Best Experience

We had the best experience in the house, the house, the beach and the maintenance was great. It was one of the luxurious houses we stayed till now. We would like to visit again and again if we had the chance.

Great house and location

My family and I had a great stay. Only suggestion is that blinds or curtains that block the early morning and late afternoon winter sun would be a big plus. And if you need them, you'll want to bring a hair dryer and iron for your visit, as they are not available on site.

lovely house and great views

we loved the house overall. the location and views from the house were amazing. but unfortunately, when we got to the house the pool was filthy. there was trash and sand all in it. our check out date was a sunday so our last day, which was the saturday, me and my friends were sitting by the pool, it was around 3:30pm, and these random guys come to check them chemicals in the pool just to tell us we have to get out for 2 hours because they needed to put chemical in the pool. they also cleaned it before they put chemicals in it. so instead of this being done before hand and before the next guests checked in, they did it mid-day. communicating with the host was a little slow to response. one of the 2 fridges was not getting cold the first day either so i messaged about the pool and fridge and never received a response. i only got a response when i asked about the parked golf cart in the driveway.

ALL RENTERS BEWARE!

This home is Lipstick on a pig! For such a beautiful home in appearance, the reality was a disaster. So many things!..The elevator never worked! Maintenance came twice, broke within 10 min.-not safe. Kids got stuck in it. This was a HUGE inconvenience. the house was dirty. We watched the cleaning crew come in and out...they were only there 30 min. The floors were filthy, thee kids' feet were black from being in the house. There was visible mold with a bad mildewy odor in the top load washing machine. The kitchen was ill equipped; we had to buy plastic spoons to use. The sprayer at the kitchen sink shoots water out by the hose, soaking everything and everyone. The upstairs air conditioner was not properly working. It stayed around 80 degrees up there. No water came out of the shower heads. We waited for maintenance to come and fix that problem,(which they did) wasting 1/2 a day. The pool pump stopped working day 2. The water hose outside is split and doesn't work. BUGS! there were cockroaches in the bdrms; killed 10 in 1 bedroom alone and several large spiders. The shower drain in one of the master suites is very slow, causing large amts. of water to spill into the bathroom. We used the 2 towels they gave us to sop it up every time someone showered, even though we tried to block the water from coming out. Some of the porch furniture is in bad shape. One of the queen rms. is too small with no bathroom; should not be for adults., We strongly do not recommend this property.

Kelly, we apologize for the experience you had at this property. We understand this home was not up to both of our standards for your stay. Homes elevators can stop working from time to time. The elevator became stuck due to someone opening the inner door, which will cause the elevator to stop immediately as that is a safety mechanism. The only issues reported to us were the elevator and water pressure issues, which we sent our staff out in a timely manner to remedy, all within the same day on which these issues were reported. I also checked both message threads through VRBO, and nothing was reported there. If we had been notified of the other maintenance and housekeeping issues, we would have sent a staff member out to the property as quickly as possible to correct them. We have not had any staff or guests report any pest issues before or after your stay, as that was not reported to us during your stay. Also, guests are forewarned to stay off the property until the home is ready as the staff is told to leave if someone comes to the home for their safety, as guests are still strangers to them, and it is most likely why they left so quickly. If we had been notified of the housekeeping complaints, we would have sent them back out to correct what was missed as we want all our guests to have an enjoyable and clean home for their stay. We will make the private homeowner, maintenance, and housekeeping departments aware of the issues you had to ensure they are corrected for our future guests. Again, we apologize for your experience at this property. Please reach out to us as we would love to try and remedy these issues post-stay.

Family Beach vacatino

Overall, a great property. Surprised we had to make the beds. Annoying that we had to buy all paper products, soaps, trash bags, etc. A/C didn't work on 2nd floor. Had to get in-room coolers. They leaked, didn't cool that well. Better Beach Rentals responded quickly to all calls. They also got us a rebate due to the issues. Everything else worked fine.

Great location

Loved being close to the pier. Ruby’s coffee was a real unexpected treat that we enjoyed every morning. In the house, Lots of dining space & wonderful decks to enjoy the view.

Thanksgiving week 2021

This house was very attractive with a great view of the ocean. We stayed with our extended family for Thanksgiving week and the 7 bedrooms met all our needs. The house was clean and ready for our arrival. The house had a very large dining table with 17 full sized chairs. There were multiple deck areas well equipped with outdoor furniture. Having 2 refrigerators in the kitchen was wonderful for a large group like ours. We really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to rent again. At arrival, we had 2 small issues - one with the heating on 1 of the floors and the other with the linens for 1 of the beds. The rental company was very responsive and quick to resolve the 2 issues. The next day, we created an issue with the elevator, by not closing the door properly, and the rental company quickly came to fix the elevator. Some small issues were that the house’s silverware was inadequate and we supplemented with plastic. Also, the back cushions on the living area couch were worn and we would recommend replacing the couch cushions. Finally, there weren’t enough beach toys for the kids. We enjoyed our stay. This is a great property and we highly recommend renting this house.

Great house for large family

Our extended family (Four individual families) stayed here. It was probably the best vacation we've every had together. House was large and we were able to be together when we wanted and have our own space when we wanted. Super easy to get on the beach and loved the deck on all three levels. Sunset and sunrise each day were awesome. Being next to an event center did bring beach weddings on Saturday but we enjoyed watching them from our deck. We hope to return to this house next year.

Great location but underwhelming home

This house has so much potential to be a year to year rental for us but the lack of cleanliness and sub par furniture/kitchen we probably will not be back. Had to call the property manager at check in to have cleaning crew come back and re-clean main floor. I had to wipe 1/2 inch of dust off my ceiling fan, wipe red sludge off my shower head, and the air grates in the ceiling were covered in dust and black stuff. The couch in the living room is molting and causes most of the mess upstairs. The kitchen appliances were nice but the kitchen is not well stocked with dishes or things like a working can opener. The property management company was unresponsive and we had to contact them many times regarding the water level in the pool and the elevator breaking down. The location and actual beach was amazing which makes all the other things so disappointing. We rented in the off-season and maybe there were staffing shortages, but If the management company gets their act together and this house gets a deep clean, we may consider renting again.

Somewhat disappointing

The location was great but this home did not meet our expectations. A home with 7 bedrooms needs to have a kitchen equipped for a large group. We had 14. There were 8 coffee mugs and several of those were chipped. There was also not enough silverware. In addition, there was mold in the washing machine and on the shower curtain, sand in the elevator, bird poop on the sliding doors, and a nasty pealing couch. The bedroom curtains didn’t completely cover the sliding glass doors either. They were too small. When you pay as much as we paid you should not have to call about obvious issues.

Nice beach, decent house!

This house is located in a great place! No direct beach access, but still a short walk, even for little kid legs. After a problem with a bathtub drain and a loose kitchen faucet, the management company was quick to send someone to repair the problems. A bit disappointed with the stock of things in the kitchen (ie. one kitchen towel, 5 coffee mugs), but lots of plates. There were enough pots, pans, and silverware. The granite slab on the kitchen island is not fully attached. I leaned on the edge and the entire thing tipped upwards. The two refrigerators were great to have! The bedding and towels left something to be desired (the most basic of linens). I’d suggest bringing your own if you are at all choosy. Some problems with the lights/fans in the bottom story (turning on and off on their own). Air conditioning worked well. While most of the house appeared clean enough, and we were empathetic to the number of houses on the island that must be cleaned in such a short amount of time, there were some things that obviously weren’t cleaned at all (ie- the air conditioning grates were coated with dust/hair, same with the fans, under couches). The outdoor shower lacked enough water pressure to rinse and was very slippery, as there are no drains, and no mat to stand on, and the concrete was smooth and sandy. No hose was provided for the water spigot. We all felt as though if this house was more in the $8,000 vs $10,000 range, it would have better met our expectations.

Great location and views but needs a little TLC

We enjoyed our stay overall. The view was great and we really liked the location with convenient access to the pier. However, they could really add a few small things to make the experience exponentially better. One easy fix would be to add blackout curtains to the bedrooms. Right now they basically have some cheesecloth hanging up which provides zero privacy to anyone who may be on the patio and they don't block the sunlight at all. The kitchen was poorly equipped. Obviously not a big deal if you plan on eating out every night but makes it difficult for those who like to cook. We also had a few maintenance issues- kitchen faucet was broken, fridge drawers missing/damaged, icemaker wasn't working, one of the toilets didn't work, washer was full of mold. A maintenance guy responded quickly and fixed what he could... We had 5 kids under 5 with us. It was really nice having easy access to the beach and the pool right there. However, one of the dressers in a bunkroom tipped over and landed on top of one of them! Luckily he wasn't injured. It was a tall narrow dresser sitting on a carpeted floor in one of the bunkrooms with a heavy TV sitting on top making it extremely unstable. It was not anchored to the wall. I let management know what happened but never got any response. We had a great time overall. I just think that a few small upgrades and some TLC could drastically improve this house.

Perfect Micro Wedding Venue

Our party was tiny for a wedding - only 10, but this house was a perfect Home base to perform a short ceremony on the lower deck and enjoy the views. The happy couple was engaged at the pier after the July 1 fireworks this past summer. The house allowed for the safety precautions necessary with plenty of restrooms, bedrooms and floors to be socially distanced and feel safe. Having 2 refrigerators and plenty of table and counter space allowed for socially distanced meals, storing plenty of food, and game playing. The elevator allowed for quests to move about easily especially since one guest just had knee surgery and another one is getting ready to have knee surgery! The house’s proximity to the pier and KoKo Cabana were perfect as we had the dinner reception at KoKo! It was perfect since Ruby’s at the Pier provided a coffee bar for several mornings. We couldn’t have asked for a better spot.

Great location and family friendly

This property handled our large, extended family vacation very well. Plenty of bedrooms and baths. Rounded wall edges, minimal accessories, a fenced in pool and easy access to the beach and pier made it very kid-friendly. We loved having TWO refrigerators! Would have liked some pantry space to go along with that. The views were spectacular from the decks and inside the home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic Property

The overall experience was fantastic. We had 13 of us staying here and there was plenty of room. The house was beautiful. We could have used another coffee pot and notification of trash/recycling days but not a big deal. I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent

We take an annual family long weekend to the beach every year. This was our best house yet. It accommodated everyone easily, has amazing views, a pool that was perfect for everyone but most particularly the grandchildren, is convenient to everything in Oak Island as well as Southport, and was in excellent shape. We loved being there. You can't go wrong.

Great for family reunion.

Loved this place, on the beach, lots of bedrooms, loved the decks where we sat at night and looked at the stars. Would recommend this to anyone.

Wonderful home! All the amenities, a truly comfortable home away from home! Perfect location!

We had 3 families, 6 Adults, one college junior, and 4 teenagers all stay in this house and we even had an extra room for guests that visited one night from around the area. The pool was perfect, private and cool. The views from the deck were spectacular. The pier was still undergoing renovation which was fine, because you can’t hear construction much over the roar of the waves. The decks off the house will be the perfect spot to people watch when it is complete. We had the best vacation ever and we will more than likely be back to make this our yearly vacation. It’s the perfect spot, the perfect house.

We really enjoyed the house, it sits right on the ocean and was plenty big for our large group. The only things that would improve the house would be a high chair, more large pots, and a sheet telling us when to put garbage curbside. Enjoyed every minute of our trip. Mike and Sandra Smith

Beautiful home, a few things that could be corrected with time. Really a great home.

Really enjoyed our time. Hope to return. Pavers through rocks around pool to gate would help access to beach. Would have liked to known fishing pier was condemned. Forced people to fish from beach right behind house which was a little weird for swimming. But, family and myself had a wonderful week and hope to return.
