Other Details to Note

Location

The Old Station sits on the peaceful edge of Stow-cum-Quy village, surrounded by open Cambridgeshire countryside while remaining just 6 miles (around 15-20 minutes by car or 3 miles- 7 minutes to the Park & Ride) from the historic heart of Cambridge.

From the doorstep, countryside walks lead across the Quy Estate and along river paths to Anglesey Abbey (National Trust), Cutty Fen and further afield. It's an ideal base for walking and cycling through some of Cambridgeshire's lovely landscapes.

If you are a visitor to Addenbrookes, one of the many research and university institutions, the Cambridge biomedical campus or the Science Park but you want to be a bit more rural, The Old Station is perfect for you.

The nearest supermarkets are 15–20 minutes by car and provide delivery services if needed. We recommend bringing essentials with you, particularly if arriving late. Cambridge Just Eat takeaway type franchises also deliver to the property.

Wood-burning Stove

For visits during colder times, the living space features a cozy wood-burning stove. If you would like a starter pack of wood for your arrival, or enough for the whole stay, please let us know in advance, and we will be happy to arrange it for you.

Wifi

Due to our countryside location, broadband at The Old Station is provided via an FTTC connection rather than city centre ultra fast fibre. Most guests find it perfectly suitable for streaming, browsing and day to day use, although speeds can occasionally be slower if multiple devices are heavily streaming at the same time - all part of escaping the pace of everyday life for a while.

Pets

Pets are welcome by prior arrangement. The garden and former platform terrace are private for guests to enjoy, although the outdoor space is not fully enclosed. The property is set in a peaceful rural location away from main roads, but guests with dogs that are prone to wandering may wish to supervise them outdoors.

House Rules

The Old Station is a peaceful retreat and we ask that guests respect the property and neighbours. Parties and events are not permitted.

We want every guest to have a wonderful stay, please just reach out if you need anything.

Host profile image
We are local hosts with a background in architecture and a strong interest in restoring and maintaining character properties.

The Old Station has been carefully refurbished to high sustainable standards while preserving its Victorian heritage.

We believe in warm, thoughtfully designed spaces where guests can truly relax, and great care has been taken to ensure the house combines comfort, quality and character.

Having previously worked with professional management, we now host the property directly to offer a more attentive and personal experience.

We look forward to welcoming guests and hope they enjoy the unique character of The Old Station and the calm, comfortable atmosphere created through its careful restoration.

Our aim is for guests to feel relaxed and at home from the moment they arrive, whether gathering with family, celebrating a special occasion, or exploring Cambridge and the surrounding countryside.

Why they chose this property

We were drawn to this area for its unique combination of rural tranquillity and proximity to the vibrant city of Cambridge.

The surrounding countryside offers lovely walks and historic landscapes, including nearby Anglesey Abbey and the Quy Estate, as well as welcoming village pubs.

Cambridge itself, with its historic colleges, museums and punting along the River Cam, is just a short drive away and offers wonderful opportunities to explore its culture, history and restaurants.

The beautiful city of Ely is also only a 30-minute drive away, perfect for a riverside walk or a visit to the iconic Ely Cathedral, often known as the “Ship of the Fens”.

What makes this property unique

The Old Station offers a rare opportunity to stay in a beautifully restored Victorian railway station dating from 1884. Once part of the historic Quy Estate, the building has been carefully refurbished to high sustainable standards while preserving its character and original features.

The interiors have been thoughtfully designed to create warm, comfortable spaces where families and friends can relax together, combining historic architecture with modern comfort.

One of the property’s distinctive features is the former railway platform, which now forms a generous private terrace running the length of the building. It provides a unique outdoor space for morning coffee, relaxed meals or evenings spent enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
