Situated just 4½ miles from the quaint market town of Thirsk, with its 15th-century church, original cinema, and renowned racecourse. The cobbled market square hosts a twice weekly market and is surrounded by individual shops, traditional inns and tea rooms.

Alf Wight, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ lived here and the ‘World of James Herriott’ visitor centre gives a fascinating insight into the working life of this famous vet, his subsequent books and TV series. The Old Post Office provides a perfect base from which to explore the wider area too, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the west and the North Yorkshire Moors to the east.
