About Doreen Hershey

Growing up, my husband spent many wonderful years on this farm with the Bitner family, who owned it for 50 years. When the farm went up for auction in 2001, he was fortunate to purchase it from the Bitner's. He spent many years restoring all of the buildings to their current beautiful condition. It was his passion. We have made treasured memories together on this property since it was acquired in 2001. I recently retired from 34 years as a public school first grade teacher, and it is now my passion to open these magnificent homes up for others to enjoy. Come and experience the serenity of life on River Point Farm.

Doreen Hershey purchased this farmhouse in 2001

Spectacular Farmhouse! So picturesque!

  • 5 of 5

This is definitely a perfect, cozy weekend home. There is even a quaint bridge to cross to get to the house that really set the tone for this farm country experience. Its absolutely beautiful, all the furnishings and the kitchen speaks for itself. There is a beautiful river directly behind the house that you can hear. Our family loved the woods surrounding the property and exploring the farm. The whole house was very warm. We enjoyed nearby park where we had a huge snowball fight. We also took a quick ride to Strasburg to see the train museum and antique shops. Doreen, the owner, was very professional and friendly with all the arrangements. She also brought us fresh baked bread and treats for the boys. It's great for family weekend or a romantic getaway. Its only 2.5 hours from NYC so that was another bonus. I would highly recommend this home to family and friends. We hope to return again in the spring/summer. Enjoy!! Its well worth it. It's like a story book setting you will love!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words! You and your family were a joy to have as guests. I loved hearing about the activities that you did with your 4 teenage sons. Thank you for leaving the house in excellent condition! Awesome parents! Amazing kids! I hope that I see you again at River Point Farm!

Beautifully renovated property in a peaceful location; accommodating and caring owner

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as an extended family for two nights to attend our son's wedding in Lancaster. The property is located in a remote and peaceful area (good for sleeping), but it is only a 20 minute drive into Lancaster. It served our purpose as a convenient place of respite away from the weekend's happy craziness (or is it crazy happiness?).

The best term I can think of for the renovation of this old farmhouse is exquisite! Not a detail in the interior has been overlooked; I actually enjoyed just sitting in the rooms and relaxing admiring the work and the detail taken in the furnishings. Our only regret is that due to our schedule (rehearsal dinner on Friday, the wedding on Saturday, a brunch on Sunday), we did not have the time to enjoy the full property the way it should be enjoyed, with the beautiful grounds and the river. We fully intend to be back for a relaxing weekend at some point in the near future!

A note about the owner, Doreen. As with any wedding, we had several changes along the way with our reservation, including who was staying, how many were staying, when various people would be arriving, etc. Doreen was more than accommodating and understanding with every change and request, including going above and beyond when we had a sudden death in the family. Due to circumstance, we did not get the opportunity to meet her in person, but I have never dealt with a more incredible owner!

Beautiful, peaceful location within easy drives of scenic areas.

  • 5 of 5

Very welcoming. We felt at home right away. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch at dusk watching fireflies. Our GPS sent us on a very twisted route so we felt we were in the middle of nowhere. However next day we were pleasantly surprised to discover this charming farmhouse is close and centrally located to enjoy Amish country. Would love to return and enjoy the river when it is not flooded due to all the rain. Owner Doreen was quick to respond to our emails and even let us call her to hear the wonderful history of the house. I highly recommend staying here.

This house is really lovely - Doreen has put so much thought into all the little design elements and the place was spotless. Large, beautiful kitchen and very comfy beds :) Doreen was incredibly responsive and really went above and beyond to help us with a special cirumstance that arose with my daughter during our stay. Would recommend this place to anyone.

A magical place!!

  • 5 of 5

Our experience here was wonderful! We booked our stay to celebrate our parents 45th wedding anniversary, and they were in love with the house and property the moment we arrived. Doreen was incredibly accommodating having fresh eggs, bacon and bread waiting for us from the local farm down the road. She had recommended a few local restaurants as well which we chose to follow her recommendation and were pleasantly satisfied! Mostly, we enjoyed sitting on the front porch. It was nice to just slow down and relax while taking in the beautiful views the property had to offer.
