Town: This small market town in Shropshire has a welcoming and quaint feel about it, nestled just north of the Shropshire Hills AONB, near borders of Wales and England, it is the perfect base for touring a wonderful region of Britain. This town is the administrative centre for the northern area committee of Shropshire council and occupies a town hall, train station, real ale pubs, cosy cafes and welcoming restaurants, as well as a few specialty shops bursting with delights. Surrounded by bountiful countryside, this is the ideal place to visit if you enjoy walking, with many trails and routes taking you among picturesque scenery. Visit the Tudor town of Shrewsbury nearby, with its historic castle, stunning abbey and fascinating museum and art gallery at your fingertips. Interestingly this town was the birthplace of Charles Darwin, and his statue can be seen outside the public library. Just outside the town is the National Trust's Attingham Park, a splendid hall and deer park with a beautiful walled garden waiting to be discovered. Another wonderful attraction worth a visit if you enjoy local history is Wroxeter Roman City; its fascinating ruins and new Roman Town House were featured on Channel 4’s ‘Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day’ and stand to impress its many visitors. There are pretty gardens in abundance throughout Shropshire, along with walking, fishing and outdoor pursuits. Hawkstone Historic Park & Follies is a unique place, offering visitor’s hours of delight and excitement with stunning vistas of the Shropshire countryside and beyond. For those looking to relax while they are away, nearby Oswestry boasts Lion Quays Hotel and Spa, a tranquil oasis of luxury and leisure with a superb dining experience, rejuvenating spa and beautiful rolling countryside enveloping the spectacular grounds. This delightful holiday destination offers an all-round wondrous experience to everyone.
