Acerca de este alojamiento
Farthingdales - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms
Farthingdales sits on Lawrence Lane, a no-through road with just four cottages and part of Burford Boarding School, which ends at St John the Baptist Church with its impressive church spire - forever captured by L S Lowry in his Burford Church painting. At the end of the lane is a footpath that passes the church and churchyard, exiting on Church Lane which leads to the River Windrush and a riverside walk. Farthingdales is built from the region's distinctive, honey-coloured Cotswold stone, with an Art Deco panel in the front door – a nod to the town's link to the Art & Crafts Movement.
The owner has refurbished and decorated Farthingdales with great style and flair to create a stunning home. On the ground floor is a stylish open-plan kitchen-dining-living area, with a superb inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove, a family bathroom and a boot room. Upstairs, there is a family shower room and two bedrooms, one a spacious master bedroom with a super-king-size bed and a unique bed head made with William Morris design fabrics and the other a delightful twin room with two single beds.
Farthingdales is right in the heart of the oldest part of Burford, tucked away from the visiting crowds. To the rear of the cottage is a very pretty, Cotswold cottage garden with a patio, small lawn with a garden bench, planted borders and a delightful summer house. Guests are provided with a dining table and chairs and a pair of lounging chairs. The east-west orientation of the garden means it has sunshine on it – weather permitting – throughout the day and on into the evening, making it the perfect spot for a morning coffee through to evening drinks.
Ground Floor
Entrance Hall: Step in from Lawrence Lane through the front door, with its bright and colourful Art Deco glass panel, into the stunning open-plan kitchen-living-dining space, featuring the original flagstone floor, exposed beams, inglenook fireplaces with harmonising clay-coloured walls entwined with modern luxury.
Kitchen/Dining Area: Immediately in front of you is the kitchen's white, quartz-topped breakfast bar with two stylish bar stools and a unique and quirky squirrel climbing down the light flex! To the right side of the breakfast bar, in front of an original stone inglenook, is a beautiful, solid oak dining table with comfy seating for all. Alongside the table there's a drinks station with a Nespresso machine, and a microwave above kitchen cabinets housing a fridge, freezer and washing machine.
The kitchen's breakfast bar leads around to a fully equipped cooking and preparation area, with an oven and hob, dishwasher, wine fridge and Thomas Denby stone sink. A back door, with another colourful Art Deco glass panel, opens to the patio and garden.
Living Area: This beautiful living area is at once stylish and cosy. It features a wood burning stove within an original inglenook fireplace, with a custom-built brass and leather fender – the perfect spot to sit and warm up on a cold winter's night. To one side of the fireplace is a wing-back armchair and to the other a Smart TV, while a reproduction chest acts as a coffee table and store for board games. In the far corner there's a charming, cushioned window seat – once the doorway of one of the original cottages - with books and a reading lamp. Two comfy sofas, on a woven jute rug, provide plenty of space for relaxing in front of the fire while watching the TV or reading. At the foot of the stairs is a custom-built oak hall bureau with a lamp, mirror and pretty leaf dish – the ideal place to keep keys and phones.
Bathroom: Double, paned doors open from the dining area end of the cottage into a light and bright family bathroom, which features a full-size bath with central taps and a shower above with a rain effect shower head and hand-held shower. In addition, there is a vanity unit with a large wash basin with a touch light mirror and a shaver point to one side, a toilet, and a heated towel rail. A three-pane window (with a blind) overlooks the side courtyard. (The bathrooms doors are lockable and have tapestry curtains. These can be hung on the dining area wall to allow light through when the doors are closed, and the bathroom is not in use, or can be hooked onto the doors for privacy when using the bathroom.)
Boot Room: Continuing through the bathroom, guests will find a handy boot room with hooks to hang coats, plenty of space to keep boots and shoes, and a butler's sink. A delightful window seat with beautiful cushions and curtains provides the perfect spot to get ready for the outdoors or simply sit and contemplate the day ahead or the day just enjoyed. A tall cupboard houses the iron, ironing board while the vacuum is under the lift-up seat. A door leads out to garden.
First Floor
A carpeted staircase with a handrail leads up to the landing where there is a beautiful light hanging over the stairs and the famous L.S. Lowry print of Lawrence Lane on the wall.
Bedroom One: This gorgeous bedroom has a strikingly tall ceiling and features a super king-size bed, with bedside tables and reading lamps, set against a custom-built, extra tall bedhead with William Morris fabric panels; so synonymous of the Arts and Crafts movement of the 1800s that was so strong in this area. The bedroom is also furnished with a wardrobe, chest of drawers-cum-dressing table with a large mirror above and a reclining armchair and has bedside sockets with USB points. It has a low, triple-pane window framed by sumptuous, lined curtains and a window seat where you can sit and watch the quiet life of Lawrence Lane going by below.
Bedroom Two: The pale-mint walls, burnt orange velvet bedheads and antique, mahogany furniture give Farthingdales' twin bedroom a richly Victorian feel. The bedroom is furnished with two single beds (2'6”), with a bedside table and two lamps (and bedside sockets with USB points), an antique dressing table with drawers and an antique wardrobe with plenty of hanging space. This bedroom also has a low, triple pane window with a window seat and beautiful, lined curtains framing this retreat within a retreat.
Family Shower Room: The compact but fully fitted shower room features a walk-in shower with a detachable shower head and three safety handles, a washbasin with a large mirror with a touch light and LED/Bluetooth speaker, a toilet, a vanity unit with two shaver points and a heated towel rail. Look out for the gorgeous, hare robe hooks on the back of the door.
Outside
The cottage has a charming, east-west orientated garden, making it a fabulous suntrap on sunny days, which is accessed through the rear door off the kitchen or through the boot room. Cross the little gravel path and head through the gate marked with a number ‘3' and into the patio area (where you'll also see the outside of what was once an ancient saddlery), and then to a lawn surrounded by mature borders with a summer room at the far end. Take a seat on the garden bench and enjoy the sound of the famous church bells, eat al fresco on the patio or enjoy the outdoors, protected from the elements, wrapped up in one of the garden blankets or inside the garden room.

Perfect place to stay
The cottage was very comfortable and convenient for the town centre. On a quiet street just off the main High Street . We parked the car opposite with no problem. The cottage was very clean with an extremely comfortable bed and the kitchen had all the facilities needed. We would definitely recommend this cottage and we will be returning.

Fabulous Farthingdales
We had a wonderful few days retreat. Farthingdales had everything we could need. Excellent facilities. Cosy and comfortable.
Location was, just off the high street but close that it was so easy to pop out for provisions.
Excellent all round. Would love to come back.

our second stay at this lovely cottage
This is our second Dec stay at Farthingdales cottage,
On arrival it was lovely to see the real Christmas tree in situ and the light on for us.
Our only criticism is that the main bedroom is very cold, the radiator doesn't give out much heat.
It was the same last year.
The window would benefit from a shutter or blind as very cool and draughty.
It did affect our enjoyment

One of the best cottages in The Cotswolds
Our second visit to Farthingdales in beautiful weather following our stay over Christmas. We were hoping to go back later again this year but it was booked. Such a fabulous cottage in terms of layout, cleanliness and location - cannot recommend this highly enough.
If this is free, book it!

Lovely place to stay
It was a true pleasure to stay with our family of 4 in this lovely cottage. The interior is so high-end in every detail with a classic Cotswolds look-and-fool. Also the location in Burford is perfect with all amenities / nice local pubs at a few steps away!

Perfect stay in Burford
Farthingales is a beautiful cottage and we have a fantastic stay over the weekend for our friends wedding. Its proximity to the high street is perfect and the little garden in the back was an extra treat with the good weather we had. The setup in the cottage was extremely well thought out and has everything you could possibly need, even had milk in the fridge for our arrival!
I would recommend Farthingales to all my friends. Was a perfect stay for 4 people.

Highly recommend.
We stayed at Farthingdales last year too and will definitely be back for a third time.
Ideally situated in the lovely town of Burford and a stones throw from the busy High Street, the actual road is very quiet with a lovely church at the end of the cul-de-sac.
Burford is full of shops and eateries, and the local people are genuinely friendly which reflects onto the tourists. It has such a ‘feel good’ vibe, in my opinion.
Easy to park outside the house or small car park not far away.
Also, well situated for the Cotswolds. Most other villages and tourist attractions, are not that far away.

Great house in great location
We were three adults staying for a week, and we had plenty of space and everything we needed. The house has a few quirks but was clean and comfortable. Kitchen is very well equipped and both bathrooms very functional.
We were fortunate to have very sunny and hot weather, so ceiling fans in the bedrooms would have been a real plus.
The garden is small but great for an evening drink or relaxing in the sun, with a little bit of TLC it could become a true gem.

My husband and I stayed at Farthingdales for 4 nights. We both really wished we stayed longer! The cottage was just as described: very cozy, had comfortable bed (we only tried the king), clean and perfectly located. It had everything we needed. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. Booking and Check-in were easy. We’ll definitely come back for a longer stay!

We loved our stay at Farthingdales. The garden was beautiful, quiet and secluded. The house was amazing. Old and characterful. Everything you needed for a perfect holiday. A book is provided of the history of the village which we enjoyed doing. There are lovely walks from the door. Plenty places to eat. The only disappointing thing is having to leave and go home.

Fabulous property
The house was in a great location with instant access to shops and places to eat. It was well designed and had everything that you would need for a really comfortable stay.
The fireplace was lovely but it would have been nice to have a few more logs and fire lighters.
The only one downside was the check out time which was early at 10am. Having said that it wouldn’t stop us from returning again as we had a great time.

Faultless!
3 of us spent 6 days here after doing the Blenheim Team Triathlon and used it as a base for relaxing cycling around the beautiful local country lanes. Every aspect of Farthingdales is a delight. Interior design/decor is striking with lots of attention to detail. So, so stylish. Every comfort thought of and the squirrel climbing the lamp above the kitchen bar is typical of the quirkiness of this beautiful house. Right in centre of town yet quiet. Garden to relax in. Parking outside front door no problem. This house is a perfect combination of comfort and class.

Cosy cottage in the centre of Burford
A typical Cotswold cottage, well decorated with interesting details, a well equipped kitchen, lovely private garden, two bathrooms, great beds, several up to date devices. Close to an astonishing medieval church and Burford's High Street just around the corner.
Unfortunately, some of the appliances didn't work al too well.
The waste bins were full as we arrived and nobody came to empty them. Although there were lots of instructions in the folder, nothing is said about a possibility of placing the bins down the street at the right time, so we could do little more than fill them yet a bit more.
The beds are great, but the duvets are rather thick, not exactly suitable when the temperature rises up to 40 degrees.
Respuesta de VrboOwner el 10 de ago de 2022
Hello, thank you for your helpful feedback. Unfortunately, the bins were not clearly marked and it appears the neighbours bins were used, which were, as you noted, full. The owners are now marking their bins and adding clear information about collection day etc. They will also check the appliances and are investigating summer weight duvets in the cottage. Best wishes, Bolthole Retreats

Wonderful home away from home
We have stayed at Farthingdales Cottage the second time this summer and we loved it even more this time. The Cottage is beautifully decorated, has a very cosy yet stylish (but not overstyled) look and feel and is the perfect home away from home. This time, the weather was not as warm/sunny as during our stay in 2022, so we made good use of the wood burner in the living room and had cosy nights in in front of the fire with a glass of wine.
The cottage is spotlessly clean and has everything (and more) you need to make yourself feel at home. We especially love the open space living/dining room, the master bedroom upstairs and also the nice cottage garden, which is a sun trap during the whole day (if the sun is shining). Parking is on street and not an issue at all - we found our space, even on the busier weekends.
Burford is such a lovely village with lots of nice shops, a cheese monger and great pubs. Also, within a short driving you will find Daylesford Farm or the Wild Rabbit Pub in Kingham. Cheltenham with its lively highstreet and great restaurants is a short 30 minutes drive away, as is Oxford. So all in all, Burford sits ideally to benefit from everything the Cotswolds has to offer.
We are looking forward to staying again at Farthingdales and will highly recommend this property to our friends and families.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
This enchanting holiday home sits at the heart of Burford's original Anglo-Saxon development, tucked away down a residential lane, just a minute's walk from the medieval bridge crossing the River Windrush and all the town's shops, pubs and restaurants. The cottage was once two properties, with its walls and inglenooks dating back 400 years. Today it is one exquisitely furnished and decorated retreat with an elegant and welcoming open-plan living space, a wood burning stove, two gorgeous bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a hidden garden. The cottage is perfectly situated for exploring the Cotswolds, Blenheim and Oxford.
