San Martino In Freddana Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa On The Hills Of Lucca, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, 1 Sofabed. Sleeps 7 People

This charming farmhouse restored in 2012, was formerly a small cloister dating back to 1700. It is located in the middle of an olive tree grove dominating the valley and the city of Lucca, which lies only 11 km from here. The owner is an interior designer, this is why interiors are refurbished with care and attention to details, using original Tuscan furniture and aiming at the perfect ease of the guests. The days in Lucca will be particularly agreeable thanks to its many attractions and points of interest: the sightseeing of the town, its unique city walls, churches, squares, museums etc. For those who love the sea, in 20 minutes you can reach the sea-side resorts of Versilia, Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi - all renowned for their huge golden shores. For mountain lovers, in only 30 minutes you can be in the Garfagnana area and walk through its ancient villages. Take a chance to visit the cities of art and the most characteristic places of Tuscany (Pisa, Firenze, Siena, Cinque Terre) that are near to Lucca and easy to reach. In case some day you do not want to go anywhere, you can enjoy the impressive terrace, which is definitely the peculiarity of this house, offering the possibility to stay outside in complete relax. A magical place surrounded by nature where everything is like it used to be – only a few ancient houses deep in the stillness of the hills and an enchanting atmosphere due to the magnificent view, outstanding during the day and lovely by night.

Charming Cottage with Amazing View

  • 5 of 5

The house was charming and beautiful. It had everything we needed for our stay, and the views from the patio and side terrace are simply amazing. It's close to amenities, and its easy to pop into Lucca to enjoy the sites of the city. Massimo was super helpful and friendly, and even had bread, wine, and pasta waiting for us at the house! The drive up to the house may see daunting to those unfamiliar with European rural roads, but after driving in the mountain region nearby, they are not so bad :) We had a full size estate car, and had no issues getting to the house or parking there. Looking forward to coming back for another stay here in the future. It's just so peaceful and pretty!

Charming house in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

The house and location are as wonderful as the pictures portray.

The house is full of character and charm, it is equally comfortable, and has all the essential facilities for a holiday break. We could never tire of the daily view into the valley from the terrace. The hillside location is easily accessible by car and a trip to Lucca takes 15 minutes.

We chose this property from the photos on this site and positive comments from previous guests. We stayed in Florence for a short break prior to picking up the car and spending a week at Massimo's house. Whilst here we drove to Pisa which is easily accessible from the house. What we could not believe is why Lucca is not as famous as Florence and Pisa. Lucca was an unbelievable and unexpected jewel. Located within the medieval walls which enclose the town it is a truly historic and fascinating place to visit. The wall of the town is 4km in length and fully accessible to walk, or cycle along. Within the historic walls is a thriving town with some wonderful restaurants and shops.

Massimo is an absolute gentleman and is committed to ensuring his guests have the perfect holiday. He is available without being in any way intrusive. One morning there was no water available, a text to Massimo was swiftly replied with information that he had contacted the local water supplier and there was an issue to the area which was being resolved, further texts kept us fully updated with the timescale for restoration, and happily the issue was swiftly resolved.

I have no hesitation in recommending this property as an ideal place to discover the beauty of Tuscany.

Massimo's Awesome Property

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Home Away, Lucca, Piana di Lucca, #1100961, from 5/21 to 6/4/2016 in Torre near Lucca in Tuscany. It’s a charming old stone farmhouse nestled in groves of olives trees with a beautiful view of Lucca’s valley and the surrounding rolling hills. The house has been beautifully restored and updated. Each of the three bedrooms has a comfortable queen-size bed and the two upstairs have en suite bathrooms. On the first floor, the bedroom is a number of steps away from the bathroom, through the kitchen and laundry room, but it was ideal for our friend who has difficulty negotiating stairs. The kitchen was well-equipped and all the appliances were in good working order. Massimo was a responsive, considerate host and provided plenty of information about the local area. He helped us make reservations at a local restaurant which turned out to be a very memorable meal. Also he arranged for Carla, a local cook, to prepare an outstanding dinner for the six of us. Not only was the meal fantastic, but we had enough leftovers for the next day’s meals. One drawback for the friends we shared the house with was that one of the four had to do all the driving since automatic transmissions are difficult to find at Italy’s car rental agencies. She found the narrow, winding road up to the farmhouse nerve-wracking, especially in our first few days at the house. There are shops and restaurants fairly close by but none are in easy walking distance. The drive into Lucca took only fifteen to twenty minutes, depending on traffic and the whole area has dozens of small vineyards that produce outstanding wines. Our only regret about the house itself is that we forgot to take pictures of all the lovely tile and wood work and the many delightful decorative touches.

Absolutely Perfect

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing, the scenery breathtaking and Massimo is a perfect host. I was one of four women who had the opportunity to spend a week in May at this beautiful house set in a perfect Tuscan location. The home has so much character and the bedrooms and bathrooms were most convenient for four adults.

The house is located about 15-20 minutes from Lucca, a very scenic drive, with a local pub, supermarket and café in a nearby village. Massimo’s hospitality extended from the rental to arranging our pickup, coordinating our car rental pickup and drop off and facilitating our first grocery visit.

Highlights of the stay were meeting residents of the area, exploring the countryside, a home cooked Italian meal by Carla and Laura and a cooking class with Chef Paolo Monti. Definitely book the home cooked meal early in your stay to enjoy the many left overs you will receive.

The house is a perfect place to stay if going to Lucca and we would not hesitate a recommendation to anyone. We were sad to leave and we hope to return someday. Thank you Massimo!

Beautiful house in lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely weeks holiday in this beautiful Tuscan house in a lovely rural location. The antique decor meant the house was full of character and ensuite bathrooms in 2 of the bedrooms was very convenient. Unfortunately the weather in May was not that warm in the evenings but we enjoyed sitting on the terrace for breakfast with stunning views over the countryside to Lucca.

The house is about 15-20 minutes drive from Lucca with a supermarket in a nearby village. Massimo kindly met us in Lucca on arrival so we could follow him to the house. The property was well equipped and a cot was provided for our 22 month old son. Our son enjoyed playing on the terrace and had a great time exploring ! The highlight of our trip though was a home cooked Italian meal by Carla and Laura. They provided the most beautiful meal and worked so hard. I would advise booking them earlier in the week as the food kept us going for days !

We did day trips to Lucca and to Barga in the mountains. I would recommend visiting Marina di vecchiano near Pisa which is a beautiful beach about 50 minutes drive away. Massimo recommended a fantastic and cheap pizza restaurant zio joes and also ristorante le meriviglie which was great value.

All the family had a great holiday and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The house as a place to stay if going to Lucca.

Outstanding view and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

Massimo's house was outstanding in every way and Massimo was a wonderful host. The view was amazing and the property was nestled in an olive grove. The place was impeccably neat and well equipped. Well worth a stay. We hope to be eating breakfast on the patio taking in the view as soon as we can again.

The city of Lucca boasts some wonderfully charming urban spaces: the most famous of these is surely the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, built on the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheatre by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini, a unique architectural marvel. The main artery running through the historic centre is the narrow Via Fillungo, a medieval street lined with the city’s most prestigious shops. Some of Lucca’s other picturesque squares include Piazza San Michele, the city’s historic fulcrum, and Piazza San Martino, the centre of religious life and the site of the renowned Duomo di San Martino. Its immense historic-monumental opulence has prompted a recent proposal to include Lucca’s historic centre – which also comprises a historic playhouse, the Teatro del Giglio - in UNESCO’s world heritage list.
