As former teachers we know how great it is to find the right place to get away and relax. We have rented our Lake Michigan home for the past few years with many of our families returning every year. There aren't many homes like this for rent.
We bought in this area because it was right on Lake Michigan and just 25 easy access steps to the beach. The swimming is fantastic and you can walk the sandy beach for miles. It is easy to get to, from Chicago it is only 4 hours and Grand Rapids is just little over an hour.
It is so private and quite. You can relax with out having other cottages right out your window. The deck has plenty of space and the cottage has an open floor plan to accomadate everyone inside too. It is updated and very clean.
Great Place for a family vacation, we had our daughters their husbands, and grand kids everybody enjoyed themselves, Rodeo, Silverlake sand dunes, fishing and long days at the beach. The walk to the lighthouse is about 45 minutes beautiful relaxing walk went twice. The Lake House was clean and had everything we needed to cook and grill out. Pentwater is a nice town to visit and do some shopping about a half hour away, some nice restaurants where you can set outside and enjoy the day. The house was great, the kitchen was perfect the private beach was the best , quite and relaxing, have to say one of our best family vacations ever. Dont forget to stop at the Cherry Point and the Fox Farms winery, had a great time would go back in a minute. Pure Michigan at its best !!!!
For several years, Far Far View has been the destination summer vacation for my son and I. We drive 9 hours from Iowa to join our family from Iowa, Nebraska and Michigan. It has become the one time of the year that we get together and offers us the perfect place to have our annual reunion. We begin to relax and unwind the minute we pull in the driveway and open the car door. The sounds of the surf and sight of the quaint yet modern cottage welcome us.
The cottage is immaculate and improvements are made every year. It's always fun to see what the artistic homeowners have done in the past year. The new wrap around deck is a wonderful addition to the property and new stairs to the beach have been added. Sunsets from any spot on the deck, sun porch or beach are spectacular. Those spectacular sunsets live in my memory all winter long and remind me a warm beach will be ahead next year.
The property has it's own private beach yet is a one mile walk on the beach to the public beach and light house. The beach is perfect for quiet walks, reading a book and having a campfire. The water is shallow for some distance allowing for safe swimming and water play. There is a croft (a combination of golf and crochet) course available, Silver Lake and the sand dunes nearby and many local seasonal fruit stands/markets to explore. The Brown Bear in Shelby or Pentwater offer a 1# hamburger challenge that teen-age boys find hard to resist.
This past year, wireless internet has been added which helps to stay in touch without having to leave the cottage. Cellular connection is not available so close to the lake which is not all bad while on vacation.
The owners keep the cottage in excellent condition. They are very easy to communicate with and very helpful with any questions or concerns.
I would highly recommend this cottage. Anyone lucky enough to spend a week there won't regret it. I am looking forward to my next dose of Lake Michigan therapy next summer!
Far Far View is often my escape to paradise and it never fails. The cottage is always neat and clean. Often there is a new addition or remodel or some small delightful change. The kitchen is perfectly stocked for preparing meals which you can enjoy while listening and relaxing to the glorious sound of Lake Michigan in all it's beauty. There is a TV available, but I prefer reading books or watching the sunset, and there is always a sunset. There is no cell phone service, but I consider that a plus. The beach sand is soft and fine and is great for walking, running, playing or sunbathing. The water is chilly but always feels wonderful during the heat of summer. You can't go wrong by picking this cottage.
We love our weeks stay at Far Far View cottage, it has been an annual vacation for three years straight for sisters/husbands (8 people - all ages 60+). The cottage has a great western view of Lake Michigan, sunsets are spectacular on beach, from deck and sunroom. Initially we were drawn by the photos and description of the property in the posting but actually they don't do this cottage justice. Each year the owner has made improvements that keep us coming back. The most recent addition was an expansive composite deck on the lake front side, just beautiful! We've found the home clean and all in working order. Email communication with the owner is concise and timely. Internet/cell phone connection is non-existant at this location, which could be a positive thing for some vacationers. For families with children the nearby town of Silver Lake offers dune rides, go carts and other fun vacation amenities for entertainment. The beach and swimming seem to be safe for little ones...shallow for a long distance out. Sable Point lighthouse is an hour walk on the beach. Us older generation folk love this quiet section of beach, the fire pit down by the water, and the kayaks. Highly recommend 'The Brown Bear' in Shelby for a great meal.
We vacationed at Far-Far View with our 3 grown children and their spouses (25-30 years old), first time in Michigan. The house and property were immaculate. The website pictures are nice but you really can't capture the true beauty of the view and sunsets. The sun porch was perfect for morning coffee, reading, card games. The kitchen had everything we needed to fix all our meals, plenty of outdoor and indoor seating for all. The little farm markets were fun for filling in with fresh breads, aspargus, pies etc for meals. The kids enjoyed going out in the canoe and kayak and playing beach games. We enjoyed daily walks on the beach and touring the Little Sable Lighthouse. The boys fished on a charter boat one day, caught their limit in King Salmon! Some ventured out several times for golf. Several only ventured out when we rented Jeeps to tour Silver Lake Dunes. It was a delightful week for all, something for everyone. The owner was very good about answering all questions promptly. Would really like to return again some day.
My wife and I were at Far-Far-View for the last week of June, 2012. We WILL come back here. The owner keeps you informed and answers any and all questions promptly. The cottage was immaculately clean when we arrived. The pictures on the website gave us a good feel for what to expect. We wanted some seclusion, but we also wanted to be able to keep up with events. Direct TV allowed that. We wanted to have a few nice meals out, do some shopping while we enjoyed all that a beach vacation at Lake Michigan has to offer. We were able to do that here. We like to cook at home. We had everything we needed (including a garlic press for crying out loud!). We like to walk. 25 steps gets you to the dune. 50 steps puts you on the broad, sandy beach where you can walk for miles in either direction, north or south. We like to read and at Far-Far-View you can relax like no where else I know and enjoy a good book. We like to play golf. Benona Shores is 10 minutes away, very reasonable, well maintained and a little gem of a course. For dining and shopping we'd recommend Pentwater, about 30 minutes away, a quaint little village with shops to intrigue even the most eclectic of tastes and waterside restaurants where the food is delicious and you can dine inside or out. We ended each of our days by sitting in Far-Far-View's sunroom and watching the sun set. There are no words to describe nature's brilliant sunsets at Lake Michigan and there is no better place to observe them than here.
Double J water fun park near by, Our Association membership allows you to play Croft (cross between golf and croquet), basketball horseshoes and tennis.
