When you’re ready to begin exploring this historic town, begin with a trip to the majestic and famous Alnwick Castle, only a few minutes’ walk, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used for some scenes when filming the ‘Harry Potter’ films, so it’s a must-visit for any fans. Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and largest tree house in Europe, where guests can dine in the restaurant. Alnwick has its own playhouse so check ahead and book a show. There are numerous places spaced out all over this friendly town to eat in and have a drink.
Heading 4 miles east is the picture-perfect coastal village of Alnmouth where there is a gorgeous golden sandy beach and coloured houses along the estuary. A short drive west brings you to the small town of Rothbury, found nestled at the foot of the Simonside Hills and where the River Coquet ebbs and flows.
