About Rosemary Pound

In 2010 while on vacation from Florida, my husband and I found a beautiful property in the East Tennessee mountains to build our vacation cabin. After retirement as a School Administrator, years of traveling and building nearing completion, we shifted gears and decided to make our cabin our permanent home. So, in 2014, we packed up our two rescue dogs and moved full time to this beautiful area. We haven't looked back since.

In 2016, fearful of running out of projects (lol), we purchased an adjacent property with a long time vacation rental in need of work. After months of blood, sweat and yes, some tears we are ready to re-offer "This Ole Bear" to vacationers of these beautiful mountains.

Rosemary Pound purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Rosemary Pound chose Tellico Plains

My husband and I are long time RVers and love to travel and explore. Taken by the beauty of this area, we searched for an RV friendly property that could serve our needs for a few months out of the year. We found the perfect property in the Cherokee National Forest a short distance up a mountain over looking a beautiful creek with a rich history and some of the most scenic falls right down the road, but..... restricted against RV's.

Convinced this was the perfect location for us we built our dream vacation cabin instead. It truly was a labor of love that we never regretted.

What makes this cabin unique

"This Ole Bear" was planned and furnished with you the vacationer in mind.

Purchased and renovated in 2i016 and made available September 2017 as a full time vacation rental, a guest of This Ole Bear will have access to the entire cabin and surrounding property to enjoy. Why vacation in someones part time home when you can stay in your own mountain retreat?

Whether you are looking for a remote setting for a romantic outdoor candlelight dinner overlooking a massive stone fire pit or a destination for your adventurous family with a private upstairs suite for the kids, the Bear has it all and more. Romance or kids not your thing, check out This Ole Bears' backyard with its hundreds of miles of recreation. The Tellico Plains and Coker Creek area offers hiking, backpacking, equestrian, fishing, white water rafting, mountain biking, motorcycle trails and roads, historical sites and museums as well as steam era railroad tours, antiquing and flea markets.

This was cabin was picture perfect inside and out. The pictures hardly do this little cabin justice. From the moment, we walked in; it felt like home. I really hated to leave and wished we could have stayed another day or two. Rosemary really out does herself and has thought of everything. She also is pretty wonderful in person. (Martha Stewart better watch out!) There are plenty of kitchen supplies, spices; coffee and towels. We travel via motorcycle and the driveway can be a little intimating if you are not use to it. (This is typical for the area.) Not a ton to do in the immediate area but lots of great motorcycle roads and very close to Tellicho Plains and the Skyway; which is why we were there. Absolutely, would we stay there again and recommend to others. Thanks so much for sharing your treasure!!

Quiet, cozy & quaint

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Ole Bear Cabin. Rosemary & Terry obviously have given very intentional attention to detail. The cabin itself is clean and comfortable with all the little touches that make it feel homey and special. A personalized welcome greeted us with some delicious cheese and wine. The attention to detail continues outside with manicured grounds and delightful seating spaces to enjoy the sounds of birds. We particularly enjoyed watching the hummingbirds feed and the sound of rain on the charming tin roof. My wife, daughter & I spent an entire week there and enjoyed many of the surrounding amenities in the region including the Native American artifacts in the museum at Tellico Plains, discovering the beautiful water falls at Bald River and Conasauga Falls, and the breathtaking scenery along the Cherohola Skyway. A stop at Indian Boundary was also well worth the time, and we also enjoyed a day shopping trip to nearby Copperhill.

Two other features worth noting - if there was a need of any kind Rosemary was on it in a flash! You can tell she and her husband work very hard to make sure their guests are well taken care of. And we truly appreciated the affordability of this venue. We've stayed at many VRBO properties, and I believe this one gave us the most bang for our buck.

Thank you, Rosemary & Terry, for a very enjoyable and relaxing time away. It's just what we needed. Anyone choosing The Ole Bear Cabin as a vacation destination will not be disappointed.

Wow! Just wow!

  • 5 of 5

Not only is the scenary beautiful, peaceful and stunning, the cabin is superb. Everything you could possibly need and more! The owners have thought of EVERYTHING. This location is close enough to town, but out of town enough. You can sit on the porch and listen to the creek across the road...or if you are really lucky, the rain on the tin roof. We will be back!!!! Thank you so much for sharing with us and our pups!!

Relaxing little cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was exactly what we needed. Away from our hectic lives with only sporadic phone service was a huge plus! The cabin was just the perfect size for us. Being able to do a load of laundry was super handy. Our favorite place to hang was the fire pit. Even though it was 90+ degrees out, we still had a fire going each night just to chill and unwind. Thank you so much for all the extra touches to make our stay wonderful!
