Self Catering Accommodation on a Working Farm | Faeldre
Faeldre offers self catering accommodation on a working farm and only a short drive from the beach. The westernmost corner of this large and historic farmhouse has been recently renovated into a 3 bedroom holiday cottage.
The spectacular sea views from the large picture windows combined with tasteful decor, original features and luxurious modern touches creates a perfect base for your Eryri (Snowdonia) holiday.
You enter the cottage through a central porched doorway. The lounge is to the left, the kitchen-diner is to the right. In the lounge, two modern leather sofas sit facing onto a large flat screen TV on a plush new carpet. Whilst in the kitchen-diner the square dining table and chairs sit on a more traditional slate floor. Modern kitchen units house all the essential appliances. The slate flooring continues on into the ground floor bathroom. This includes a nice yet simple suit and a large walk in shower. All the slate flooring in kitchen, bathroom and hallway are heated underfloor - so rest assured you will have a warm and cosy welcome!
A second bathroom can be found on the first floor landing. Again we have a large walk in shower as well as a separate bath. Everything is beautifully tiled is soft subtle shades. 3 bedrooms upstairs. The double bedroom, like everywhere else, is beautifully decorated and has the luxury of a walk in wardrobe. The twin room is in the older part of the house and, as a result, has a lovely high ceiling and a tall grand window, helping guests enjoy that spectacular sea view. The third single bedroom is smaller and should probably be classed as a child's room although it has a full sized bed.

Overall, we enjoyed the location, the rooms were of a decent size and the storage was good. We enjoy cooking, however the cookware was sparse; needs some more. And the prep/ serving area is tiny. Personally we would like to have a hand held shower head, to complement the drench showers. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The addition of some larger mirrors would be helpfull, especially in the bedrooms and the hallway. And finally, having to share a freezer, was reminiscent of our students days! Not too good.

What makes this property unique
The cottage is at the end of a private drive leading off the Cambrian coast road half way between Harlech and Barmouth on the western edge of Eryri (Snowdonia). Llanbedr, the nearest village has a butchers and small grocery shop as well as two pubs serving food.
The larger towns of Barmouth and Harlech offer a wider selection of shops and restaurants perhaps and are 10 minutes away by car. The area's most obvious draw is the miles of beautifully clean sandy beaches nearby. Many walkers will also naturally head towards Y Wyddfa (Snowdon) during their stay, a 35 minute drive to the north. But guests should also take the opportunity to explore the rugged Rhinog mountains which are just behind the cottage.
Other activities within a short car journey include mountain biking at Coed Y Brenin, white water rafting at Tryweryn and pony trekking in Betws Y Coed. Smaller independent activity providers will also take you gorge walking, kite surfing, climbing etc. Too many to mention.
You can't drive for more than five minutes in this area without passing an ancient burial ground, castle or some sort of historic monument. And our more recent industrial past can be re-lived with trips on narrow gauge steam railways and by exploring underground slate mines.
Or, you could just sit on the patio, read a book, drink a glass of wine and watch the sun go down.
