Bell Cottage, a period cottage between the North Yorkshire Moors & Dales
Bell Cottage was a weaver’s cottage where workers from the Brompton flax mills lived. This terraced house is 18th century with a 19th-century addition, and restored to a high standard. Brompton is a historic village, close to North Yorkshire's main town, Northallerton. It was an important centre for linen making with eight mills at its peak in 1820. Our cottage is a part of that history. Brompton offers excellent access to both the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales.

We have owned Bell Cottage since 1995. Originally, we lived in the South East of England and escaped to Bell Cottage most weekends. In 2017, we decided to move permanently here to the glorious county of North Yorkshire, and we lived here at Bell Cottage for three years with our daughter and three Labrador dogs (yes, three!). The cottage has had a complete and thorough renovation.
この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由
Visiting North Yorkshire is like going back in time. There are strong traditions here and a deep sense of pride in the county. The towns and villages are absolute gems with market days and local specialities (pies, ice cream, cheeses, craft beers) Most of all, and a big reason we moved here, is the incredible countryside, from the imposing North York Moors, to the charming Dales, to the picturesque costal towns and villages of Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough. There is always something to see.

Bell Cottage was a weaver’s cottage -- a modest home where workers from the Brompton flax mills lived. This terraced house is a mix of 18th and 19th-century properties. The older, larger part of the house comprises, today, the living room and kitchen downstairs, and the master bedroom plus bathroom upstairs. The Victorian addition added a second small living area (the "Snug"), staircase and second bedroom. You'll actually step down into the Victorian part, downstairs, because is was built on a slightly different level (!). Bell cottage still has it's original leaded windows, exposed wooden beams, a Victorian checkerboard floor in the Snug and wide Georgian floorboards in the bedrooms. You also need to mind your head when moving from the living room to the kitchen as folk were a lot shorter back then and the doorway proves it!
