Casa Santo, a sweet country apartment with pool on the hills of Lucca

A lovely 1.5 km drive through olive groves brings you to the private, gated entrance. The Apartment Casa Santo is part of a six units farmhouse called 'Il Borghetto' (formerly a rural, rustic farmhouse from the 14th century) in the hills below the village of San Gennaro near Lucca. The apartment is a tasteful blend of rustic, contemporary and antique furnishings. A 5 x 12 metre swimming pool with beautifully manicured lawns is shared by the apartments and is located on the terrace above the apartment with lovely views down the valley toward Lucca.



We are proud to offer a lifestyle in the heart of Tuscany that is truly unique. Picture yourself on the grounds of an historic 14th century building, rebuilt to the highest standards using only traditional Tuscan materials and methods, from handmade terra cotta tiled floors, to chestnut beams and tiled ceilings. The property also makes extensive use of hand built stone walls in keeping with the character and traditions of Tuscany.



There are two large ensuite bedrooms/bathrooms. Lots of light with windows in all bedrooms and bathrooms. Great views from every room.



The location of il Borghetto in San Gennaro is superb. In the medium hills above the Lucca plain and below the historic village of San Gennaro, we offer a piece of solitude in the Tuscan hills. Views of vineyards and olive groves are offered from every vantage point on the property. The newly built property features the stones of the 14th century building that stood on this very spot. Modern inside, the apartment retains the Tuscan charm of handmade terra cotta floors and chestnut beam ceilings throughout. Dedicated shared laundry room.



It is advisable to have a car with high suspension to comfortably navigate the 500-meter country dirt road leading to the house.



Enjoy a scenic 20-minute hike up the hill to San Gennaro, where you can savour a meal at the local trattoria, Il Corno Rosso. The area is surrounded by well-marked hiking paths, maintained by the Club Alpino Italiano, offering numerous opportunities for exploration.

Lovely and relaxing place to stay

Lovely, quiet and nicely decorated appartments with a relaxing swimming pool. The hosts are very nice and helpfull. When we arrived we did not need to do groceries right away because some Italian products were provided for our first pasta-dinner. The appartment has everything it needs including muskito screens on the door and windows. The drive to the gate through the olive fields is a bit challenging because the road is not totally paved and quite bumpy.

Io e la mia famiglia ci siamo trovati bene. Questo Agriturismo si trova in una posizione strategica per visitare Lucca e dintorni. Vicino a Collodi dove c'è il parco tematico di Pinocchio. L'agriturismo si presta bene anche per chi vuole rilassarsi. Immerso nel verde adatto anche per i bambini essendoci un bel giardino privato ed anche in comune con divanetti comodi. Anche la piscina fa la differenza. Consigliato.

Wir hatten einen angenehmen Aufenthalt in der Villa. Die Zimmer waren etwas dunkel, das ist im Sommer aber wahrscheinlich sehr angenehm. Positiv überrascht waren wir von dem tollen Pool und den auf dem Grundstück verteilten Gelegenheiten sich auch draußen aufzuhalten (Tische Stühle). Die Zufahrt ist sehr steil und teilweise auf einem sehr engen, unebenem und geschottertem Feldweg. Für tiefergelegte Fahrzeuge dürfte die Erreichbarkeit schwierig sein. Für normale Fahrzeuge (Ford Focus) ist es eine Herausforderung.

Wundervolle Ferienwohnung

Die Unterkunft liegt super abgelegen und ruhig in einer Hanglage zwischen Olivenfeldern. Die Ferienwohnung war sehr sauber, hübsch eingerichtet und gut ausgestattet. Wir haben uns gleich sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Wiese vor der Unterkunft mit den Olivenbäumen lädt zum Frühstücken oder zum Abendessen ein. Auch am Pool konnte man die Seele baumeln lassen, ein Buch lesen oder sich im Wasser einfach mal abkühlen. Ein perfekter Ort für einen entspannten Familienurlaub.

der perfekte Toskana Urlaub / perfect tuscany holiday

Ein rund um perfekter Urlaub in Jim's Apartment, liebevoll und modern eingerichtet, es fehlt an nichts, wenn was benötigt wird, ist Jim stets ansprechbar. Er hat uns persönlich empfangen und alles gezeigt. Die Lage nah an Lucca, Pisa und Florenz ist optimal. Das Frühstück mit Blick auf die Olivenhänge und der Pool im Garten wundervoll zum Abschalten. A perfect vacation in Jim's apartment, lovely, wonderful and modern furnished, nothing is missing, if something is needed, Jim is always available. He met us personally and introduced us everything. The location close to Lucca, Pisa and Florence is ideal. The breakfast with a view of the olive slopes and the pool in the garden were wonderful to relax.

Wunderbar - traumhafte Lage, super in Schuss, super ausgestattet, mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail aus einer Ruine geformt, Natur wo man hinsieht, und ein zuvorkommender Gastgeber; wir fühlten uns sofort wie zu hause. Strichen liebend gerne einige unserer Sightseeingpläne um stattdessen Pool und Aussicht zu geniessen, oder ein Glas Wein unter den Olivenbäumen. Zum Glück erlaubte es uns die Belegung, spontan noch einen Tag länger zu bleiben!

29.8.2021 Das Apartment in den Hügeln von Capannori ist wunderbar. Ruhig gelegen, wunderbare Einrichtung, tolle Betten, fantastischer Pool, Garten zum Abendessen unter Olivenbäumen. Was will man mehr. Ein toller Ort um zu entspannen oder die Sehenswürdigkeiten der Umgebung zu erkunden. Jim war ein hervorragender, freundlicher Gastgeber der immer ansprechbar war. 100% Empfehlung Wir kommen gerne wieder. T.L. PS: in den Hügeln oberhalb der des Apartments liegt das Restaurant" Il Corno Rosso". Bestes "Bistecca Fiorentina" in der ganzen Gegend. Hervorragend !!!

Great place great people

The property is exactly as described - the overall standard is very high and Jim and his wife were great, helped us with little queries and nothing was too much trouble. We really enjoyed the place - a few miles outside Lucca so nice and quiet but so easy to get everywhere really easy. Accommodation was really good with the attention to detail that made it special. We would highly recommend.

Fantastic apartment set in beautiful surroundings,

We stayed at Casa Santo for a week in August, as soon as we arrived we were blown away by the surroundings and house itself. Beautiful decorated and the standard is very impressive. When we arrived Jim (host) was there to meet us and show us around, the welcome pack in the room was perfect from pasta, coffee, biscuits and prosecco! After a day of travelling we felt so welcomed and relaxed. All the children wanted to do was get in the pool which has a back drop of the Italian hills, a perfect setting to relax and enjoy. Perfect location to visit Lucca, Florence, Pisa and Cinque Terre to name a few. Jim is very knowledgeable of the area and helped with our decisions of how to spend our time in Italy. Local supermarket only 10 minute drive. We loved our stay and will definitely be coming back, hopefully with other family and friends who can stay in the other apartments. A great start to our Italian adventure.

A Delight

Our entire family - three generations - stayed in various apartments at il Borghetto over the course of almost a month. Each apartment is beautifully appointed with comfortable stylish furnishings and a tasteful combination of old and new. Our host Jim was extremely helpful and accommodating, from making the bookings to being there to welcome us. Il Borghetto's location makes it easy to visit Lucca, Pisa and Florence. At the end of each day of touring it was wonderful to relax by the pool and enjoy dinner under the olive trees. We would certainly stay again.

Great apartment

We loved our stay in the ground floor apartment with 2 bedrooms. Beautifully furnished and an outside table for meals. Four apartments were lived in (total 19 guests), however most days there were only 1 or 2 families by the pool - which is wonderful. Lucca isnt far, and we drove there for early morning runs around the walls and gelato trips at night. Lovely area and Jim was a fabulous host. We would definitely stay here again.

MUCH MORE THAN EXPECTED !

It is with great pleasure that I leave this comment on our 1 week stay at Jim's Home - This is a tradiitional house entirely refurbished with high quality materials and good taste. We occupied the ground floor with a 2 bedroom apartment each had its own bathroom. Don't be afraid when you arrive as you have to drive only few minutes on a trail and at the end you get the surprise of a beautiful doorway opening on a beautiful domain. The swiimming pool is just up the slope and this gives a beautiful panoramic all around while you enjoy swimming. YOu can make your own BBQ, enjoy walking to the village, have a rest all day by the swimming pool which is big enough for a good swim. We enjoyed : having our breakfast by the swimming pool or under the olivier tree, enjoyed our beds and good nights with no noise, enjoyed watching the stars at night, enjoyed Jim's excellent host by his warm welcome, his welcome gift, and his kindness. To my point of view this place is suitable for families but also couples, friends and Lucca is only 10 mns away. Do not miss Montecarlo where you will find excellent restaurants there and plse get lost in the countryside which is great. From there easy access to PISA, CINQUETERRA and CARRARA and also FIRENZE; I love to think that some people like Jim give you the opportunity to spend some good time as if you were in paradise. Thank you so much for this place Jim and I envy all the people who will have the chance to come again and again. Lovely stay in Lucca

2 couples in the 2 bedroom apartment in Lucca - lovely stay! Jim, the owner, greeted us with a much appreciated welcome basket and gave us great tips on planning our 4 days in the area. And as wonderful as it was to visit the surrounding towns and wineries, one of the best days was spent hanging out at the pool, drinking local wine and enjoying the view and peacefulness the property provided. Highly recommend!

Top Spot in Tuscany

We loved our stay at Il Borgetto. It was the perfect getaway holiday destination. The accommodation has been thoughtfully restored and rebuilt with much attention to detail. The location is beautiful, overlooking olive groves, vineyard and peaceful valley. Our apartment was very nicely appointed, modern with stylish fittings. It was comfortable and made for easy living. Every modern convenience was at our finger tips. With the temperature getting a little chilly, we tried the in-floor heating. It worked quickly and kept us toasty and comfortable. Our host, Jim, took care of all our needs. From the welcome basket of Italian goodies to get us started, to the recommendations on wonderful restaurants and nearby wineries and markets, he was helpful and charming. We have a big family birthday next year and are thinking of returning - we noticed there are a couple of other apartments for rent, all beautifully prepared and perfect for our large extended family. We are also looking forward to using the pool next time we come. Sadly, it was a little chilly for swimming this time. If you are looking for a place in Italy for a getaway, we would recommend Il Borgetto. It was the perfect holiday for us.
