Pied-à-terre, french for "foot on the ground", is a small apartment/2nd home/getaway space in the city.
Recent renovation of an 1874 creole house in the heart of the Treme neighborhood. A less than 10 minute walk to the French Quarter (northern boundary of Rampart St), 15 minute walk to Bourbon St in one direction and Frenchman St in another. Across the street from Louis Armstrong Park and Mahaila Jackson Theater! Please read the ENTIRE listing description before booking/inquiring!
There is central AC/heat, WIFI and basic cable TV. The kitchen is fully stocked with oven/stove, refrigerator, dishes & silverware, pots & pans, cooking utensils and a few spices . Sorry, no dishwasher!
The whole 2nd floor is yours! There is a keyless/coded door, so you don't have to worry about losing a key during your adventures around New Orleans! The door is coded and I change the code after every guest leaves. Free, on-street parking is plentiful. The space is not handicapped accessible and may not be a good fit for those with mobility issues or young children/babies. There is a full flight of steps you will need to climb and that cannot be blocked off from very young children. I know that my space says "family friendly" and it is (there's a recreation/community center with a play ground right across the street!), I'm just concerned about the stairs. So, if you have kids that can handle stairs well, please bring them! I'm sorry, but the backyard is not available for guest use.
I live downstairs with my 3 dogs. I can be as involved as you want or give you as much privacy as you need.
Just finished an almost complete renovation in October of 2017! Please note that this house was built over 140 years ago and has gone through some changes- you're going to notice a few "quirks", like some rooms have a slight slope (the foundation and structure is secure- sure spent enough to get it done right!), light switches in odd locations and there is no living room/common space (this was the 2nd floor of a whole house at one point).
The property is located right behind Louis Armstrong Park and Mahalia Jackson Theate, with easy access to I10. The airport is about a 30 minute drive away, depending on traffic. Esplanade Ave is 3 blocks in one direction and its a lovely, less than 10 min walk to the northern edge of the French Quarter (15 min to Bourbon St or Frenchman St, where the best local music can be heard). There are buses that run along both Esplanade and Claiborne St. The brand spankin' new North Rampart/St. Claude streetcar line is just a 5 minutes walk away! Street parking is available, at some times of the day or during big festival weekends, parking can be a little difficult. I suggest that once you find a good parking spot, keep it! Walking around is the best way to see New Orleans after all. I would err on the side of caution at nighttime, especially if you've had a couple of drinks on Bourbon St and either drive (with a designated driver!) or take a cab/Uber.

Property is beautifully renovated and has all amenities needed.
The property is located within walking distance of almost everything we did. The owner is easy to reach and we loved our stay!
Very nice place, good location, great owner.
Overall we were quite satisfied with our stay. The unit is very comfortable and easily fit the five of us. The owner is very kind and attentive. We had a minor issue with the bathroom that was responded to immediately. Logistically, Bourbon St. is only a 10-15 minute walk away and Ubers were easy to get to go further in to town. There are a few coffee/breakfast spots near by that we enjoyed.
I recommend staying here.
Best Damn Race New Orleans
Nice and comfortable.everything we needed.
Walked around the block to our destination,
The race, started at Louis Armstrong Park.
Perfect place for a taste of the Quarter without the noise
We absolutely loved our stay here. It is a short uber/lyft ride to the quarter, but also walkable. Very comfy beds and beautiful decor. Lots of sunlight filters through all of the windows. We felt like we were home the entire time we were here. The bathroom is amazing with a very spacious shower and lots of storage in there. Great place to stay, we would definitely come back.
Thank you for your kind words! You are welcome back anytime!
Property is beautiful, but I wouldn't book again
We stayed for my sister's wedding weekend and the property is really nice, the rooms are large, and it was within close proximity to our events. However, we did experience issues on the last day of our stay regarding use of the bathroom. Shortly after the first person started showering that morning, we got a call from the host saying she needed to come up immediately and check the shower because it was leaking into her bathroom downstairs. We were told we couldn't shower and we couldn't leave our dogs there (kenneled) while we went to shower at our mom's hotel room. I received an email a week or so later saying that she had filed a claim with our traveler's insurance suggesting we were somehow to blame for the plumbing issues, which was not the case. So while the place was lovely, our experience was not.
Yes, I did file an insurance claim for this visit. During Kris's stay, someone flushed feminine products down the toilet, causing a blockage. This is a rule that I have posted online, that is noted in a binder located in the apartment and have a sign in the bathroom itself. The plumbers found the blockage approximately 8-10 ft into the line, which means that it was coming from the 2nd floor and was their fault. Its all noted in the plumbers report submitted to the insurance company (that Kris agreed to and paid for!). I asked them to stop showering and not use the shower until I got a plumber there as I had water pouring into my bathroom, which is exactly what you do in a plumbing situation as this! Whoever was in the shower, finished a full 5 minutes later. Kris neglected to note that this all happened 1 HOUR before they were supposed to check out. The request to leave the dogs was made AFTER the check out time and they were almost an hour late checking out, even as I had plumbers on the way! Kris liked everything else about my place but only left this review after I had filed a claim for the damages they caused.
Excellent place to stay, walkable to the best parts of the city. Beautiful home.
I stayed in Heather's place for a weekend and it was fantastic. Would absolutely recommend this spot and if I come back would love to stay here again.
Thank you for staying at my place, you're welcome back any time!
5 minute walk to the northern boundary (Rampart St) of the French Quarter!
