We have traveled the world and decided this is our favorite place to vacation with our kids. The house itself is not fancy, but is laid out to accommodate 4+ separate families and their kids, or at least 5 couples. It is well equipped for our favorite activities including cooking, paddling, and enjoying cozy time with the family. You’ll find high chairs, kid dishes, toys, floaties, pack-n-plays, games, life jackets, and other items we stock for a weekend away with our own small kids.
The hot tub is located on the front patio with a lake view!
Lake Sutherland is an ideal home base for your trip to the Olympic Peninsula. Port Angeles is less than a 20 minute drive away, with restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The northwest coast is less than an hour drive to the west, with hiking and breathtaking pacific beaches. The lake itself is clear, clean, great for swimming, boating and fishing. In the summer the water can reach 70 degrees or higher. Shadow Mountain General Store is walking distance from the house with ice, burgers, basic groceries and gas.
Your rental includes three separate buildings. It is great for family reunions because you can have a baby in almost every bedroom and they won’t wake each other up.

Property was clean, and well maintained. The view of the mountains and lake were incredible! The host was responsive, and the property was bigger than we were expecting. Definitely agree with the listing that this would be a great place for large gatherings
The host was very responsive which we so appreciated. We were staying with family coming from all over as part of our daughter’s wedding ceremony off of nearby Lake Crescent dock, and we decided we could have as easily had it off the dock here on this property. Kitchen is well stocked and house is comfortable. Fantastic location for multi-aged children - young and old. We would easily come back here.
This was a wonderful place to stay with young kids! They were always entertained by the toys, games, playground, bunkhouse—everything! We had so much fun. The hot tub was a nice treat for the adults after the kids went to bed. I recommend staying!
This is such a fantastic property! So much space between all the different buildings, best stocked rental I have ever seen, beds were really comfortable, extra stove and fridge in the laundry room, hot tub was fabulous and clean, so fun to have the game room, the dock, all the outdoor water sports equipment - I could go on and on!
We loved the property and all the space and amenities it offered. Everyone had plenty of room and activities to enjoy throughout our stay. The hot tub was perfect after a chilly day of hiking, and we really appreciated the kayaks and other water equipment available for use.
We had an amazing stay here. The house is massive, and incredibly well-equipped. The views of the lake are stunning, the listing photos don’t do it justice. If you’re debating it, definitely book this place, you won’t regret it
We greatly enjoyed our weekend at this stunningly beautiful property. Well equipped with everything we needed, spacious and comfortable sleeping and common areas, easy instructions and great communication. We look forward to staying again!
We were four couples on a trip through the Olympic National Park. We spent two glorious days at this property and had an absolutely marvelous time. The views from the house are spectacular and the house is very comfortable. So many things to do - went kayaking, played pool and just hung out in the comfort of the house. Really had a very relaxing and marvelous time - away from it all!!
We loved our stay here! This was a beautiful spot for exploring the national park. The house and property are huge and set up wonderfully for a group of families. This was the most well stocked home we’ve ever visited- anything you could ever need was there. We definetly hope to return someday!
Amazing location for exploring the park! Ran or hiked to crescent lake daily! Plenty of rooms for big group and excellent set up for cooking meals at “home”! Super responsive property managers!
This is a wonderful place - our favorite family reunion spot. It has everything: accommodates a large group, kitchen well stocked, lots of water craft, games galore, plenty of trash and recycling bins, large hot tub, and unbelievable setting. The owners give you lots of information and are thoughtful hosts.
Can't be beat!
Wow! Exceeded expectations. Perfect for our 4 families. Lots of space to come together and lots of spaces for when we needed a break. Very well stocked.
We had a spectacular time at this perfectly located property. Lake Sutherland is right there and so beautiful, but you're also close to Lake Crescent and Olympic National Park. The set-up was terrific for our 3 generations of family. Lots of space, games & activities galore, and the most well-stocked kitchen and home we've been to. Absolutely loved it!
The cost, big beautiful backyard right on the lake and all the sleeping options made this place the right choice for us! We had a very diverse group - three different families, kids from 7 - 16 and really enjoyed all the space to spread out and come together for meals and games. The house itself does need some updating but for the cost, the value could not be beat.
Our family (my husband and myself, our 3 adult children and spouses and the 4 grandchildren ALL loved everything about the venue. So much to see and do. We were able to sit and have Xmas dinner. We want to come back for the summer or next Xmas. The kids don’t want to go anywhere else. If you get a cancellation, PLEASE let us know!
Clearly this space means a great deal to the family who graciously shared it with us. The house was well appointed, welcoming, and provided an outstanding base camp to the many adventures that await in Olympic National Park. The description of the house was very accurate and the experience exceeded our expectations.
House was beautiful, loved that there was lots of activities for all ages. The only thing I saw was that the hot tub was a little dirty and the blender didn’t work. Other than that it was perfect.

Thank you for your wonderful review! I'm sorry to hear that the hot tub was not very clean during your stay. We really try to keep it sparkling. The blender has now been fixed! We hope to host you again sometime.
We chose this place for a family gathering with our kids, grands. What a gorgeous location and view! Lots of room, with three families we each basically had our own private space. Perhaps the biggest bonus was all of the toys/books for the littles (age 3&4) - they had plenty to do! And the adults had lots to choose from too - kayaks, paddle boats, air hockey, pool, hot tub, etc.
we had a couple of issues but the owners were great to communicate with and took care of the problems quickly. We would definitely stay here again.

About the host
Hosted by Kelly Kolve
The Kolves (Kelly & Eric) and Musgraves (Zach & Malen) have been friends for decades and love vacationing together. When the Musgraves' second baby turned out to be twins, and the Kolves added their first baby to the mix, we realized we need to think of vacationing a little differently. We bought this home together from family friends who had already turned it into a thriving vacation rental.
Why they chose this property
Kelly Jensen Kolve grew up in Port Angeles, and has always thought this lake has it all - views, swimming, boating, clear water, great location. With so many kids now in our families, a property with lots of private spaces and large shared areas is exactly what we were looking for. We hope you love it too!
What makes this property unique
If you have visited this lake, you’ll know that most of the shoreline is steep, where staircases lead down from cabins perched on the hillside. This house is different. The gradual lawn stretches right to the water’s edge. Also, because it is situated on the north side of the lake, it gets full sun from morning until late afternoon, and is protected from north, east, and most importantly west wind. Shadow Mountain General Store is walking distance with ice, burgers, basic groceries and gas.
