Austin knows food. Here in East Austin, you’ll be within walking distance of some of the greatest and most interesting gastronomic experiences of your life. If it’s the renowned barbeque you’re craving, a 5-minute walk puts you at the legendary Micklethwait Craft Meats (a Michelle Obama-approved location). An additional two minutes lands you at the world-famous Franklin Barbecue, the place Anthony Bourdain declared was the finest brisket he’d ever had. If you’re in the mood for tacos, another Texan tantalizer, walk 15-minutes to Savor de Moi and be prepared to be transported to taco heaven. Texans take their tacos seriously, and any Austin local will tell you that this taco truck isn’t messing around. Other impeccable eats you can reach by foot in a few minutes include Tony’s Jamaican Food, Blue Dahlia Bistro, Hillside Farmacy, and Paperboy–an Austin breakfast must. If you’d rather pick up some groceries, Quickie Pickie has you covered. You may even stay for a craft beer or two at their bar.
Live music is synonymous with Austin. Don’t miss the legendary Stubbs, where music giants like Muddy Waters and Johnny Cash often played for their supper, located only 5 minutes away by car. Other heavyweight music venues like The White Horse or Antone's are also accessible in less than 10 minutes. Many SXSW events are held nearby and Austin City Limits (at Zilker Park) is only a 12-minute drive away.
