Near Acadia National Park, this private 300 acre lakefront cottage property is a unique vacation. All rooms have magnificent views of the beach, lake and mountains. Perfect for families who enjoy beach activities or for a quiet remote 'get-a-way.' Located adjacent to 38,000-acre land preservation on a minimally developed lake.
In 1994 we gifted 7500 acres of the property to the State of Maine for a State land reserve. We kept out the 300 acre peninsula surrounded by the land reserve, where the three cabins are located. The surrounding area is an undiscovered wilderness. The hiking is incredible with tremendous views of Down east Maine and Acadia National Park. There are many remote lakes and ponds snuggled in the hills that provide total privacy. In addition, Acadia National Park is only a short drive away and can easily be visited for a day or afternoon.
Spring River Lake and the other surrounding lakes, ponds, and mountains are minimally developed if developed at all. Our peninsula has several additional private beaches within a couple minutes walking distance. Directly in front of the rental cottage is a 1000-foot long soft sandy beach with beautiful swimming. The cottage has a mile long gated private driveway, allowing for considerable privacy.
The cottage is fully furnished and decorated in cottage style, yet comfortable. It is very clean and well maintained with electricity and plumbing. It is heated by large fireplace, electric baseboards, and kitchen wood stove.
The large property also has Homeaway listing #4017223 and #102874.
The property and the surrounding area are very dear to me and my family. In 1994 we donated thousands of acres to the State of Maine for a Maine State Land Reserve which is now enjoyed and respected by enthusiastic visitors. We work hard to keep our remaining private peninsula pristine and in complete respect to the natural beauty of the area. Andrew grew up in the Bangor and Downeast area and has a strong connection to the Acadia region.
Andrew Pierce purchased this cottage in 1933
The large private property has Homeaway listings #102874 and #4017223.
Over all area: Two proximal reserves have been designated here: 1,940 acres east of Donnell Pond and 4,274 acres northeast of Spring River Lake. The mountains and lakes formed by the Tunk Mountain Pluton constitute one of the most distinctive landmarks of the East Coastal Region. The two reserves include mid-elevation (~1,000 foot) summits of Tunk Mountain, Black Mountain, and Caribou Mountain as well as Tilden Pond, and Little Long Pond.

The State’s best private beach, cleanest water and swimming, fantastic views and sunsets, well maintained cottage and the proximity to the Maine coast. A perfect romantic get-a-way or a memorable family Maine woods, lake and coastal experience!
The cabins were perfect! Quiet, private and well kept. Plenty of things to do in and around the lake. The water is crystal clear and the fishing, kayaking and canoeing kept the kids entertained all week. If you want a place to unwind away from it all and relax, This is paradise! What a great experience!
Don't just go see Maine foliage and wildlife, live in it for a week. This cabin is warm, comfortable and convenient to Acadia National Park, Lubec and Ellsworth. We will be back.
My wife and I along with our two dogs stayed in the Three Bears Cabin. The cabin was very clean and spacious. The kitchen had all the necessary items including a lobster pot that we used for the lobsters we bought at the shore in Milbridge. We loved having coffee on the deck in the morning while our dogs ran down to the sandy beach for a quick swim. It was great to have canoes and kayaks to use which we used most days to get around the lake. Clear water, sandy beaches, and mountain views made for an enjoyable week. There's several hikes nearby and Catherine Hill Winery is right up the road. If you want to get away (no cable, no TV and no cell service on the property) and unplug, this cabin is definitely a great choice. We will be back to Down East Maine.
There are two kinds of vacations- ones where you go, go, go, and ones where you just relax. This was one of the most relaxing weeks we've had in a long time. The cabin was spacious and clean- plenty of room for the two of us. The beach and the lake were just a few steps away- the beach was spotless and the water clear and delightful. It was a week spent reading, talking, knitting, eating seafood, exploring the lakes (there are a bunch around!), hiking up Tunk Mt. (you can see Cadillac Mt. from the top!), swimming, fishing, and exploring the coast. We went to Acadia a couple of days, and it was so crowded that we couldn't wait to get back to the solitude of Spring River Lake...
Andrew (the owner) and Bob (the caretaker) were great to work with- prompt and responsive when I had questions.
If you are looking for non-stop excitement- go to Disneyworld. If you are looking to spend a week living life the way it was meant to be- fresh air, exercise, good food, restful nights, and a fire in the fireplace when the sun goes down...stay at Andrew's cabin. I guarantee you will NOT want to return to work the following Monday.
Simply a beautiful location and excellent accommodations -- a beautiful strip of lakeside Maine property at the north edge of Acadia National Park.
My wife's family, her sister's family, and their 40-year-ago childhood friends (and parts of their respective families) enjoyed a fabulous week here in mid-July 2016. We actually rented all three of the cabins on this private cove on Spring River Lake, and we had that whole end of the lake to ourselves. And we had a ball.
The lake was a beautiful, clear-water, rough-sand beach setting, with plenty of "toys" available such as kayaks, canoes, a floaty raft, and beach chairs/umbrellas. On one day we all paddled over to the opposite end of the lake and played on the "jumping rock"; but on most days we just chilled and chatted and splashed in the gently sloping water in our own private cove! The drive to Acadia isn't much longer than the drive to the grocery store -- what a beautiful area of the country.
The cabins were well-designed and reasonably appointed. Some of the dishes/dinnerware could stand to be updated, but everything was clean and generally had everything we needed. The general feel was "rustic" more than "elegant" but this is exactly what we were after. The local hiking (esp. Tunk Mountain) was fabulous.
The cabin owner was generous with contributing his 'local knowledge' of the lake, cabins, and surrounding community/history with us. Communication was flawless before, during, and after the rental and was in no way overbearing. Response time to phone calls or emails was always within 24 hours. The information binders provided at the cabins were well-written and helpful.
We did have a few problems with ants in one of the cabins, but we brought this up to the caretaker and he addressed it promptly and effectively. Also, while we were lucky to be enjoying all three cabins together this week, I imagine some of the pure bliss might have been lost if we didn't have the whole cove to ourselves. But the cabins are very nicely spaced, at least 100 yards apart, so I don't think this would have greatly diminished the charm of the site.
We had a great week at these lovely lakeside cabins, and will cherish the family/friend togetherness it fostered for years to come. We strongly recommend them to others.
Like a lot of families these days, it seems that our lives have become both very hectic and media-driven (between iPads, iPhones and television). So, we agreed that it would be good for us to take our son(6) and daughter (9) to a place where we could slow down, turn off all of the electronics, appreciate one another's company and get back to nature. After a lot of online searching, we came across Andrew's wonderful property on Spring River Lake. The booking was very simple. Andrew answered all of our various questions prior to our arrival and we were warmly welcomed by Andrew and the property's excellent caretaker, Bob.
The cottage was immaculate with everything a family of four could want. The kids loved their attic bedrooms, while we enjoyed the first floor master bedroom. The large family rooms was a great space to sent on the couch and read, talk or or play games as a family, while the kitchen's eating area provided great views out to the lake.
We spent our days exploring the lake on the various kayaks provided. Our kids have never kayaked, but fell in love it immediately and paddled for hours on end each day on the kid kayaks that are very easy to maneuver. My daughter dove for mussels in the nearby cove, as we all swam and jumped off the floating dock. A boathouse on the beach provided everything we needed, from life jackets to fishing poles, to toys for the kids to play with. The water was clear and refreshing (not too cold, not too warm). The nearby Tunk Mountain provided a nice hike, while a short kayak trip across the lake the the Jumping Rock provided a bit of adventure.
On some nights, the cottage was cool enough to light a fire in the wood-burrning fireplace, which served as an excellent source for s'mores. Most nights we cooked our own dinners, but got takeout one night from the nearby 182 Pizza (which was awesome), and freshly made chicken tenders from the Irving gas station (I know, food from a gas station, but believe me, the chicken is handmade on-site and really good).
Bar Harbor and Acadia are just a short drive away, so it's easy to make a day trip and still be home to watch the sunset. One night we walked on to the beach to see the million stars overhead, and even saw a few shooting stars.
I was afraid that the reality of the cottage and site wouldn't live up to my mental image of the perfect family vacation. Luckily, it exceeded it. We can't wait to come back.
Ideal spot to relax while enjoying Maine's seacoast, Acadia and surrounding wilderness. One-of-a-kind beach! Few if any completely private fresh water beaches exist like this in New England, especially with such easy access to Acadia National Park and other immediate natural adventures.
Other Activities: All motorless water sports. HIKING. KAYAKING
