Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath home, built 2016 with access to and views of Lake Logan

If you're looking for a mountain/lake getaway, our peaceful retreat has something for everybody: outdoor adventure and fishing, quaint mountain towns to explore, and R & R in a beautiful setting. Days spent in our home are guaranteed to take you back to a simpler time and rejuvenate your spirit.

Our house overlooks spectacular Lake Logan. It is on North Carolina 215, a National Forest Service Heritage Scenic Byway which climbs alongside a beautiful stretch of the upper West Fork of the Pigeon River towards the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lake Logan is a crystal clear mountain gem which lies in a pristine valley. Our secluded house is currently only one of four buildings on our side of the lake and sits on a 40 acre tract subdivided into 4 lots and surrounded by forest service land. We share our road and dock with three neighbors, only one of whom lives in town. We are also neighbors with the 300 acre Lake Logan Episcopal Center. Most of its campus is just up the road from us. Part of their property includes 5 cabins across the lake from us which provide reassurance that we're not totally isolated. Once an exclusive retreat for Champion Paper Company executives, Lake Logan, a 90 acre lake, is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes on the East coast and is completely surrounded by forest service land. Motorized boats are prohibited. So come soak up the serenity of God’s glorious gifts in this mountain sanctuary. Watch the sun set from the dock on Lake Logan after a day of fishing. The lake offers excellent fishing for trophy trout and bass, bluegill, crappie and perch. It is only open to guests of the conference center and us. You can relax on our covered porch, in the hot tub, or or one of two oversized sofas in the living room and enjoy a cup of coffee and a good book free from distractions. Children will enjoy swimming from the dock and paddling around in one of several boats we own. We've enjoyed spotting wildlife from the cabin and on the lake. Three pairs of bald eagles have taken up residence at the lake. We've seen deer, wild turkeys, otter, beaver, and an occasional bear. The lake is also home to geese, ducks, kingfishers, and heron.

The Blue Ridge Parkway, the Sunburst swimming hole and a multitude of waterfalls and hiking trails are right next door. We're minutes from the highest points along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Extensive shopping & dining are only 15 minutes away in downtown Waynesville. The historic Biltmore House and eclectic Asheville are only 40 minutes away. Perfect for a romantic getaway, celebration of a special day, or a family vacation.

We have paid particular attention to craftsmanship and details inside and out. Hardwood floors throughout, one wood burning and two gas fireplaces, covered porch with hot tub and grill, and large firepit with seating area close to the deck. The house has an open floor plan with large kitchen, living room, and dining room, three bedrooms and three and a half baths. The master bedroom on the first floor has a king-size bed and private master bath. The porch and hot tub can be accessed from the master bedroom. The second and third bedrooms are downstairs and each has an attached bathroom. Downstairs also includes a living area and trundle bed and outside entrance with patio.

The large living area is a combination kitchen/dining/living room and has great views of the wooded areas surrounding the home. The living room is accented with a stone fireplace and two comfortable sofas. It also includes a large, flat screen tv/DVD/blue ray/stereo system. Sliding glass doors open onto porch that overlooks the lake. From there you can view activity on the lake or grill your favorite foods.

Smoking is not permitted. Pets are allowed for a small additional fee.

About Dan Smith

We are a family of four. Dan is a youth minister, Leslie is a school counselor, our oldest daughter is in law school at Campbell and our youngest daughter works at the local pharmacy. We have a dog and a cat who are also a big part of the family.

Why Dan Smith chose Canton

Our home on Lake Logan is a dream come true. We have always wanted to have lake front property, but never imagined we'd find just what we were looking for so close to Waynesville. When four lots on Lake Logan went up for sale, we jumped at the opportunity because it had everything we were looking for: seclusion, fishing and boating on a beautiful lake which doesn't allow motorized boats and rarely has anyone else on the lake, a creek and mountain views.

Amazing custom property for a getaway during any season in the NC mountains!

  • 5 of 5

"At the Lake" is simply a stunning property in the NC mountains. I decided that we would host the family for Thanksgiving on neutral ground this year and found this gem very close to Asheville a few months back. The homeowners were extremely hospitable and communicative leading up to and during our stay. This custom built house was very well appointed for entertaining our group and given that the homeowners live in it a good part of the year, the house was very homie which made us all feel comfortable and as if we were very much at our own home for the Holidays. The property is tucked away in a great location that is quiet but offers lots of options for hiking, canoeing and almost any outdoor activity imaginable. It's also dog friendly - another reason we chose this property allowing two additional family members to join us. We look forward to a return trip in the future and would highly recommend this property as a great spot for a mountain getaway during any season. Thanks again for a memorable weekend!

Peace, comfort,quiet beauty

  • 5 of 5

One of our best family vacations in a long time. The house is absolutely beautiful, clean, comfortable. The lake is just a tiny walk down the drive. We caught so many fish. Loved the area, its close to the Blueridge parkway. Some good restaurants a short distance. Waynesville is close for shopping and dining too.
