Acerca de su propietario/a
Propietario/a: Hugh
We're a family of five - a British husband, American wife and three young children, with a large extended family on both sides of the Atlantic. We love spending time outdoors, whether hiking, swimming, exploring or just playing badminton and croquet in the garden. We enjoy hosting and entertaining, but of course many of the best days are spent in one room as a family reading books and working through board games!
Por qué escogió este alojamiento
We travel a lot to rural areas professionally, and we think the Yorkshire Dales - and Dentdale in particular - have some of the most beautiful countryside on Earth. We first discovered the area on weekend trips during university studies, and for us it represents the perfect combination of a true rural escape away from the crowds, and convenience for activities, things to see and amenities. The Dales' caves and waterfalls are a particular highlight, but our single favourite thing to do is walk through Whernside Manor's private woods, climb the stile onto the Dales Way and make the short hike up to Whernside Tarns to paddle in the immaculate, cold water and enjoy the spectacular views of clouds, sun and rain rolling down the dale.
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
At Whernside Manor we wanted to capture the lessons of countless nights spent in rented hotels, houses and huts of all kinds to create a place where the things that matter most are executed to perfection. In a remote place like Dentdale, that means starting with the basics - heating you don't have to think about, unlimited hot water, no damp or draughts, internet that means you can work and live as easily as if you were in a city. From there we moved to bathrooms - as little sharing as possible, generous in size, individually designed. Beds large, comfortable, with crisp linens. A kitchen equipped to handle whatever you or a private chef can dream up. Rooms interesting enough that everyone runs through the house, excited to discover the next one. Grandeur that makes your time at Whernside feel special, but not so precious that you can't sprawl on every chair. And knowing first hand how hard it can be to travel with small children, we wanted to handle those worries. Multiple full-size cots, toys, children's books, bath mats, bath seats, bath toys, formula jugs and more are stored in the house and can brought out on request. In short, all the things we have spent years cramming into the boot of a car or stuffing in a footwell. Over the past four years Whernside Manor has been renovated into our ideal of an uncompromising country house, and we hope you will agree!
