Mwendawima Villa is a private beach villa located in the village of Jambiani, overlooking the most beautiful lagoon in East Africa.

The villa has 4 bedrooms, swimming pool, AC in the bedrooms, tropical garden and a terrace with ocean views. It accommodates up to 8 guests:
1 En-suite master bedroom with direct access to ocean view terrace
1 En-suite double bedroom with garden view
2 double bedroom with garden view and shared bathroom

It comes with a dedicated team that takes care of everything from daily cleaning to preparing delicious meals to organising excursions. Your stay will be personalised to cater for your needs and preferences.

Mwendawima Villa is inspired by Swahili architecture and with a focus on your comfort.

The property has a pool, large sea view terrace with a bar, lounge, sun beds and dining areas. It comes with a well equipped kitchen, lounge and a beautiful private garden.
The daily rate includes housekeeping and breakfast, unlimited WiFi and security. At additional cost we offer excellent lunches and dinners.

Mwendawima Villa is situated in a charming fishing village of Jambiani, on the south-east coast of Zanzibar. Jambiani is known for the most dramatic lagoon, with traditional fishing, seaweed farming, snorkelling and kite surfing on your door step. There are plenty of boutique hotels and restaurants for food and drinks, but we insist you try our team's authentic cooking.

Our location is perfect for both experiencing the real Zanzibari village and taking advantage of the best day trips and activities Zanzibar has to offer.

Due to the nature of electricity supply in Zanzibar, you might experience occasional government power cuts, which might temporarily affect the electricity and water supply. These events are not frequent and this is not due to a fault or issue with our property amenities.

If you need power during a power cut please ask the staff to switch on the generator.

PLEASE NOTE: in the unlikely event of a power cut the backup generator does NOT permit the use of air conditioning.

We spend 10 days in this extraordinary villa. Everything was better than we expected and we had one of the most beautiful vacations there.Very special is the staff on site. Always helpful, supportive and sharp on time.The villa got cleaned every single day and we can strongly recommend the use of the chef service.She surprised us every day with fresh and homage local food. This just topped up our stay.I can highly recommend this amazing place if you are looking for and extraordinary and peaceful vacation with your family.Thank you Raphael and Team!

Great Villa!

This is a fabulous home with plenty of space and a great location. Khatib, the house manager was extremely helpful with suggestions, organizing rides and answering questions. We were able to walk to restaurants and water sports. We would stay here again, it is a gem!

We really enjoyed the house. Team in the house were amazing. They cooked lunch for us and friends, 14 people in total on Christmas Day. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious. The house manager organised all activities and taxis. Only negative is there is no air conditioning in the main bedroom. Highly recommend this house.

The property was gorgeous, clean and very well maintained. The staff was incredible except for the property manager who really did not do anything. The staff was great and the meals they made were delicious. Beach was awesome. Only complaint I have is that I paid to rent the whole house and we were told at the last minute that the top floor was already rented. Turns out the people who were renting it were awesome. Regardless,we do expect a partial refund

Gorgeous!!

From the start, communication with Property Host then Property Manager was timely and clear. Our airport pick-up was arranged, a meal prepared upon arrival as discussed. The villa is stunning! Spotless and incredibly cool (literally & figuratively) with a Moroccan flare. And the grounds, absolutely gorgeous and private. We loved the privacy of the backyard and the amazing views from the upstairs patio. Chef Naa created delicious, fresh meals. Saide by her side, communicating with us on meal time and desires. We were very well taken care of and also given much privacy outside of meal prep/times. If you value comfort, location, privacy this is the villa to stay.

Awesome 4 night stay

Mwendawima was the perfect stay for us to end our 3 week safari visit to Tanzania and Kenya. This was our first visit to Zanzibar so we weren’t completely sure which area we should stay…and this place didn’t disappoint! Step out of the gate onto beautiful, super fine white sand for long beach walks or a swim in warm water. There we many locals trying to sell you things but in the big picture they were not pushy or annoying (as we found in other ares on our trip). Khatib, our host, was there to greet us and was very responsive to any inquiries we had. The house was clean and comfortable with a great private yard to relax in. Breakfast was served every morning with fresh fruit, eggs, bread and crepes. Two of the evenings we had dinner made for us. Delicious 3 course meals. The other two nights we walked up the beach and found great options for dinners out. The area is not highly developed and very much grass roots small town local…everyone we encountered at Jambiani Beach was friendly and inviting. Be aware of “Crazy Mondays” live music venue nearby which went on until 3AM. You will likely know every song played :). Otherwise, the neighborhood felt safe and was quiet. We were visited by some red colobus monkeys which were very cool to watch up close. All in all, we were very happy with our stay.

Lovely house with great staff

Six adults spent our Christmas here and it was terrific. The beach front location of the house could not have been better. We barely needed shoes for the 10 days we were there as everything was within walking distance along the beach. This beach is very tidal so when the tide is out you have to use the pools and sun beds in the small hotels along the beach. The house however was the highlight. Breakfast was included and delicious. It was served on the roof terrace every morning. The best chef in the area was Sadie. He cooked various local dishes for us, each one better than the last. The house was kept impeccable and beds were changed almost daily. We loved our time here and would recommend it to anyone thinking of travelling to Zanzibar.

Beautiful Villa, Excellent Staff, Fabulous Experience

Our group of 5 stayed at the villa from Feb 8-14 2025. From the moment of our booking, 6 months in advance, the property owners and manager were exceptional with communication. Answered all our questions and organized any extra preferences. Daily housekeeping staff were fantastic, they ensured all cleaning, changing of linens and towels, etc, was done while we were having breakfast, as not to disturb us. The in-house chefs who prepared 90% of our meals, on request, should be running their own restaurant. Absolutely exceptional. Hatibu, the manger, is beyond helpful. He organized everything we requested and even accommodated a last minute dinner request for 5 people. He even accommodated a late check out since our return flight was late and next group was not coming in until next day. The location of house is amazing, 30 second walk to beach. The area is a bit further from some other areas that we chose to visit but we were fully aware when booking. Overall, exceptional stay and would completely recommend.

Beautiful gem of a property

This house was just a gem - it was very clean and better than advertised. The outdoor living areas are expansive and very functional for people to spread out. The daily breakfast crew and cleaning crew were very subtle and provided exceptional service. A couple of things we had to adjust to were: 1. no blankets on the beds/ just sheets. I'm assuming this is an overall Africa trend but I found that I was very chilly at night! 2. there was significant rain on two days which made things a little awkward for eating as there wasn't really an indoor eating option. We made it work but an indoor eating option for rainy weather might be helpful. Those two things were very minor and did not impact our experience negatively at all. We did outings arranged with the house manager to include massages at the house (AMAZING) , driver to a few venues (Rashid was wonderful), swimming with dolphins (not my favorite - that was a bit chaotic), Captain Pete's wooden boat (ummmm, our boat sunk but that made for quite a story) and a private chef meal one night (this was outstanding). There are lots of little restaurants/ bars walkable on the beach. The beach is amazing. We used the driver for the villa for all transportation. I'm not sure we would have felt comfortable with a rental car on those roads. Our group included three adult couples. Everyone had plenty of space and each couple had their own bathroom. Pictures do not do this property justice!

Loved this villa...grt staff especially Nasera and Syiad. They made a lovely bday cake for our son.

Good location although was noisy at times due to building work across from the property. Grt Comunication with the owner and nrg. Relaxing hol. Staff were grt and even helped our youngest son in getting a sea urchin sting out if his foot.

Pampered in Jambiani

The beach villa exceeded our expectations. The Moraccan decor/style was charming and the outdoor spaces were incredible. The backyard was like a beach oasis and we enjoyed our breakfast on the back porch every morning. Our dinner was served on the rooftop dining table where we enjoyed the gorgeous sunset every evening. Chef Siadi prepared 3 delicious meals every day. Breakfast was included while lunch and dinner were more than reasonably priced. Dinner always included a delicious soup except the night we were treated to a succulent crab salad. Siadi made sure we were happy with his menus. Oh, I might add, daily housekeeping was included. It was always a surprise to see how the bed was beautifully made up each day. All in all, the villa was incredible and we felt totally pampered by the staff. Stay here, and enjoy the best stay in Jambiani! Side note: Kapuga Villas Bar was a short stroll down the beach. (take a left when you reach the beach) They had happy hour 5-7 daily. Friendly bar staff!

Beautiful Zen Getaway

Loved the layout and style of this house. The pictures do not do it, justice! It was beautiful and right by the beach next to a small cafe. The staff and chef were friendly, plus there was a nightguard, which made us feel safe. My only complaint was the staff seemed to stay in the house for a long time in the morning for breakfast and at night for dinner. It felt more like we were guests staying at someone else's house versus feeling like it was ours. That might not bother some people, but it was a noticeable presence for me.

Zanzibar villa

This is an amazing property. Villa is very spacious, clean and very authentic. Architecture is pretty unique and gives you a feel of ancient Spain combined with luxury. We hired chef Mohamed, who was amazing. He worked with a crew of 3 other team members, and cooked some amazing seafood dinners for us. Food was fresh and made from scratch. The place is right on the beach and allows easy access to beach from bars and restaurants. The beach was also not too crowded and we were able to relax and enjoy the scenery. Also, Jiambiani is away from the craziness and crowds of tourists near stone town, and offered a truly relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend the villa to anybody looking to stay in Zanzibar

Perfect on all accounts

Had a most awesome stay at this wonderful house just a few steps from the ocean. The house is large and with a great layout for our large family (4 adults, 4 kids). The staff is beyond great! So friendly and helpful and never intrusive. Mohammed is a 5-star chef and ALL of our meals were outstanding. Hatibu the manager/driver is so great. Very professional and a lot of fun to interact with. There is a reason Raphael and his team get so many 5-star reviews. Thanks for an awesome week.

The ultimate getaway

Rafael and his wonderful team were the best hosts. We enjoyed gourmet chef prepared meals every evening and morning in a beautiful and relaxed setting. Chef Mohamed and his team were lovely. He even prepared our fresh fish catch from our fishing excursion. The home is wonderfully decorated in local style and location right on the beach can’t be beat. We will be back!

Amazing Villa Experience

What a wonderful, grounding beach vacation! This 4 bed/3bath house was exactly what we needed. With 2 teens and a grown up son home from Uni we were looking for something very lo-key and good value. While the house had wifi on the first floor, overall it was a lo tech vacation. The house is made of block with plaster over it, a style I quite like. The furnishings are local and simple wood and cushions/mattresses. There are fans and mosquito netting. No AC (didn't need it at all), no TV (really didn't need it!) but also no screens so your protection against bugs are old fashioned cleaning, netting, wind, and geckos. I am NOT a bug person, having barely survived Cicada-geddon 1987. So when I walked in I worried I would not be able to handle staying. I was surprised how effective the house and staff were at keeping the place bug free/ light. Speaking of the staff, they were a highlight! We took Mohammed up on his meals for dinner and they were spectacular. One night, over suggestions by our driver/wrangler/POC, we went to the Rock for our anniversary. Obviously we left the kids to eat at the Villa. They def had the better meal! The cleaners were sweet and did laundry for us. Hatibi (driver/wrangler) was prompt and helpful, arranging boat tours for us and being at our disposal for rides even after we left the Villa for the city. The ocean is very shallow at lower tides - you can walk more than a mile out at the lowest. The village has a few shops for bare necessity dry items and fruit. My suggestion would be to bring bug spray, sand toys, beach mats/blankets, and dried snacks (we could find Pringles and cookies at the larger markets). There is a market where we got loads of Ramen/Koka noodles to use as lunch. The restaurants on the beach are convenient but pricey and def not as good as Mohammed. I would use with them for cold beer but not much else. If you are looking for glorified Glamping (with a chef and cleaners) then this is the place! We loved our 11 days there!

Paradise Foe 6 Days

What a lovely place to stay! We were 3 couples ending our 9 day safari with a 6 night stay in Zanzibar to rest and refresh, and had an absolutely wonderful experience. Let me start by saying that the owner, Raphael, answered all of my many questions promptly and had good advice for our arrival. Our plane in to Zanzibar was delayed by several hours and although communication was difficult, he was able to respond to a late e-mail. A couple of minor issues within the facility were resolved by the staff within a few hours. As an owner on VRBO also, I can truly appreciate his responsiveness and communication skills. Mwendawima Villa is a beautiful place to stay, but what is most exceptional about it is the staff. Hatibu, the manager, greeted us at the airport, and even though we had a car rental, he conveyed one couple and some baggage to the villa promptly. I would not have wanted to negotiate it myself after dark. He had many good pieces of advice for us and met frequently throughout our stay to make sure that everything was perfect for us. Next came Chef Mohammed and his crew. Chef has to be the best on the island as his meals were just outstanding. One would be silly to drive out to an expensive restaurant and miss any of Mohammed's creations. We had lobster two nights by request. Two of our group grew up in Maine and one went every summer as a child and all three agreed his lobster was sweeter than Maine lobster. Every other creation was merely fabulous. One other thing about Mohammed...he is well-known on the beach. When you are being bothered by "Captain" Louis or whomever...just mention that you will check with Mohammed and they tend to disappear. And if you are encouraged to do so, you can bet Mohammed will vouch for that person. Then there were Saidi, Nasra, and Nihifadhi who waited on us, cleaned up after us, and were always smiling, pleasant, and patient. They all are indelibly pressed into our memory banks. We would hope to return someday, just to be with them again! One last thing...tips are important to these folks. They earned every shilling that we gave them. If you can go to Mwendawima Villa, and I recommend it highly, be generous.

Wish we stayed longer...

This place is incredible! It's literally right on the beach of crystal clear water. The property is lovely. Even though there is no AC, there are fans and the ocean breeze keeps it comfortable at night. I loved the firm mattress and the quality of the mosquito nets. There are so many different nooks to enjoy on the property from the upper deck to the private little outdoor seating areas. I've already been trying to spark interest with my friends for another trip back. The property is nice, but what made the experience was the lovely staff. Mohammed and his team prepared a hearty breakfast for us. We opted to have him cook for us every night and even added in a lunch on the last day just because we knew we'll miss him so! He made us tons of fresh seafood... Initially, we had planned to go out to eat... But he surprised us every night with some new dish that we decided to not even both with the local beach shacks. If you can have 5 star service in the convenience of your own property, why not? The daily housekeeping was a pleasant surprise. The property manager, Haribitu (spelling?) was lovely and always available. We recommend the Blue Lagoon snorkeling tour. If we had more time, we would have been interested in seeing the Spice Tour. I guess we'll just have to come back. Thanks for a lovely time.

Fantastic stay, a place to get away from it all.

We stayed for 12 nights in January 2019 and rented to whole property. The house could not be closer to the beach, right on the doorstep, the bedrooms are comfortable and equipped with both ceiling fans and portable fans and there's was plenty of space for our 7 person party. We enjoyed the roof terrance and it was fabulous to eat breakfast overlooking the clear blue ocean, the view is amazing. There are plenty of beach bars and restaraunts within walking distance along the beach, and a few shops for supplies in Page. Most evenings we chose to eat at the property as Mohammed and his team were absolutely fantastic, I cannot shower enough praise on them, the food was wonderful and they even made me a birthday cake one evening. The staff were so friendly and welcoming we were really sad to leave them, Rapael was also great and was quick to answer any queries prior to our visit and contacted us whilst we were there just to check everything was going well, Kim the house manager was on hand to organise any trios or transport we needed, all in all we had a lovely memorable holiday and would recommend this property to anyone travelling to Zanzibar.

Fantastic Staff and Location!

The villa was perfect for our week-long stay in Jambiani. Muhammed, Said and the ladies were ever-attentive. The fenced yard was great for our puppy who enjoyed all the new smells! Beds were comfy, views from the rooftop veranda fabulous and location can't be beat! Highly recommend it!

Underbart ställe /lovely place

Vi har haft en underbar vistelse i Zanzibar. Mwendawima villa är ett underbart hus med plats för många. Vi blev så väl bemötta av alla när vi kom. Kim som ordnade skjuts åt oss närhelst vi ville se delar av ön men framförallt till vår trevlige kock Mohammed och hans team. Det var inga problem att laga högklassiga 3- rätters middagar till oss varje kväll trots att vår ena dotter är glutenintollerant/ celiaki. Vi hade med oss hennes mjöl, pasta och bröd men han fixade hennes pannkakor till frukost och samma mat till henne som alla andra i följet på kvällen. Det betydde så mycket för oss alla att Mohammed inte såg glutenintolerans som ett problem utan allt var lösbart. Vi hade printat ut kort från Celiakiförbundet på swahili som han fick av oss. Vi kan bara rekommendera "Mwendawima villa" till alla och kan varmt rekommendera att även anlita Mohammed under er vistelse. // Jeanette We can highly recomend Mwengawima Villa. You should absolutely let the chef Mohammed make your dinner in the evening. It tasted so good every evening, delicious food. Our daughter have celiaki and can't eat the same food as the rest, but it was no problem for Mohammed. We recommend this place👍👍👍

A Memorable Family Experience

We were a family of 8, including 2 children (8 and 10) starting our vacation in Zanzibar. Raphael was very responsive, answering all my questions before arriving at Mwendawima Villa. Kim's brother Kamaka greeted us at the airport and also did the transports to our snorkelling and back to Stone Town which was very easy, friendly and worry free. The villa was so comfortable for us to relax and enjoy being a family after a very long flight from Canada. Every night I watched the stars from the top terrace with my grandchildren. We were totally spoiled with the meals prepared by Mohammed (weeks later and I am still thinking of them!). All of the staff were wonderful ....such a treat to have our laundry done and beds beautifully made up each day. The easy and safe beach was so great, the kids could head down by themselves so it was very relaxing for everyone. The colours are so beautiful and the waters very interesting and warm. I was glad that one review mentioned bringing water shoes as we appreciated bringing ours. We loved the top patio and enjoyed all our meals there. Did I mention the breakfasts? ...or the samosas'.....? Fabulous! A truly memorable time. Too bad it is so far for us to travel as we would all love to return.

A real treat

This is a wonderful villa at Jambiani. The is a great team who cook delicious meals catering to every taste. The villa is cool and breezy with many places to sit and relax.
