paddling (SUP) in the summer. Hawaiian green sea turtles are often spotted swimming and sometimes sunning on the beach.
Humpback whales winter in Hawaii and are often spotted in the distance from our yard. Some of the world's best surfers also gather during this season to slide across the North Shore's amazing and famous waves. Popular Chun's Reef and Alligator's surf breaks are just steps away and you can enjoy a glass of wine and watch surfers backlit by beautiful sunsets right from our back yard.
At Hale Moana we are witness to the impressive and fascinating interaction of land and sea. The shoreline may dramatically change from summer to winter, year to year. The tides, currents, waves and wind are constantly rearranging the beach, and sand levels will vary significantly and unpredictably over time.
Our vacation rental home is licensed by the City and County of Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting (since 1987). Second floor owner's room is always vacant and locked off during your stay.
All rooms have ocean views and are beautifully decorated Hawaiian style. The home sleeps four to six guests. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and two twin beds in the second bedroom can be converted into one king-sized bed. The den/TV room has a queen-sized sofa bed (queen size Aero-Bed also available). Main bathroom has separate shower and bathtub. An additional shower, toilet and basin is located in the garage. The garage shower is convenient when coming in from the beach. Cooking is a pleasure in the ocean view kitchen with glass cabinet doors, ceramic stove top and Corian countertops. Connect your laptop and mobile devices with our wireless broadband. For added relaxation the library provides many book choices. The flat screen TV has HD cable channels, including HBO, ESPN, an HD-DVR and a DVD player and library.
The beautifully landscaped yard is great for sunbathing, barbecuing, sunset watching and turtle spotting.
Nearby Historic Haleiwa town has surf and clothing shops, art galleries and wonderful restaurants. World famous Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and Banzai Pipeline are nearby. Visit Hawaii's Number One visitor attraction, the Polynesian Cultural Center. Everything has been thought of to make your vacation stay at Hale Moana relaxing and memorable.
The North Shore is known world wide for its dramatic winter surf. Be aware that swimming in most places during big wave season is best left to experts and children should be closely supervised. In the winter, when the big waves are breaking, put your feet up on our wall and watch the spectacular surfing show.
Our fenced and tree lined property is set between the road and the sea. Our guests find that the sights and sounds of the ocean easily win their attention and hearts. Please check out many years of favorable guest comments at our website at beachhawaii.

Highly recommend Hale Moana house on the North Shore of Oahu!
Our family of 4 stayed at Hale Moana for 4 days during the middle of May. First trip to Hawaii for us. The house was wonderful with large picture windows off the living room, a comfortable beach-side front lawn for watching the ocean and swimming green turtles, snorkeling at the rock reef just down the beach a short ways, an outside shower for rinsing off after being on the beach, and clear instructions on using the house and nearby activities which included: Turtle Beach - where we saw 45 yr old turtle napping on the sand and talked to volunteer turtle guardians who provided a wealth of information on turtles; Waimea Valley hike to and swim at the waterfall; visit to Polynesian Cultural Center - although a bit pricey; and eating at local restaurants and food trucks). We slept like babies to the sound of the ocean surf. Should have stayed longer at Hale Moana than busy Maui!
Ann, I'm delighted your family had a wonderful time. I know how long you had been planning this trip to Hawaii. Thank you for the positive comments about our home. We appreciate your taking the time to share your Hawaiian adventure with us, and please come again. Mahalo and Aloha, Sandi
Vintage home in best location on North Shore
According to information provided by the owner, Sandi, this place was built shortly after WW2. It’s ocean front on a bay between 2 small sand points. This stretch of beach has many multi million dollar homes. Although it has 3 bedroooms I’d recommend this place for a couple or a couple with kids. One of the bedrooms is nicer than the others so if 2 or 3 couples shared the home somebody might feel shortchanged. The wall facing the ocean is all glass...and has lovely old, wood sliders. When you open those doors you step out onto a covered patio, ideal for wave or sunset watching while sipping cocktails. Beyond the patio is the ocean front lawn. As you sit in the living room on the leather couch, sit on the patio, or on the lawn you can watch Cardinals with their bright red combs land on the lawn. If there are waves during your stay you can watch surfers. During our stay there were nice uncrowded waves out front. They looked very Longboardable and forgiving. If you look to the left you can see people riding at Chun’s Reef. The kitchen has all the pots and pans and everything else you’ll need as a chef. Foodland is a short drive north and they have good fresh food. For restaurants you’ll need to drive around 15 minutes south to Haleiwa. It’s a nice drive and the restaurants are good. We liked Haleiwa Joe’s. Coming back to the house, after dinner, in the dark it can be hard to spot the house from the road because it’s so dark. So use your GPS to avoid getting a little flustered. If fluorescent lights bother you I’d recommend that you bring lots of candles for romantic lighting. All and all we had a wonderful time at the house.
It was a amazing house
Nice place, nice house, wunderfull sunset. Very good communication between sandy. We plan our next trip to north shore and we would like to stay here again.
This is the best place with the best location to stay at on the North Shore pipeline.
This is our third trip back to this house we love it so much.
The whole house has big sliding window doors that open up so even when your inside it feels like your right on the beach.
Sandi is very nice and accommodating, the housekeeping is impeccable, and the air conditioned king bedroom is a big plus for sleeping at night as well.
Cant recommend it enough.
Thanks so much for your lovely review. We enjoy your visits so much, and feel like you are friends. Please keep in touch and return when you can. We know how much you love the islands.
Mahalo nui loa,
Fantastic stay. House is right on the beach clean and well equipped. Beautiful
We stayed for 7 nights in this lovely beach house. The house itself is just a basic house but the whole front opens up to make you feel at one with the ocean. The beds are comfortable and have lovely clean and comfortable bedding. One thing I was so impressed with were the white fluffy hotel grade bath towels. Everything supplied in this house is quality.
The ocean is a few steps away down a staircase at the end of the section. We were here in April and there were rocks in front of the house but plenty of swimming at either side. It was quite rough when we first got there but then settled and we had lovely swims in the little lagoon area to the right and a more vigorous swim to the left. Both were great fun. There are also beautiful beaches just up the road. We spent a lot of time checking them all out and also enjoyed spending the day on the beach at Turtle Bay Resort.
The food shacks were incredible but we ate at home for most of our dinners as the house was so well equipped. You could not ask for more. Sandi has thought of everything from batterries and torches to beach chairs and snorkles. All the basics are supplied in the kitchen as well as every cleaning agent you could need.
There is ample outdoor furniture to lounge on the front lawn and sit and watch the ocean and sunsets.
There is a great walk to the left of Sunset Elementary School called Pillbox. Way less tourist like then Waimea Bay Falls and a beautiful view at the top.
All in all it was just fantatstic. When we first arrived I was concerned about being so close to the main road but the noise soon gets drowned out by the ocean and you don't even notice it.
Sandi was a great communicator and you felt like nothing was a problem.
Would definately stay again.
Thank you for your honest and detailed review. It is reviews like yours that really help potential guests know what our home and beach are like. I really appreciate your accurate assessment of Hale Moana and the helpful information you included about the area near our home. Mahalo nui loa, and please come again.
The perfect place to stay on the North Shore
From whales, surfers, fishermen and snorkelers in the morning to the beautiful sunset at night this is the perfect North Shore property. House has a wonderful beach just steps away and a perfect spot to snorkel and swim yards away. It is well stocked with everything you need for the beach and the kitchen is well furnished to do all your cooking right at home. The yard is also nicely landscaped which adds to the Hawaiian vibe. It is an easy 45 minute drive from the airport and there are many beaches and attractions close by for daytime outings. The owner makes you feel welcomed right away which adds to the comfort of the home.
It’s hard to say goodbye to this place at the end of a holiday.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I'm delighted you enjoyed the beach and were able to swim and snorkel in March. I'm glad you found everything you needed to cook at home. Thank you for your kind comments. I do try very hard to make my guests feel welcome. Please visit again. Mahalo nui loa, Sandi
