Warm & welcoming - A beautiful, peaceful, nature retreat!
Plenty of room with 3 levels, each with their own bath and fireplace. The wrap around deck and hot tub were enjoyed by all as was the rustic living room, filled with comfy rockers. This is a lovely location where all guests felt at home. Already looking to return in the summer! We loved our time there!
We rented this house for a family reunion/the great eclipse of 2017. It's a spacious home that sleeps 10—perfect for what we intended—however, there were a few hiccups.
First, the house is for sale. So, this review probably won't matter for much longer. In case those plans change, here are a few things you need to know:
The owner of the property visited daily, if not several times a day. We did have some air conditioning issues that warranted his attendance, however, even beyond the quirky AC unit, he made a point to visit the home often on his off-roader.
Basic amenities such as dish soap, a sponge or dish towel, hair dryers, working TVs were not provided. Lacking dish soap and a dish towel to wash made meal clean up exceptionally difficult. And, since we were only there a few days, we weren't trying to go shopping for basic cleaning products.
Both porches don't have adequate seating. There were two chairs (one makeshift) on the top deck and nothing on the bottom. So much for spending time outdoors. And, the garden space was overgrown and snakey. I guess since it's for sale they're given up on maintaining.
The one bedroom with twin beds isn't a bedroom at all. It's a converted family room. There is no door to close for privacy. The floors are VERY thin, so trying to sleep while others are upstairs was tricky. Also, the sheets didn't fit the beds downstairs.
These issues aside, the home is lovely and the upstairs main living area is comfy for large families. We had some issues with how many people were staying with us (family in the area could no longer accommodate some of us due to health issues so we had more people staying than reserved for) and the owner was reasonable in negotiating. I should have communicated the issues before the trip, so I take full blame for the lack of communication. Garry was very understanding.
Location is great for those wanting to explore Rabun County. With a few adjustments, this could be a great place—until it's sold that is.
