About Joanie Paternoster

My husband Steve grew up on the farm where the cottage is located. We married in 1974

and purchased the farm from Steve's parents in 1976 where we have farmed citrus and operated a farm-management business. We raised four children who are now grown , and two of them still work with us in our farm-management business.

Joanie Paternoster purchased this house in 1976

Why Joanie Paternoster chose California

Steve's parents first lived in the cottage before they moved to the house where we now live, which is located across the driveway. We had always thought the cottage would be a great little honeymoon, or vacation cottage, so we worked on getting it ready for vacationers.

What makes this house unique

The cottage is in a rural setting, with the sounds of birds singing in the mornings, and frogs serenading at night. There is a huge swing set in the front yard which Steve built. There is also a gypsy wagon designed and built by Steve and Joanie on the cottage property, with a campfire pit, and large picnic table.

Precious find

  • 5 of 5

So glad we found this wonderful cottage! Lovely place with lovely people. Beautiful paintings inside the cottage and all the bouquet of beautiful fresh flowers placed in every room is so special. Oranges for fresh squeeze orange juice is definitely delicious! Joanie and Steve are such wonderful host. They live across the driveway from the cottage and are always willing to answer questions about the area. They make you feel so special by sharing their farm with you. We enjoyed their swimming pool after a long day hike up in the mountains where the giant sequoia trees are. At nights, the skies are filled with bright stars and so quiet and peaceful. One of the best things for us is that there is no mosquitoes around. Where we come from, we can't step outside and enjoy the outdoors without donating to the mosquitoes fund! If you enjoy plants and flowers, you must visit this farm! Joanie grows the prettiest flowers. It is so wonderful to spend time around the farm and see how oranges are grown and how wonderful to just be able to pick one off the tree!

We have traveled to many places and this is one of the best place that we get to enjoy spectacular scenes and wind down and relax. There's nothing like having a fresh pick orange and juice it for breakfast! Thank you Joanie and Steve for being such wonderful friends!! We will definitely be back to see you soon.

Owner's Response: It is a great pleasure for us have guests like Jenet , David, and family, who enjoy the farm to the fullest. It is so rewarding to have folks discovering flowers in the garden, along with the birds, butterflies, and then the stars at night. We are fortunate to get to share our life in the country with such appreciative guests, and look forward to return visits!

Great experience!

A group of friends and I rented out this house for a dove hunting trip and it was great! Joanie and Steve were very hospitable and the location was perfect. Joanie's banana nut bread is the best I've ever had! I highly recommend staying here if you're in the Central Valley.

Best getaway in our trip.

  • 5 of 5

While this house is a bit of a trek from Sequoia, we absolutely LOVED it. We have been traveling all over the US this summer and this house has been the best by far. The cottage is cozy, the surroundings are lovely, and the pool was a surprise hit with the kids. Joanie left us fresh banana bread and oranges for us to juice with a lovely welcome sign. If ever in the area, this is a wonderful spot to rest your head and take a break. Thank you Joanie, and your family!

Lovely place!

  • 5 of 5

Joanie's hospitality is superb! She welcomed us with oranges, honey and banana nut bread - nobody else has been as kind and friendly! This has been by far the most warm and welcoming home we have stayed at with nice decore. The home is old, as stated, but clean and contains everything you need to make yourself at home. Visited Sequoia National Park during our two night stay. It was about an hour and a half drive. We will definitely be back, but this time we plan on spending more days at this house! Thanks for everything Joanie!
