About the property

sleeps 4-6, 3 Bathrooms, hot tub, grill - your home away from home

Make memories with family and friends at "Bear Paw"!

Cozy, warm, inviting and convenient to mountain activities!

Park you car, walk inside, and enjoy your time with family and friends in the Rockies. My home is your "home away from home". Enjoy all the comforts of home for less than the cost of a single slope side hotel room.

My townhome has 2 bedrooms plus den and loft, 3 bathrooms. The location is superior; situated in a quiet neighborhood but minutes from the excitement of downtown Vail Village.

Here is what to expect: the kitchen has granite counter-tops, maple cabinets, and top-of-the-line appliances. The stove top is gas and the oven is electric! It is equipped with everything that you need.

You have stunning views of Gore Creek from the dining room and living room! The dining table seats up to 8 people. Step down from the dining room to the family room and relax in front of a wood burning fireplace and flat screen TV. There are a variety of family games and puzzles for your enjoyment.

Step out onto the deck and enjoy the sounds of the Gore Creek. The gas grill on the deck is great for barbeques all year round.

Sleeping accommodations are upstairs, with 2 bedrooms, a den and a loft - sleeps 4-6 comfortably (maximum capacity of 6). The master has a beautiful brass, king size bed. There is a flat screen TV for your viewing enjoyment. The second bedroom has a cherry, sleigh bed with a quality queen size mattress. This bedroom has a private, full size bathroom. It also has a flat screen TV. The den has 2- single twin beds; the den is open so it is not considered a private bedroom. A step ladder goes to the loft where there is extra sleeping room with 2 mattresses. Kids love this space.

I am a '(comfy) bed snob' - and, I'm told, the beds are 'oh so comfortable'!

Additionally, there is a private internet service.

Laundry: full size washer and dryer.

This 40 townhouse complex has a hot-tub in the common area - it is always very clean and professionally managed.

Need something - the grocery stores (Safeway and City Market), liquor store, ski rental shops, restaurants are 3 minutes away via bus or car.

Have a wonderful, relaxing time - make memories in Vail and at BearPaw.

The rates are lower for this unit due to owner management.

Please note the rates: Calculate the rate per night plus a 9.8% Vail tax. Add a $135 cleaning fee. This is the total rate.

No pets/No smoking.

Reservations can be paid for by checks, credit card, Pay Pal. Checks should be sent to: AA Vail @ PO Box 8401, Columbia, SC 29202. Questions please feel free to contact me @ 803-212-8580.

About Maureen O'Hare

Ptarmigan has been my 2nd home since 1998. I'm originally from Pittsburgh, lived in Denver for 30+ years but now live in South Carolina. My family, husband and 4 daughters - ages 23 through 30, grew up skiing, hiking, and loving the outdoors. We enjoy our home in the mountains but, also love to share it with others.

Maureen O'Hare purchased this townhome in 1998

Why Maureen O'Hare chose West Vail

West Vail was the perfect location for my family. Close to everything but with the privacy and quiteness of a get-away. Plus, we love the amenities of the bus at our door step and hot tub - after a great day on the mountain. Can't beat the location - right on Gore Creek.

What makes this townhome unique

Gore Creek provides not only a scenic delight but also a listening joy and privelege - visible from every room in the down stairs and master bedroom.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Getting to spend a week with my three children, family and friends was just "what I needed". Your condo was well-stocked, cozy, affordable and over-all perfect. Hopefully, because we all had soooo much fun, this will become a tradition. Thankyou once again for a wonderful vacation and such fabulous accomodations.

Great place for a family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over spring break for a couple days of skiing. Everything is very convenient. The bus stop is just out the front door and if you already have lift tickets, is only a 2-3 minute ride to the lift at the Cascade. The homeowners left fabulous instructions on the bus schedule so it was very easy to get around. The hot tub is just a few steps out the front door. We loved that the creek ran behind the condo - it was a gorgeous view from both the master bedroom and the family room. The place can easily sleep 8 with the loft and twin beds upstairs, plus the king and queen size beds. The kids loved having their own space. There are fun games to play for all ages too. The kitchen was pretty stocked but we were too lazy to cook and ate out every night. We appreciated the magazines containing the best of and other local restaurant recommendations. All in all a great stay.

fantastic place!

  • 5 of 5

Our family with 2 kids (ages 7 and 5) absolutely loved our stay here. The condo is less than half a mile walking distance on paved bike/running path to a fantastic playground/park. The condo is well stocked and our kids loved sleeping in the loft. The creek outside is amazing. When we visit again we will be sure to return to stay here!

Cozy and Relaxing Condo!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time staying in West Vail, and we loved it! The Bear Paw condo is such a fabulous find! It's got lots of room to spread out, but also feels super cozy as well. I loved having the river right out your back door, very peaceful!

Maureen has the condo well stocked with essentials and has labeled all the cabinets etc. it was super easy to find things. We had a car, but we used the free shuttle a lot to get dropped off at Vail Cascade to hop on the chair lift. The Cascade resort is closed for renovations, but the ski rental shop at lift is open, and had great skiis, service, and free storage. That's a nice little secret! We hope to stay at Bear Paw again in the near future! Thanks for sharing it with us, Maureen:)

Perfect Adult Ski Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We've been staying in West Vail almost yearly for twenty years. Maureen's condo is a perfect "home away from home" that combines great location (just steps to bus shuttle; quick ride to slopes), plentiful amenities (view of Gore Creek; hot tub just a few steps away; lovely wood-burning fireplace), and great attention to detail (stocked and labeled kitchen and laundry room; hatchet to make fire kindling; detailed instructions in advance of arrival). It's clear she loves her place and loves having others enjoy it. Great vacation home karma!

We were just two couples, but we could have easily had a third or some of our young adult kids join us.

For those unfamiliar with Vail, you can't beat West Vail for location and price. All the buses are free and give you easy access to Lionshead and Vail Village (the two main base areas). It's really nice to get away from the hubbub. We ate in each night, and we really appreciated the "pay it forward" approach Maureen takes with stocking the pantry. We added a few spices but otherwise were grateful not to have to buy basics like olive oil and vinegar.

Thanks, Maureen, for all you do to welcome your guests.

Great weekend in Vail!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend in Vail and loved staying at Maureen's home!

The home was very clean and exactly as described. It's was perfect for three couples and cozy without feeling cramped. Note that one couple will have limited privacy since they're either in the loft or den - this was well advertised though. It is fully stocked with everything you'll need - we cooked breakfast each day and one dinner at home.

In terms of location, this home is amazing with a 25 yard walk to the bus stop and quick free shuttle to Vail. There's also parking right in front of the unit (the unit is also on the ground floor which makes it easy).

The thing that stood out the most from our trip is Maureen's attention to detail. We never had to contact her because she's thought of everything - from having the bus schedule on the fridge to a label on the oven for high altitude cooking temperatures adjustments. From my experience using HomeAway it's these small things are what make a great host. She was also extremely responsive when booking which is always appreciated.

We can't wait to return!

My home is in a small townhome division in West Vail; it is on the south side of I-70. However, due to the Gore Creek and huge pine trees along side the Creek, there is little to none highway noise. The FREE Town of Vail bus is seconds away from my door step. Town of Vail Sales Account #4376
