Wonderful place to stay for a couple days or an extended stay.

  • 5 of 5

We had the opportunity to stay a Castaway Cottage for 4 months (March-June) because of work in the area. It is a charming, comfortable, clean, well-equipped home on a quiet street. Not too far out of Lexington for quick trips for groceries (Food Lion, Lidl, Walmart)or to eat out (less than 5 mi. Cook's BBQ, 64 Diner, Mazatlan Mexican). We enjoyed fishing from the dock, kayaking down into the nature area north of the cottage or just sitting on the porch and watching all the boaters having fun.

We had not been to the Piedmont area of North Carolina before so we did some exploring too. Within an hour of the cottage we hiked in the Uwharrie National forest and explored the abandoned Russell gold mine, Visited the town of Gold Hill and learned of the history of gold in NC. Took the historic trolley tour of Salisbury (now we know about Cheerwine). Went to the Native American sites of Town Creek Indian Mound (village) and Morrow Mountain (quarry for tools/weapons). Gem hunted at Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury (great place for children). Drove north of Winston Salem to Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock State Parks for picnics. Our grandkids came for a visit and went to the zoo in Ashboro and the candy store in Lexington, both were big hits. There are all kinds of fun things to do near the cottage.

The owners of the cottage were easy to work with and kept us informed of anything that might impact our stay. They love their home and want to share it with others. We would highly recommend Castaway Cottage for a vacation on High Rock Lake.

Thanks Kathy and Michael for a great stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you John and Jody for such a lovely review and all the tips of things to do in the area some of which we have not done yet ourselves. We appreciated all the love and care you gave our home during your stay. The neighbors all very much enjoyed you as neighbors and raved about you. You are welcome to return any time. Warm regards, Kathy & Michael

Very clean and neat, newly remodeled.

  • 5 of 5

The home and property was very clean and neat, with most of the home and decking newly remodeled. Everything was in proper working order and very thoughtfully appointed for guests. The kitchen was very well stocked with equipment and cooking tools. The lake view was spectacular with brilliant sunrises and glorious glowing sunset colors on the opposite side of the lake. The patio table and chairs on the lake-level deck created a wonderful area for us as our family fished and kayaked. We were there Monday through Friday morning, and it was so peaceful and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Charming lake side cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and I truly enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. It is nestled directly on the lake with great access for whatever water activity one wishes to partake in. The house itself is very clean and well laid out.

Sitting on the deck while enjoying our meals was a definite bonus to my family. There is also ample space at the dock area for "hanging out". The lake is well kept by all who travel it and the water was very warm and inviting.

Kathy was truly wonderful to deal with during our rental. This was a very good experience for the Burton Family and we can't thank you enough.

Charming Lake Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect in every way for my stay. I am a Travel Nurse and was on a three month assignment. Everything I wanted and needed was available. The owner was so nice and helpful. She has thought of everything. The scenery is beautiful and there is a large back deck to enjoy it from. Thank you so much for the use of your great cottage.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Jane. We so enjoyed having you stay through the winter and hope more of your Traveling Nurse friends will consider renting our home for a longer time frame as you did. The home is so cozy and easy to keep up. Please let us know if you return to the area as we would love to stay in touch. Did you try the new Diner down Highway 8? Food is great and so quaint. Warm regards, Kathy
