Shores Club is my home six months a year. My family and I love it and sincerely hope you enjoy your summer vacation here.
Since retiring from a career in Chicago, I have operated an RV resort property management business in Michigan and Florida. That business takes me away from the house in the summer time which is why it is available for rent.
Most or our renters over the past 10 years have been family reunions for grandparents, their adult children and their grand children. The house is perfect for these kinds of family gatherings.
Michael purchased this house in 1994
The house has an interesting history so we have collected some informationstories from several of the families who occupied it at various points in time. As we understand it, the house was constructed in the 1870s for a fruit farmer and was located on the site of the Glenn Shores Golf Course. The building that currently serves as the club house for the golf course was originally the barn for this house.
In the late 1920’s Glenn Shores was developed as a resort community and the house was moved to its current site by rolling it on logs and pulling it with mules. The developer intended to use the house as a beach club for the Glenn Shores development and poured the foundations behind the house to add a large dining room. When the developer went bankrupt in 1927, the house began to be used as a summer cottage.
It was winterized and remodeled by us. Pages from the 1920’s brochure are framed and hung around the stairs and landing along with a map and renderings of the house.
Lake Michigan Shores Club Cottage has been a summer rental since 1998 but this is the first year we have been listed on VRBO. As such, there have not yet been any entries into the guestbook.
Thank you Michael, for a wonderful week at Shores Club Cottage. The accomodations were wonderful and so well appointed for our famly reunion. Beds and pillows are comfy , so necessary for a good R & R. We so enjoyed the spacious kitchen and ample room to prepare. The best part was being able to sit all 13 adults around one table. Even better to have 14 adirondack chairs for susnsets on the deck. We'll be back... Paula & Michael
Our family had a wonderful time at the Shores Club Cottage last weekend. The weather was gorgeous. The house accommodated our large crew fabulously and we loved all the different spaces to gather. Though we spent most of our time on the deck. Thank you for making our weekend so memorable as we celebrated the 94th birthday of our family patriarch.
Our family has rented the Lake Michigan Shores Club Cottage for the last two consecutive years, and we plan to stay again. This is a place with a lot of room, and if you have three children and their spouses and all of their children, you'll need every inch of it. The cottage is very well cared for and has all the amenities--five bedrooms, two bathrooms, two kitchen sinks and two dishwashers, the private sandy beach is a five-minute walk away and you are half-way between South Haven and Saugatuck. The front yard is big enough for bocci, baseball, football and tag. The back yard is for grilling, cocktails if you can fit them in, and absolutely killer sunsets. This is a very, very nice private place to stay. Our request for baby cribs was taken care of without a hassle (and, when we left behind a cherished baby quilt, they found it asap and mailed it to us right away). The owners are polite, understanding and very responsive to suggestions as to cottage improvements. The rental is not cheap, but if you can afford it this is the place you've been looking for. It will knock your socks off.
Our glorious week at the charming Shores Club Cottage was nothing short of perfection! Outdoors, we soaked up the spectacular views from the spacious deck and witnessed some of Mother Nature's finest. We also took many walks on the beach, biked and kayaked, lounged and thoroughly relaxed under the sun, moon, and stars. Indoors we enjoyed the variety of sitting rooms for relaxation and conversation, communed in the kitchen and dining area, and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of this historic cottage. Our group intends to return to this cottage again and again for many years to come. A heartfelt "Thank You" goes out to the owner Michael for his prompt and friendly service and hospitality. We feel very lucky to have found this special place!
This large, beautiful, and homey cottage was everything we hoped for. Its five, tasteful bedrooms accommodated our burgeoning family, including six small grandchildren. We like to cook, and the kitchen, with its great stove, two sinks and two dishwashers served all of our practical needs. The second floor deck offers stunning views of Lake Michigan. And with such a crowd, we were glad the bathrooms were designed to be used by more than one person at a time. The beach was clean and accessible--only a short walk down the road. It provided a perfect respite for beleaguered young parents and a delightful adventure for the little ones. We found Michael to be professional, honest, and responsive to our requests. All in all, we loved it, and we want to return to Lake Michigan Shores Club Cottage.
House was great and had a beautiful view of Lake Michigan from a second story living room and deck. The association beach was clean and not crowded. The owner was very helpful. My family and friends had a wonderful time. There are lots of farms in the area for produce, ice cream and berry picking, Saugatuck and Holland are not far either.
