Spectacular Hilltop Tower Get-Away in Romantic Luberon Village

When Picasso escaped from the cares of life with his beloved, he chose Ménerbes—the hilltop village that inspired Peter Mayle’s A Year in Provence.

This cozy, one-bedroom, two-story tower—officially located on the highest point in Ménerbes—sports a panoramic view from your bed by day, and moonbeams (if you keep your curtains open!) by night. Treat yourselves to breakfast in bed while your guests gaze upon the lavender fields, the mountains covered in oak, and the medieval village of Ménerbes from your hilltop perch.

The first floor of the former dovecote is a miniature casbah, tented in luxurious fabric on a traditional Provençal floor. There is a vintage sofa, perfect for relaxing, and a bar which guards the amenities—espresso machine, toaster oven, electric kettle, fridge, sink, and French Provençal dishes. Next to the private tower garden is the outdoor summer kitchen, including a gas range, oven, fridge and a Webber. Stone table with throne chairs, seating carved into the rock and topped with cushions. Climb a short stone staircase to the bedroom with quality mattress and linens. At the foot of the stairs is the bathroom, incorporating the original stone shower, along with WC and sink.

Between the dovecote and the owner’s house is a large pool—Go out the door and stroll into the center of the charming village of Ménerbes—with restaurants, art galleries, artist residency, and food and wine shops. Head the other direction, and you’re on a spectacular 3.5 kilometer loop through the countryside, with gorgeous views of the Luberon Mountains, vineyards, and villages—every once and a while, you may meet a local villager offering a hearty “bonjour.”

The tower get-away includes parking, as well as AC/heat and Wifi. This is the ideal property for couples seeking a unique, cozy romantic spot. Small pets considered, seven-night minimum.
