About Jennifer Wales
Adam and Jen have a deep love and understanding of the natural beauty surrounding the Acadia/Mount Desert Island area. Jen grew up summers on Long Pond and Adam on a 110-acre farm in Western Maine adjoining the Appalachian Trail. They met here in Bar Harbor working as sea kayak guides in the summer of 1993. Over the years, they have hiked, biked, paddled, and sailed every conceivable route on and around Mount Desert. Adam completed his goal of hiking every trail on the Island in the summer of 1994 and Jen authored The Sea Kayaker's Guide to Mount Desert Island published by Down East Books in 1997. Together they paddled the Maine Island Trail, a 175-mile 28-day kayaking trip from Portland to Machias, up the entire Maine coastline. In the summer of 2000, Jen and Adam started Mountain Sea Properties with a single house, Eagle Cliff, where they were married that same summer. The owner had approached them expressing her frustration renting the home through larger rental operations on the island. She complained that her house was one of hundreds represented so the service she received was minimal. She also stated that those who rented the house were not as well informed as they could be. The tenants were also one of hundreds and the service they received was minimal. Adam and Jen offered to represent the house committing to providing top quality service to both owners and tenants by representing a limited number of houses and providing personalized vacation services. Since then, Mountain Sea Properties has grown along with the Wales family. As year-round members of the Island’s community, Adam and Jen are dedicated to the vitality of the people of Mount Desert Island. Thus, each year they donate a portion of their proceeds to local organizations devoted to sustaining the beauty and well-being of the Mount Desert Island area.

Great Stay in Bar Harbor
Great little house in a perfect location for exploring Bar Harbor and Mt Desert Island. We had a fabulous week!
Quiet escape just outside of the village
We had an amazing time at the guest house and would most certainly return if we ever venture back to bar harbor. We loved being able to cook meals on nights we just wanted to stay in and being so close to town and compass cove, which was our daughters favorite. Such a wonderful home and just the right size for the three of us! Thank you jen!
Bar harbor cottage
Our family enjoyed staying the week at this little cottage. It was clean, private, and had everything we needed. The location is very close to downtown bar harbor and is on walking distance to a cool trail to a rocky beach. Look forward to visiting in the future.
We Loved this Place
The “Guest House” was ideal for a week’s stay near Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Surrounded by woods, it’s cool, quiet, and feels secluded, but it’s also conveniently located. A short drive brings you into the center of Bar Harbor or links you to the Park Loop Road, which winds through the National Park.
Yes! That's just the beauty of this charming cottage- it's quite and private and yet so very close to everything!
Our family really enjoyed the Guest House. The location was the best part. Beautiful walk to the coast with our 2 year old and six month old. We hiked in Acadia each day we were there and the drive to the trailhead was very short. I would recommend this for anyone used to having a quite space in the woods. Very peaceful!
The location of the Guest House really is fantastic. It's tucked into a quite patch of woods on an ocean front estate, just one mile from Bar Harbor and you can walk right into Acadia National Park and access several trails as well as Compass Cove with it's wonderful sand beach and historic ruins of George Dorr's (founding father of Acadia) massive home, Old Farm.
Home away from Home
This is our 36th year visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor, our 7th in the Guest House. We keep returning to the Guest House because this place seems more than a rental: it is our home away from home.
The location is the key, along with how clean and well-appointed the Guest House is. Its close proximity to Acadia gave us many more hours of hiking and exploring. Having everything there that you need to prepare meals make cooking as easy as being home. There is plenty of space to enjoy a quiet evening "home".
Jen has all the information you need to give you the best vacation experience. She can answer any question. The Guest House is bucolic and picture perfect; you have the feeling you are deep in the woods with the quiet and privacy, yet you are minutes from town for shopping or a great meal, as well as minutes from the park.
This is the most comfortable and conveniently located place we have stayed at in all of our years of visiting Acadia. It has really made our vacations ideal. Every year we find it better and better and we are so glad we found it.
It's reviews like this and working with this family year after year that makes the past 20 years of renting houses so worth it. We have many families that stay with us again and again, either here at the Guest House or at another one of our rental houses, who have become part of our Mountain Sea Properties family.
Can't wait to see them again next year and enjoy our cup of tea together!
The location of this house is perfect. At the end of a small private road through Acadia National Park, the Guest House is only one mile from Bar Harbor where you can access a free shuttle bus that travels around greater Mount Desert Island and through Acadia National Park. The main auto entrance to Acadia National Park is only 2 miles away where you can drive or bike the famous Park Loop Rd and all its attractions.
The Park’s newest trail, built in 2008, allows one to literally walk from the house into the 130-mile network of hiking trails, bike to the 45 miles of Carriage Roads, or simply stroll into town for an ice cream cone. Compass Cove, a little known parcel of Acadia National Park, is just a 5 min walk where there is a secluded and well-protected sand beach and tide pools. This area is a wonderful place to explore with kids or have a quiet sun-drenched beach all to your self.
This cottage is ideal for couples, a small family or a romantic honeymoon retreat.
Other Activities: Next to ocean beach and hiking trails within Acadia National Park. We know from our own experience managing family vacations that it can be quite a job. A little local knowledge and some extra help can make your vacation more enjoyable and hassle free. We offer a number of vacation planning services to our tenants including local information and recommendations, catering, massage therapy and house keeping.
Golf: Famous Kebo Valley Golf Club is just 2 miles away. There is also the Northeast Harbor as well as the Bar Harbor Golf clubs located near by.
