About this property
Porthcothan Mill Cottage
Your Cornish escape awaits at Porthcothan Mill Cottage, a charming retreat dating back to 1597 nestled in a tranquil valley. This beautifully restored cottage sleeps up to six guests in three well-appointed bedrooms, blending rustic charm with modern comfort - perfect for families and friends.
Inside, the semi-open-plan ground floor features a cosy sitting room with a plush sofa and a 40” TV with Now TV. On cooler evenings, the log-burning stove adds warmth, making it an inviting spot for board games or a good book.
The sitting room connects to the spacious kitchen and dining area, with a sliding barn door allowing for privacy when needed. The adjoining dining area, with its large oak table, comfortably seats eight and is perfect for family meals or entertaining guests.
Upstairs, you’ll find three bedrooms. The first bedroom is light and airy, with two windows overlooking the garden and a comfortable double bed. The second bedroom, also a double, offers lovely views of the valley, while the third bedroom is equipped with twin beds, making it perfect for both children and adults.
The cottage’s garden is a true gem, nestled in the valley and surrounded by nature. Enjoy outdoor dining on the wooden bench or unwind on the sun lounger, all while soaking in the tranquil atmosphere. After sandy beach days, a warm outdoor shower is ideal for rinsing off wetsuits, surfboards, pets, and little ones.
We welcome one dog, but if you'd like to bring more than one then please let us know as we sometimes allow two smaller ones to stay. A highchair, cot and stairgates are also available.
Explore the best of Cornwall - Porthcothan Bay awaits with its golden sands, stunning cliffs, and excellent surfing conditions just a short 5-minute walk from the cottage. This award-winning beach, patrolled by lifeguards from April to September, is a family-friendly destination perfect for building sandcastles, exploring rock pools, or simply relaxing by the sea. The beach is also dog-friendly, making it a great spot for your furry friends.

We would definitely rebook.
Mill Cottage provided a wonderful winter getaway home from home. The cottage was spacious, comfortable and warm, even with sub-zero temperatures outside Kate hosted very well, quickly responding to our queries, and has fitted everything out thoughtfully and attractively. The kitchen is well-equipped and the whole cottage was very clean. We appreciated the welcome goodies very much and the ample supplies of fuel for the wood burner. The location is excellent for exploring this beautiful stretch of coastline and beyond.

What a gem!
What a gem! The Mill is just gorgeous! The cottage is spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The garden and grounds are both beautiful and plentiful and the cottage is within a short walk from the stunning Porthcothan beach.
Kate is the most wonderful host, so responsive and left us a delicious cream tea to welcome us!
The Mill is so peaceful and very well positioned to visit many local beaches and nearby towns such as Padstow.

If you’re looking for a clean, homely and peaceful stay I would highly recommend.
Our stay at Porthcothan Mill Cottage was fantastic. 10 mins drive south of Padstow, ideally situated with easy access to Trevone, Harlyn and Treyarnon bays. The cottage itself is located just 5 mins walk from Porthcothan bay and has an amazing garden with stream that runs through. It had all the amenities we needed, a well equipped kitchen and good size bedrooms. The log burner in the sitting room was fantastic. We took our dog and after a run on the beach the outside shower and hose was perfect to ensure he was clean before entering the property. If you’re looking for a clean, homely and peaceful stay I would highly recommend.

Fully recommend and would like to come back in the summer
Great stay in a great little cottage, which was actually bigger than we expected. Kate was extremely helpful and a pleasure to deal with.
The location is great, 10min walk to the beach - although during the winter proper walking gear is advised as it’s wet and muddy.
I doubt the recent rain has helped, but the access track (lane), was very rough and rutted - not suitable for a sports car, this is probably worth a mention. Luckily we had kids and dogs onboard so were in an SUV.

Fantastic week at this peaceful cottage
We've just enjoyed a fantastic week at this peaceful cottage.
The listing is spot on when it says the kitchen is well equipped, and there are lots of books, DVDs and board games for all ages to enjoy. It's a 5 minute walk to a great beach, and easy driving distance to many more.
Bedrooms are comfortable (although this is an old rural building so you may need to evict a few 8 legged friends) and the cottage is very peaceful.
If you're coming back from the beach the washing facilities are unbeatable with an outside shower, and utility room with a washer and dryer. Really handy.
Private garden which is a sun trap too.
We had a fab meal at Duchy Grub, and rode at Reen Manor Stables - recommend both.
Thanks Kate!
