The Boyd family migrated from Scotland to Ireland in 1745 after losing their royal lands fighting on the wrong side in the Jacobite uprising. By the late 1700's, the Boyd family had migrated to America just in time to fight for the colony's independence. In the early 1820's they settled Haywood County on the 100 acre plus farm land where the family still resides today- 200 years later.
This is a real working farm surrounded by farmland, wildlife, cattle, horses and even the elk from Cataloochee Valley hang out from time to time .
The house belonged to Lt. Colonel Katie Boyd (deceased) who traveled the world during her army military career collecting antiques and other pieces of one of a kind furniture. The logs in the interior of the house are more than 200 years old. She had the logs moved to the home site in the 1980's and built the first part of the house. It was updated in the early 1990's and then again in 2017.
If you want to experience the appalachian history, culture in a farm setting with modern conveniences then this is it.
This is the place for families and close friends to come enjoy their time together surrounded by our family and on our farm. This is not a party house, and remember, it is an old farm house so it does have some quirks, but totally original. We are looking for people who want a slower pace to life but close to all the amenities with year round access. The property is minutes from Maggie Valley, Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains Park, Cataloochee Ski Slope and Waynesville. Asheville is a 30 minute drive and all interstate.
This updated farm house has all modern conveniences including wi-fi, televisions in every room, Direct TV package with 130 stations, a sound system that looks old but plays everything from USB digital, to cassette tapes.
Relax on the 120 foot wrap around porch or play many of the games we have provided for family entertainment and in the evening sit by the fire at the newly built fire pit. (Fire wood can be purchased from John Caldwell at Caldwell Excavating on U.S. route 276, and he will deliver. Also can purchase at convenience stores located on 276.) We do recommend getting some fire starter logs at Lowe's or Home Depot before coming).
This is modern convenience meets family tradition and history just not available in any other setting. We welcome you to a be a part of our family and share in our 200 year old legacy. Feel free to hike or walk the fields and gravel roads around the house and when you pass one of us, throw up a hand and say hello.
House has two Queen Beds, a double and two single beds. So can sleep 8 easily and 10 with the pull out couch. Feel free to set up a tent in the big beautiful yard for the kids- totally secluded and safe environment. There are two convenience stores within a half mile. A Dollar General store is less than 10 minutes on 276 south. An Ingles grocery store is located in Waynesville 15 minutes away. We have two refrigerators for plenty of food storage.
There are stairs with two bedrooms upstairs and master on main.

About Kirk Adcock
This house was built by Lt. Colonel Katie A Boyd. She was a pioneer of women in the military. A hard core, swearing lady with brass balls, who didn't take crap off of anyone- especially rude, insulting, chauvinist men. She also had a heart of gold and changed a many a yound soldier's life by insiting that they become educated and constantly strive to improve themselves. She was respected, loved, adored, and passed away far to soon. She served in Okinawa during the Vietnam War and was one of the first female faces some of those young, wounded troops saw when evacuated out of country. As her nephew and niece, we were damn lucky and proud we knew her.
Why Kirk Adcock chose Jonathan Creek
One of a kind Farmhouse with interior logs being 250 years old.

What a unique place to stay! A perfect way to experience Western NC.
Our family had a great stay. The house is so clean and well-appointed - it makes for a totally hassle-free stay. And yet it has rustic charm. (Perfect for city-dwellers! All rustic charm...no rustic problems!) Our boys loved exploring the property. And they learned to ski at nearby Cataloochee. A very special trip! Thanks Kirk and family.
Yes, we are located close to all that western North Carolina has to offer including Asheville, Cataloochee Ski Slope and Catalochee Valley featuring the Elk Head. We so aprecaite Marion and her family staying at our family farm. They were the perfect guests and according to our house keeper left the property as if they had never been there- thank you.
We highly recommend that anyone rent to Marion and her family and lease come again.
This farmhouse is legit
What a very special place this is. We were here while it was only 12 degrees outside and I was afraid it would be chilly inside but it was not. It was warm and happy in this house full of everything we needed and then some. The jetted bathtub in the master was used every night. It was definitely a mixture of old world farmhouse with modern conveniences. Kirk is very responsive and I would love to bring my family back to this place in the summer. Never got to see the elk but it was a beautiful way to celebrate New Years. Thank you!
Thank You Chantel for coming to our farm house
We very much enjoyed having you
And please do come again
Im trying to figure out how I can keep the elk around more
Very nice, a good mixture of the old with the new!
We loved our stay! The bathrooms are nice and updated. Very disappointed we didn't see elk on the front lawn (lol). The living room is comfy, but with 9 people, seating was a little limited but we weren't always in there at the same time. The view of the sunrise was beautiful!
Thank you Laura for coming to our farm. I'm sorry you didn't get to see the elk either. Last year they were camped out in the front lawn this time of year. Maybe next time. We are going to update some seating-especially the kitchen table chairs.
Best Wishes in 2018
