Carl and Leslie Haggar have lived in East Glacier for over thirty years, and hope for another thirty. They love hiking in Glacier Park in the summer and skiing the nearby mountain trails in the winter. Carl is also an avid fisherman and hunter, and loves to share his stories about recreating in this beautiful country. They built a successful woodworking business, manufacturing wooden kitchen products, such as bread knives, cutting boards, and recipe boxes. They have since sold the business, but Carl continues to put his woodworking skills to work by creating cabinets and furniture for their vacation rental. They love to share their favorite haunts with their visitors, and are very knowledgeable about trails, streams, and lakes in the Glacier Park area.
The Owner purchased this condo in 2007
The property is located in a beautiful rural setting, with a lovely little trail that goes to an active beaver pond, home to a variety of ducks and geese. There is world-class fishing nearby on the Reservation lakes, as well as in Glacier Park. In the winter, there are numerous trails for both cross country skiing as well as snowmobiling. The rental is very cozy and well stocked and provides a perfect ending to an adventure-filled day.
The adjectives to describe Lone Elk Lodge are; comfortable and homey and
peaceful after our long walks through ruggedly beautiful country. We started
and ended each day very much at ease - and we did see a lone elk across the
meadow. We enjoyed all our adventures - the variety of life zones along the
Firebrand Pass trail was incredible - Aspen, Pine, flower-filled meadows, lush
vegetation and low plant life high up among the rocks - the alpine lakes and
magnificent vistas we encountered on other other adventures - the goats,
sheep, marmots, ground squirrels we met up close. Then our return to the
comforts of our accomodations - a fine retreat and respite.
Lone Elk Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. It is beautifully furnished, and equipped with anything you might need. Leslie was also very hospitable, and gave us tips on great hikes in GP, places to eat., etc. We loved our stay at Lone Elk Lodge and hope to come back again soon!
We checked out of the Two Medicine studio this morning and are already planning a return trip. Glacier NP is famous for its stunning alpine scenery, and these accommodations are worthy of the setting. Lone Elk Lodge is beautifully situated in a meadow with mountain views; our studio had a little deck facing toward the mountains and away from the road, with no highway noise. The building itself is immaculate: well designed and furnished, impeccably maintained (we didn't see a cobweb or a speck of dirt), and thoughtfully appointed. Two Medicine studio is quite roomy and had everything we needed, including a well-stocked full kitchen, a comfy bed (with great nightstands and reading lights--important to me!) and a little electric fireplace. As hosts, Leslie and Carl struck just the right balance. Attentive but not intrusive, they offered tips on hikes and restaurants and even left a plate of homemade scones to welcome us. Lone Elk Lodge was the perfect home base for an exceptional adventure.
What a beautiful suite, just what the doctor ordered. My wife and I were very comfortable in this roomy suite. It has everything travelers could need. Including quality furnishings and décor. The view from the deck is gorgeous. We liked the close proximity to East Glacier and the east side of the park. Leslie told us of a hard freeze that they had just the week before our visit. Leaves were changing colors right before our eyes. The mountain sides were so colorful. Waterton is well worth the drive.
We thought that this would make a great location to travel with the family. There are four units in all that vary in size.
Thank you Leslie and Carl!!

My family of 7 stayed at the Lone Elk Lodge for three nights and our visit was exceptional! We rented two units. The Sinopah was perfect for our more elderly family members. They enjoyed having their own bedroom and bathroom, the large well equipped kitchen, dining and family room, and everything being on one level. The Two Medicine Suite was perfect for my husband and me. Everything was clean, tidy and top notch. Our hosts, Carl and Leslie, were welcoming and delightful. The property is conveniently located near East Glacier Park Village, and is 1 hour from the Glacier Park entrance near St. Mary. We hope to come back. Highly recommended for a family trip, family reunion, or a romantic get away.
Absolutely perfect place to stay while exploring nearby Glacier National Park. We chose Sinopah for our stay. It was very roomy and had such a warm, comfortable, inviting atmosphere. It is well equipped and beautifully furnished. This one will not disappoint. Super nice people that own it.
We enjoyed our stay at Lone Elk Lodge during our visit to Glacier National Park. Beautiful location with comfortable bedrooms and living space. Leslie and Carl are wonderful hosts!
