About this property

double room ensuite cosy

Don’t let the name mislead you, there’s more than enough room in our Cosy’s to rest those weary legs.

All rooms come complete with: Nespresso coffee machine & tea making facilities, eco friendly toiletries by Walter Geering, dressing table with mirror & stool, Hairdryer, Robert’s Radio & bathrobes.
Our stylish restaurant with its contemporary décor offers wonderful modern British and European cuisine to both residents and non residents – open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we offer an A la Carte menu.
We are also renowned locally and as far as Chester, Shrewsbury and beyond for our delicious Sunday lunches which, such is their popularity, have to be booked well in advance.

Our chic bar is the perfect place to relax. In these contemporary, yet comfortable, surroundings why not enjoy a cocktail, a meal, a coffee – read a book, enjoy the views or chat with friends or colleagues – we like to think that our bar pays homage to convivial congeniality and we hope you do too

Our magnificent function room can cater for wedding parties, birthday parties, anniversaries, in fact just about anything that you feel like having a party for! We are also licensed to hold civil ceremonies at the Sweeney.

Proving to be very very popular are our Exclusive Use Weddings – please feel free to call and enquire about this option or any other information regarding any function at the Sweeney.

Location: 2 miles from the historic market town of Oswestry, 17 miles from the medieval town of Shrewsbury and 25 miles from the famous Roman town of Chester – we are conveniently placed for all by road or rail. Manchester and Liverpool too are easily accessible by car. (Please note all distances are approximate).

Shopping and Entertainment – Both Shrewsbury and Chester are excellent for shopping and a few miles outside Chester is Cheshire Oaks – one of the country’s biggest outlet villages. Chester has its own race course and is also home to one of the UK’s best zoos.
The Sweeney is also 12 miles from Llangollen which plays host to the International Eistethfod each year.

Very enjoyable first stay at Sweeney Hall

A last minute booking which was very good value. Hotel was characterful and welcoming. Our cosy double room was clean and had everything we needed. Dinner was of good quality, in nice surroundings. Breakfast had many choices available and was of excellent quality. We look forward to returning again, as the location is well suited for visiting a range of places.

I loved it

The setting was exceptional absolutely beautiful grounds to walk around. My room was delightful. Staff friendly and efficient. First time I have stayed in a hotel with the dog and we were both made to feel very welcome. This was a mid week work trip and it was a pleasure. Thank you

Cold Shower!

Comfortable bed and friendly staff. We had no hot water to the shower so we went home for a shower instead. No gym or pool at this hotel, which we knew before staying. Overall decor could do with brightening up as it is quite drab and dated. Ground floor carpets would benefit from a carpet cleaner or replacement.

Great location and building, but with a lot of short-comings.

Location, grounds, recent refurbishment made the hotel appear modern & fresh, but underneath that facade, the plumbing was Victorian, no hot water, loose and creaking floor-boards, wardrobe door didn't shut, bathroom door lock antiquated, and it was very hot - the fan provided sat on the floor where there were no power points to use it. In the middle of a summer with four heatwaves, there was a winter quilt on the bed !

A characterful, quirky and amazingly different venue.

Welcoming aspect of the property, superb grounds tended in a variety of different ways to give superb views. Building full of old style character and charm with sensitively applied modern touches . Delightful terrace areas and excellent staff. The score for cleanliness reflects the situation prior to the issue I raised having been swiftly and correctly dealt with. Revised score would be 4.
