About this property

Brook House, Askrigg, Yorkshire Dales

Boasting an open fire in the bright sitting room and two good sized bedrooms overlooking the village, Brook House is a delightful two bedroom Victorian Yorkshire Dales house set in the heart of Askrigg, Upper Wensleydale, which was the filming location for the famous original Herriot television series All Creatures Great and Small. This picturesque village is home to a cobbled central green, wonderful views, and scenic walks.

Entered via the porch, guests are led through to a bright and welcoming sitting room. Flooded with natural light from the bay window, the dining area features an cosy open fire for chillier evenings. To the rear of the property, the spacious and modern kitchen is fully-equipped for preparing meals. Follow the turned staircase to access two tastefully decorated bedrooms; a king-size bedroom with dual aspect windows overlooking the village; and a twin bedroom. These rooms are served by a good size family shower room with rainfall shower.

Bursting with character, Brook House is situated at the upper end of the village at the foot of Moor Road, which stretches over the hill into the sought after Dale of Swaledale, home to Gunnerside, and on to the small market town of Reeth, before ending at the bustling market town of Richmond, which is home to a Norman castle, Georgian theatre, and traditional cobbled streets. Watch the world go by over a refreshing drink outside The Crown Inn. Wander down for a bite to eat at one of the other local pubs in the village; or treat yourself to tea and cake in The Bake-well.

Nicely presented cottage on a very busy corner.

The stay was lovely but spoilt by the lack of parking and very very pinched in space at the front. Large trucks and tankers have to get past, understandably but this presented a constant hazard to us right outside the door. I constantly tried to protect my car in an unsuitable space as its impossible to park there. I had a Ford Focus and I would not rebook because of this. Everything else is very nice. Its part of a very busy village, but unsuitable for guests who want to relax. I rebooked elsewhere in a peaceful location in another dales village because I needed it. Sorry, but its spoilt my holiday.

Thank you for leaving your feedback, it is always good hear. Sorry that you found parking a problem, at with this extremely popular cottage, we have never found there to be an issue before. There is a free car park as stated in the information, near the cottage, sorry you felt you could not use this. It was lovely to speak to you when you called to extend your stay for another week at Brook House, but a shame we could not accommodate you due to it being booked out already. I am glad you managed to find somewhere at short notice and extend you time up here in the Dales. We have added the lovely review you left in the cottage, stating you have recharged your batteries, which is good to hear - Thank you and look forward to your return to The Yorkshire Dales.
