Overview

About the property

This 4 BR 4 1/2 bath waterfront home is in a peaceful private & gated communit

This home is very comfortable and great layout to accommodate a large family or a couple families. All BR's have private baths along with main floor 1/2. Privacy and Serenity is how many describe this home located on a private dead end culdesack in a gated community. Only 8 homes on the road and the front of the home looks over a common area field and Vinyards.

Once you step into the home and see the views of the lake and quiet cove on the beautiful end of Lake Keowee, you may not want to go home. The views are spectacular, and the water and private dock and beach are just steps away. Bring your own boat or talk with me about using my pontoon if available. I also provide floats, life jackets, a 1 person Kayak, a 3 person Kayak, a 3 Person Canoe for use during your stay. Also lots of floats and other lake equipment you'll find fun like horse shoes and Cornhole.

The water off the back of the home is a private cove with only 6 homes to the left of my dock and hardly any boat traffic. The sunsets and stars at night will amaze you.

The kitchen is stocked with all the cooking supplies and utensils you will need and there is a second refrigerator in the attached 2 car garage.

About Bill Russell

I'm an active single father of 3 who owns a business but takes great personal pride in my homes I have on VRBO - HomeAway. It will feel "like home" if you chose to stay at one of my locations because I live in each of them throughout the year and keep them in great shape. If there is anything you need, just ask.

Why Bill Russell chose World

Location! In this beautiful gated community, just driving into the home is spectacular. The home is at the end of a cul-de-sac looking across at an open field. Homes to the left and right are situated perfectly to provide privacy and the rear is right on the water in a short cove shared by a few other homes. Very private, safe and secluded from the normal hustle and bustle of loud lake front homes.

The layout is great. Lots of privacy and the screened in porch overlooking the water is amazing. Kids can be swimming down at the lake, off the dock, or kayaking around the water and they will always be in your sight. (coming from a protective father). The water is perfect, and clean and the mountain views around the lake and the entire area in general is just breathtaking.

Across the lake about 100 yards is all protected state owned land so the views will always be the same looking out over the lake.

What makes this house unique

I allow folks to use all my "water toys" to use in and around the lake. A dozen life jackets, lots of other fun "floaty things", a 3 person Kayak, a fishing Kayak, a 3 person canoe, a Corn Hole Game which is fun in the driveway or even the garage on a rainy day, and many others but just show up and it will be a great time.

Absolutely stunning!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything you see in the pictures and more. It’s very quiet, far away from the main road and away from the main part of the lake. No loud trucks going up and down the highway and no jet skis going around in circles in front of the dock. It’s very secluded and gives the impression that the lake is all yours. It’s all woods across the water. The amount of wildlife in the area was great to see. We saw countless deer, ducks, turkeys, squirrels, and a few beavers. There were a few bass to catch towards the center of the cove, a few brim around the rocks, but you will be amazed by the numbers of catfish. Numerous catfish were caught. The largest was 20 pounds and it was thrown back so good luck!! If you venture out in the kayaks keep to the left and find where the creek comes into the lake. It’s cool to feel the change in water temperature as you get to where it enters into the lake. Don’t forget go out at night and look up. Being away from the city lights gives you a breathtaking view of the night sky.

The house itself was great. Everything works. With 4 baths I was afraid there would not be enough hot water, but I was proved wrong. The internet service is faster than what I get home in Raleigh. Outside the neighborhood cell phone service(Verizon) was almost nothing, but at the house it was great. Grilling on the porch with the view was wonderful. All the necessities were there to prepare meals, and eat. We choose to stay home and eat. Most restaurants are towards the Seneca area. Closet grocery store is in Pickens. Its 24 mins away, but it’s a great drive through the country.

If a boat is available, I suggest 2 places on the lake to eat. The first is “Lighthouse.” It’s about a 30 minute cruise down the lake on the left hand side. The restaurant on the top of the hill has a very nice menu of surf and turf options. Beer and wine selection is great, and the shrimp and grits is top notch. If you are in for a slightly less fancy option there is also the “Cabana” below the lighthouse which is mainly bar foods and brews. If you are up for a real adventure, the “tiki hut” is an excellent place to find something to eat and drink. It is a bit over an hour to get there and you will need to leave with plenty of fuel. It’s all the way at the southern end of the lake. Next to their dock is the fuel dock, so you can gas back up there.

The owner was very welcoming and accommodating. Nothing was a problem. I would not hesitate to book with him again.

Great family place!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home on beautiful property. We had 8 adults and 4 children and we were all comfortable. Had a great time. Bill was the perfect host- attentive without being intrusive. Loved it and hope our future plans include coming back. Only minor suggestion would be to repair/replace the bag chairs down on the piers- other than that- it was perfect!

Awesome vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable, well stocked and we felt right at home. The lake was beautiful and we only left the house one day to go to the Biltmore. We brought our boat and it was easy to launch and store our trailer. We will definitely try and come back here again!!

Beautiful lake in an upscale community with some hiccups

  • 3 of 5

We rented this home in order to have direct access to the lake. It was a very nice house in a beautiful gated community. We chose it over other similar rentals because the owner said we could use his pontoon boat, and because there was a small sandy beach area that we thought would be perfect for our toddler. Unfortunately right before our arrival date the pontoon boat was broken, and when we got there it seems the water level was very high on the lake and the little beach was totally under water. That was a big bummer and made it hard to do anything with the toddler because he just tried to walk off the end of the dock the whole time we were there. We ended up finding a pontoon rental nearby but the rates were 2 to 3 times higher than pontoon rentals on Dandridge or Watauga lake. Lake Jocassee had waterfalls you could drive the boat right up to, so that was probably the highlight of the trip. The house was nice and clean with plenty of bedrooms. You may need to bring all of your own hand soaps for all the bathrooms, and dish soap for the kitchen because there was none. The closest store was about 20 minutes away which was a pain since we had just driven a couple hours to get there. If you need lots of room and want to be right on the water, this place is a good option, but make sure you come prepared with everything you need, and rent a boat ahead of time or you may find yourself scrambling.

Owner's Response: Mother Nature hiccups and so do renters. I am very sorry Mother Nature decided to dump 3 times the normal rainfall in the month preceding this reservation taking the water level to the very highest level (controlled by Duke Energy & not me). I have a beach along the lake, and also a second small beech down in the water and pretty clear to see in the VRBO photos…but with the rainfall and water level so high, mine and most every beech on the lake was under water during their stay. I’m also sorry that the pontoon had engine damage and was wrecked about 30 days before the visit by a guest making it inoperable ($11,000 of damage to engine, stripped transmission & body damage and it’s being returned on August 1st with a brand new engine). I explain in detail through messages and also talk to every renter to explain that the 18 year old pontoon is great and fun…but I am not a rental agency and if anything is inoperable, damaged, or unsafe...it may not be available and to not base their time at the home on the Pontoon availability and to have a plan B. I sent out an email the day I realized the pontoon would be out of commission in Mid June & called this renter with the update. Plenty of time to make other plans. I’m sorry that the pontoon rental rates on Lake Keowee are higher than other lakes I DO provide laundry, Dawn, and dish detergent, along with hand soap for all 5 bathrooms. I don’t know how all of these were out of stock during this visit, but I do supply all of these. And Finally, I’m VERY sorry they didn’t mention that after finding out they were bringing an infant that I fished out, cleaned up, and put every life jacket I could find for small kids in a closet inside the home, I also purchased a brand new Pack & Play, along with a brand new High Chair just for their child. I drove 90 minutes one way and delivered to the lake house before they arrived and assembled everything to help make their trip better and to prevent them from having to bring those items along. That was almost a full day and about $200 just to make things easier on them. I aim to please and bend over backwards to do everything within my power to provide a wonderful experience and have nothing but 5 star reviews on this property. I truly regret this renter gave me a lower ranking based on things completely out of my control, but I do understand disappointment…but I hope this helps to explain, “The rest of the story”. Cheers and read the other reviews!

Despite some embarrassment and disappointment, we had a wonderful time at this beautiful lakefront home.

Embarrassment due to the fact that we were really not supposed to be using the fitness center, and were told specifically by the instructor that we were not allowed to use the amenities. Amenities that we were told were available to us. At the pool, we were questioned several times, people asking us if we were part timers or full timers. I tried to avoid conversation. It made me very uncomfortable.

We were also planning to try paddle boarding for the first time, but there were no paddle

boards. When I mentioned this to Bill, he told me they had been stolen and that he would bring two paddle boards on Monday or Tuesday, They never appeared. I also was so disappointed in the 'lake toys", hones

tly, there were four

or

five

noodles and two mesh floating rings and that was it. The description said that there were a lot of lake toys. When I told Bill that the kayak paddles were missing, he argued with me and then made a snide remark to me, sarcastic, I think, though it is hard to tell the tone of a text. I just ignored and we made the best of this beautiful home. Well equipped, comfortable beds, great linens. beautiful view and quiet cove.

The second fridge was so full of half used bottles of ketchup and other stuff that we could not use it as overflow. And the garage was messy and full of old mattresses and boxes, it was not conducive for storage for our bikes, strollers, fishing equipment, etc.

We had a great time, despite these disappointments and embarrassments;

our Mom taught us to make lemonade when life gives you lemons. The lemons were certainly there.

Owner's Response: This guest forgot to mention I purchased a new baby chair and portable crib and delivered it before their stay to keep them from having to pack so much I answer every question, I don’t argue, and don’t make snide remarks. In the months leading into this visit, the renter and I had 30 texts with a lot of questions/answers, 42 back & forth messages through VRBO and a dozen or so phone calls most importantly talking about the pontoon and it not being a part of the rental, and as I always say, “the previous guest could wreck it, so don’t plan you trip and booking on it’s availability”. I’d guess we “communicated somehow” close to 90-100 times. With an average renter, we exchange a dozen messages at the most. Unfortunately for me and summer June/July guests, the boat’s engine/transmission was badly damaged beyond repair. I now has new engine with an $11,000 price tag. I am sorry my introductory email that was sent by VRBO, Text, and also by regular email to this guest including the new rules adopted by the community that guests are NOT allowed to use the exercise facility or the pool was overlooked or deleted. I spent a special additional message when I found about this to every guest booked from mid June through the end of August specifically talking about the inoperable pontoon and the new rules. I did have 2 of my paddle boards disappear at some point in the month prior to their stay. I Immediately updated the website, mentioned I would try to deliver a couple (I live 90 minutes away), but I ran into some issues at home and just ran out of time to make that special trip. I’ve rented lake houses with a dock only…so purchasing and allowing guest to use all my “toys” seems nice, and ones definition of a LOT varies but my site is specific and stays updated. 2 Kayaks and a Canoe, several floats and a variety of noodles, a big yellow tube that apparently is broken, along with kids mesh things and a full locker of other “things”, I would describe as a lot. I was not aware of some paddles missing. No previous complaints after a year of guests. The fridge in the garage is my owners fridge, not an overflow. I let people know they are welcome to grab anything or condiments out of there if they need it vs. running to the store. Main kitchen has large fridge and haven’t had any complaints about lack of space for this 4 BR home. I did a LOT of work to make this guest happy. I’m sorry they had some issues.
